I can't believe they made Oceans of Blood real
Wait they did?
I thought the same when I first saw it 😂😂😂😂
😭😭😭😭😭
It seems weaker, especially considering that the ash of war looks pretty bland compared to Rivers of Blood.
@Magnosummit bro you can spam with WITH HYPER ARMOR ON TRADE, NO MATTER WHAT.
The fact that my actual DREAM weapon type got added is beyond me. I popped the absolute hell off when I first found it.
Same here lol
This is how i feel about the ancient meteoric ore greatsword.
Not a new moveset but all my favourite GS moves in one (maybe except the old overhead swing R1).
Good lights, stab R2, stab rolling attack and stab AOW with a magic follow up...literally so peak.
Oh also it looks fucking amazing ... Don't really like the look of most base game UGS's
I know how you feel. I flipped out and did a little dance when I found the madness torch.
Monster Hunter waits you
We went from the dragonscale katana to the dragon hunters great katana
Exactly this. Had to switch to the great katana from morgott’s greatsword once I realized.
dragon hunters greatsword will have a 4 hit move combo that’s extremely slow but can do boss ending damage
The name of the Rakshasa’s Great Katana is interesting. Rakshasas in Hindu mythology are shapeshifting man-eaters with a whole host of magical powers
judging by its unique effects and the armor its paired with, it seems to be playing off the "demon with endless hunger and bloodlust" angle, because the armor and unique skill boost your damage but makes you take more in exchange, along with both weapon and armor being covered in blood
I think there is a berserk character with a similar name
@@charlesbronson8112 That might be where whichever FromSoft designer who made the DLC Rakshasa first heard the term, given how huge an influence Berserk has been on these games
yes, Rakshas basically means demon or something similar in hindi
@@charlesbronson8112yeah Raksas fits that description
I like how most of gk moveset is just monster hunter longsword.
I wish gk had a parry or ash of war which is a long sword powered jumping slash
Yeah lol
@@dabmich5 thats gonna be both op and sick
@@dabmich5 the new flask tear enhances guarding, meaning the l1 bumper guard while two handing a weapon can parry.
is actually called odachi irl
"Situational pve weapon". I am convinced that every boss is a dragon because the Dragon-Hunter's GK slaps all of them so hard.
Laughs in Black Steel Greathammer
my quality build makes insane use of it, slapped on shard of alex and godfrey icon and it melts anything. on the backburner I use giant hunt great katana and lions claw milady.
How good is it for placidusax?
honestly base great katana is so good with savage lion claw shit carried me through the dlc lmao
Did you ever feel the need to do dual great katanas? I did dual katanas in base game but not sure how it’ll feel with the great katanas.
@@Nikorasu737I tried it (just to see what power standing looked like)
Personally it would probably only work with RGK and Bleed or Bleed GK and even then… as slow as it is. It might only work in PVE, PvP probably takes a lot of skill to make viable at the current speed (unless there’s an immense amount of stagger from each hit)
I’m gonna go grab this make the build and runnit in PvP and let you know
@@duskcrimsonfang4177 thank you! Looking forward to what you find, defintely trying to switch up my weapon for the DLC. Appreciate it!
@@Nikorasu737 I can never bring myself to powerstance great weapons in Elden ring, they really messed up the idle animation. You're just holding the weapon in your left hand, like it has no weight, parallel to the ground. Looks so cartoonish. DS2 had fantastic powerstance idle animations, wonder why they didn't just copy those.
The base great katana is amazing
one thing of note that I found out, the backstep heavy counts as a backstep meaning you can follow it up with a thrusting light attack right out of the heavy animation. It feels super fluid and I found can work great as an opener since people don't expect the follow up
Please explain that in controls. I don't get it
@@manuelquerochang2275 to perform the backstep heavy, while holding the heavy attack button, press the dodge button. then after you perform the backstep heavy, press the light attack button.
You don’t have to do anything else you just need to get the right timing. I usually start the light just as the backstep heavy attack animation is finishing up.
@@manuelquerochang2275 heavy attack + backstep, then light attack forward straight after
@@enso-himself OMG!! Lets try that.
THX man
Can't wait for the "testing all dlc weapons for your delight" videos
Dragon Hunter is actually amazing for dragons. I’ve easily killed every ghost flame dragon by locking onto its head and spamming with charged ash with Godfrey and Alexander talismans, and it hits everything hard honestly, at range and with decent hyper armor. I’ve yet to be knocked out of the animation. I love it.
wizardly warning if you see a small glintstone staff in someone's build, It Can Cast ANY Spell
wdym?
@@catman1800including incantations?
@@catman1800 there is a glintstone staff that can cast incantations as well as sorceries
It's called STAFF OF THE GREAT BEYOND.
10:00 The debuff (-10% defense i think) only work when you are attacking. Same apply with the buff part.
good to know
if the debuff is -10% defense, will it just not apply if I have zero armor?
@@screamthesecond3946 applies equally leaving you in negative defense stat.
