I have been happy with my scotty #388 with scotty extended headgear and Scotty 0343-BK Locking Gunnel Track Mount. I use the same track mount for my scotty downrigger .
My fishing buddy and I both use Stealth Rod Holders in our kayaks. After looking at all the different ones I could find, the Stealth Rod Holder was the only one that was absolutely secure while trolling or still fishing, but the security system lets go as soon as you pull up on the rod, which is what you would normally do to set the hook, anyway. To get any long handled rods out of the way while we paddle or pedal, we got the extensions, too. 2 sets (rod holders and extensions) was about $78, and shipping was free when we got them. They use a Scotty mount, as well.
Great video, with the Ram mounts it is easy to keep balls in several locations and move your holders around to fit the situation. I really like the YakAttack Omega Pro for flexibility and adjustability.
I have the small ram mount. Use it for trolling in kayak but I do need to have some of my poles set almost parallel to the water for them to fit. I am thinking of getting and omega pro yak attack.
I have been trying out the scotty r5 rod holder . After testing it for about a year , I think it the best on the market for me . They are a bit of a cost , but well worth it if a sturgeon couldn’t pull my pole out .
Hey, long time listener, 1st time caller...love the show. In regards to the shortest holder in this review, my favorite use for the Ram 2007 thus far is one on each side behind me. If I were to troll, I can easily grab the reel and the rod comes out cleaner than the other brand/styles I've tried. Also the 2007, along with the Omega Pro are my go-tos for when I don't want to carry rods in my crate/straight up in the air. If you're going to be paddling under low bridges or under low hanging branches, I like the high/low/level approach.
@@KayakhacksFishing My McGuyver gene is kicking in...A 2007 holder fits an Omega Pro...like OJ's glove, LOL! It needs a little help by adding a Scotty washer...(using Scotty slip-discs #415 may make better). I like being able to store my rods upright in my crate, but need enough side/level storage in case I need to quickly make changes on the fly. IE: I always have open holders in my crate...I usually have open holders along my sides..also keep room for 1 to 2 rods between my feet. Wish I could figure out how to post pics from phone to HERE...also use Scotty slip-discs for my Yak-Gear outriggers.
Haha..my goto rods for leaving in the upright crate position are Ugly-Stiks...just wrap the hooks with lure wraps and let'm TAE IN THE WAY CHICKABEE! Sorry, old movie reference (Jody Foster, Nell)
A lot of great info.........But presented as a random stream of thought! Had to watch it several times to get the facts to compare the different holders.
I had to watch it twice because I couldn't take my eyes off the cat, I kept waiting to see if it was going to leap off the top of the pile of yaks. I like the concept of the triple threat, but you're right....I'd want the ability to be able to easily move it in the moment. Good stuff, though, I'm going to be upgrading this spring I think, and this helps with accessory selection.
I'm a fan of the Railblaza stuff for it's interchangeable versatilty, and being well-made. I have a Scotty flush-mount base with rod holder on my jon boat. It's durable, but a pain (imo) to adjust to different directions (rotate). I have 4 Railblaza Starports mounted on my kayak, with two fwd, two aft, and can move/swap a rod holder or camera boom quickly to either port or stbd sides. I only use one rod holder which is the Railblaza "R", which comes withe Starport HD base, all for $19.99 +tax. It works well for the low-key fishing that I do. I added the short swivel base that goes between the base and the rod holder, and it's easily rotated, and stays in that position due to the factory-set friction. Other rods are stored in the YakGear 3-rod vertical holder mounted on the crate. www.academy.com/shop/pdp/railblaza-rod-holder-r www.austinkayak.com/products/15366/Railblaza-Swivelport.html
After 20 years using the all-metal Down Easter rod holders on my old sit-in yak, I'm not very happy with any of the plastic kayak-specific holders I've seen. In the spring, I'm going to try using a combination of Yak Attack bolts and regular hardware-store parts to mount a new Down Easter on my new boat's Gear Trac. Wish me luck.
Am having trouble with my ram tubes staying stationary on the ball mount. Any body else have an answer to this problem? I fish floridas west coast and these things simply won't hold a good size fish (3+ ft). Maybe I expect to much? Thanks
I do not have a perspective on that since I take my rod out of the tube when I get a fish. On those rare, wonderful times when I have a double, the RAM seems to hold OK, but those fish are all less than 27" long

I agree. I recently added a utility track across the far back so I could put the 2007 on it.

Never cared for Ram Ball mounts... Use em for DOD equipment but I prefer YakAttack myself.
Great video as usual.

Sorry about that. We should have done better

@@philod902 I missed the cat??
You should look into the Stealth Quick Release rod holders. I ordered two over the holidays and can't wait to try them out.
Will do. Thx
That cat really wanted to play with that rod!
Never new there where that many rod holders great video 👍 thanks
Another great video - do the holders ever pop out of the rail systems if they're overloaded?
I have caught fish up to 39 inches without a problem. However, I grab the rod when I have a hit...so the holder is not stretched much

Greg - thanks for pointing out that additional option. We did not have one available when we did this video.,

Nice Video.
Why didn't you cover Yak Attack Holders?
I'm guessing the store is not a Yak Attack dealer.
Or Railblaza..
They were not available in the shop

Thanks for good advised video!
what kayak is that you're standing next to
It is a Jackson Coosa HD at the start of the video

What are your thoughts about the “rocket launcher” style tube rod holders?
I don’t like them. Personal preference. I think they are just too large
Love the kitty cat
6 holders and none were the Omega! This dealer should contact YakAttack.
I’ll tell him!
Typical. ...the dog gets all the credit while the cat is "clearly" running the show. LOL!
Great content but video would have been much better closer up so we could see each product
Noted!
Another option for mounting things to your kayak is “well nuts”.
Yes, I have a video that discusses that as well. ruclips.net/video/gSk0CdfHxbw/видео.html
Use one omaga yak attack one
thanks, I'll look at it.
@@KayakhacksFishing the only yak that it wont fit is feel free uses thier own goofy rails . Everyone else Vide,Howbee, etc all use standard rails .
well at least Scotty is made in Canada not china