Hope you’ve been having fun thanks as always for the content looking forward to seeing all the new weapons showcased on this channel
I've been waiting for you to start making vids of new weapons and finally, let's go! ;D
Such fun having more of these videos form you.
dual wielding the infusable one and the rakshasa, with the latter on the right hand. also the weed cutter is super susceptible to jump attacks if you can stagger them after
I wondered if you were gonna make vids on the dlc and I am delighted
thanks for showing the illusory wall on he way to getting rakshasa's blade. I did not notice that when going through that area
I LOVE how many of the new weapon types have a heavy feint, it was a cool thing that was only on (Heavy) thrusting swords and curved swords, so seeing Great Katanas, Perfume Bottles and Beast Claws get them was sick. Honestly surprised Light Greatsword doesn't considering how slick the rest of its moveset is lol.
these have so far been my favorite of the new weapon classes, especially the Dragon-Hunter
Thank you for doing this. I love this channel
I really missed these videos, well done Monk
Thanks for posting dude
Monk are you gonna do new versions of the older every weapon videos? Btw I literally freaked when I heard that the first knight Greatsword is a strength weapon but has the godslayer Greatsword moveset.
I will definitely revisit some categories as a whole, or only talk about the new additions if there’s a lot of them
@@monkwasherepog
@@monkwashereI will be watching them then👍
Nice vid. Very similar to curved great swords (why I like them).
Testing the Dryleaf Arts and Dane’s Footwork would be cool. Sadly they’re the only two hand-to-hand arts in the game, but their movesets are flashy and the weapon arts are cool.
I love that the overhead stance is basically ichimonji from sekiro
fr
Thank you so much for this❤
The great katanas are my favorite weapons ever. All of them are unique. Dragon hunter katana is my favorite cuz of the flair. The moveset is a bit slow but i love them so much.
my dream weapon class. always wanted this in souls games
the great katana moveset looks almost identical to the monster hunter longsword moveset (excluding the spirit combo i guess)
They had to copy from a REAL game (just kidding love both)
Definitely between Light Greatswords and Great Katanas as being my favorite new weapon type. The Dragon Man’s has basically carried me through the DLC with its weapon art.
I love how you showcase the weapons with actual pvp to test out its merits
I was lowkey hoping for more than just 3 weapons. At least 4 of each for the new ones
honestly my favorite thing in the DLC is putting wild strikes on a fully upgraded great katana. It is so addicting.
the backhand blade's movesets are pretty insane. being able to throw the blade whenever you want is crazy
I hope you do the light greatswords next. Their my absolute favorite weapon other than the dry leaf arts. It just flows so nicely
Dragonhunter and Rakshasa powerstanced feels so amazing in pvp and pve
Current build rn but for messmer fight the dragon hunter skill is slow and doesn’t bleed thinking of switching to rakasha and regular gk for more bleed?
Martial arts ir the throwing weapons would be interesting but light greatswords are my favorite after they showed them they seem to have such amazing potencial
Completely agree that blood tax + great katana is a fantastic combo. I had it on an occult build, and used it for all the tough fights, it was a life saver. Also, that crouch poke + poking R1 is godly.
100%

im pretty sure you can feint the raksasha heavies too which is really funny considering theyre thrusts and you can just mix it up with a slash
Finally my Genichiro cosplay will be complete
You are seriously underselling the dragon hunter’s great katana in my opinion. The skill is very good and the longer you charge it the more range it has. With the right build and enough scadutree fragments you can kinda just keep using the skill over and over without having to get too close to whatever you are fighting and it does pretty good damage. It’s definitely not only usable against dragons. I would not call it situational at all.
The more I’ve been using it the more I really like it
@@monkwashere It also does a fair amount of damage, which is nice.
I just destroyed Bayle with it
The moment i grabbed the Great Katana i instantly fell in love, i always wanted a samurai themed weapon that can do decent flinch and break armor and back then my only real alternative was the Naginata which is kinda sluggish, so realising that the Great Katana fills in a gap in my loadout is perfect for giant opponents or mobs with high poise that can't be flinched with regular swords
The red katana is very tricky, because of how slow it is, I noticed alot of your enemies bated into attacking you, they thought it was over, but u can still go on.
I did NOT know this thing had a heavy feint, incredible
Also fun fact, the final attack of the light attack string has a hitbox on the backswing, and it does full stagger and damage
Dude can't decide between light greatswords or heavy katanas. Both look so cool man.
Can the Rakshasa still do the back-step Heavy cancel like the other Great Katanas can?
An interesting thing is that the great katana's moveset is pretty similar to the longsword from Monster Hunter. If you pick up a video of the base moveset of the longsword in the most recente MH game you might see the similarities.
for rakshasa to make the fight easier, you can spam messmers orb if you have it, he cant dodge it easily and I just damage buffed so much it dealt 6.5k damage per orb
Talisman were fire scorpion, ritual sword, the thingy that makes you deal more damage with high equip load and beloved stardust, used the Golden order seal in left (my cast hand) and had the flame knight talisman in my right hand.
buffs were flame shrouding, regen, golden vow and howl of shabriri
You can also just parry the ash or space yourself just outside of the range. The npc will only ever use the ash 3 times in a row, so you can punish them with your own ash or golden parry every time they try to use it
inordinately sized W
also are we getting testing vids for the new weapons of existing classes?
absolutely
how many characters do you play on? or do you just play on one and change the stats when you wanan try out other builds
Ive been really digging the smithscript weapons
i think we would love to see all of the legendary weapons ranked/showcased
I kinda like the road as your new test area.
Dragon Great Katana is my favorite to use weapon in the DLC. Ignoring just the dragon boost, having the charging AoW means its boosted by both Alexander Shard and Godfrey Icon, and you can hit with both blade and beam. Ive udmsed it on half the bosses in the dlc, the other half by the Dragon Halberd, my favorite weapon of base game (good moveset and ice lightning is just great lol)
Fr you need to see the new greatswords, specifically the greatsword of damnation, but tbh I dunno if they warrant a video in of themselves... So maybe have like, daggers, swords, greatswords, and colossal swords all in one, then one for axes, greataxes, hammers, great hammers, etc down the line.
would love to see a video on all the new fist weapons.
The first one has Ichimonji ash of war from Sekiro
Do the perfume showcase next! They have an equippable ash of war that changes damage type depending on the perfume used
That first duel you had, when the opponent had a katana how was he lightning dashing? i thought that was the dual axe you get from the death night? what ash is that person using if anyone could tell me
Id like to see the smithscript weapons, ive been testing them out and they are fun in PvE, especially the shield. Im not a PVP person so im curious on how good they are in PVP
Sad we didn't get a smithscript great katana in the shape of a boomerang
You’re fr underrated bro
I have a good combo for you. You should also use the white mask that you get that boosts blood in imagine how much damage you’ll do
5:44 YOOO it's John Journey himself! The protagonist of hit game Northern Journey! And I don't think this build is about viability, it's about sending a message and looking cool while doing it.
Dragonhunter GK being a "Situatonal PvE weapon" is underselling the weapon a bit lol. That Katana has carried me through the entire DLC because Dragonwound Slash working double time as a ranged or enhanced melee option is crazy good against every enemy in the game, not just Dragons.
been struggling with the ancient dragon Senesax so maybe I’ll give the dragon-hunter’s a go
I'm not sure if it works with ancient dragons. I was fighting Senesax today and the damage was nothing impressive (1.9k with 9 scadulevels)
finnaly i can make my great shinobi Owl cosplay with this one
Are you going to make DLC Boss builds, like in the good old days?
12:00 that scream LMAO
Dragon katana has 2 hits, the initial swing and the charge release can both hit. pair it with 2 handed talisman and godfrey icon for insane damage
I really like the Great Katanas, until now I was powerstancing Katanas, are Great ones better in powerstance or two-hand compared to basic ones?
The power stance is kinda ass, takes ages to swing them, and there's even a talisman to boost 2handed things, so def 2 hand them
Looking forward to the Perfume weapon class.
Im so glad they brought back the martial arts weapon from DS 2
thick nodachis go hard
Blood great katana is great but I always favor Cold infused weapons with bleed. While it’s less bleed proc per hit your cold proc is basically every 2 hit which is a guaranteed stagger.
rakshasa great katanas passive also has a second bit, as each successive attack reduces enemy defense.
the one thing i really wanted to see when i got great katana is sheathe on it, unfortunately, we cannot. As well as overhead stance on katanas
Perfume bottles are so much fun I can’t believe they are actually good and useable
You didn't waste any time hahaha love it
yeah thanks for showing us how to actually get to the cave
I wanna see the perfumes or hand to hands next please
Since I'm only really using the perfumes and don't care for the other new weapons, I'll be watching all these
Pls do a video on the perfumes i’ve been absolutely melting the dlc with them the rolling sparks ash of war is so op it’s disgusting I’m getting upwards of 8000 damage with minimal buffs it’s crazy
Occult affinity on Great Katana breaks 107 bleed build up too. Serious question though, why bleed over occult? For more physical with dex?
The dragon katana has a ranged attack stronger than moon veil when you activate ability hold light attack at same time
I never thought to ude blood tax on the great katana, been useing double slash, and it just does so much damage lol
dragon great katana has been my go to for the whole dlc I love the ash of war
ITS THE MONSTER HUNTER LONGSWORD MOVESET
Really wishing there were more than three weapons in each new class (outside perfume bottles) but what we got is pretty solid all around!
Still running my trusty rivers and moonveil combo for the dlc
The delight has been buried deep within
10:26 ah like the good old days in ds3, the 7th r1 is a mixup
You actually get no hyper armor on any of the great katans normal moveset outside of rakshasas Katana, it specifically says it has hyper armor so it kind of implies normal great katana does not have hyper armor.
You didn't mention the charged dragon hunter is a projectile. that's the strongest part!
8:00 psst, gofrey icon, shard of alexander, str/dex build, that number can get muuuuuch higher ;)
honestly im disappointed its not arcane scaling tho so its not very good with dragon communion builds
They probably should add a ping/delay thing on the hud in pvp, that would be greatly useful
I LOVE this new katana!
They really made ichimonji: triple.
Genius Michaelzaki.
