If he plays right at tuning , they will be loud and barely move. You are correct on the xmax tho. More throw is usually better but this foamboard design can get down if everything jives. A frien had a Ford Maverick with 2 15"JBL GT Series on a 500watt Rockwood and it got busy.

Infinite Baffle/Free Air has been around a long long time. It's been around since the mid 80's when I first got into car audio. Tons of old cutlasses & Monte carlos with either 4 10's or 2 12" Kicker freeairs running off old school punch amps.
Yep i had 3 12s freeair way back n like 99/2000 in my 92 Camaro so u know those teunks just had a spot at the very back that just went down and about the size of a regular box but just had my freeair box piece that went rite over that back and bokted down but them kickers pounded the fk outta that car..

@nate0 yes cuz lanzsr used to be real shit..i had a lanzar 1000 watt monoblock amp and it pounded every set of subs i put it too without ever shutting off on me or fkn hittin the safety..nope it played all day long while in my car as a teenager goin everywhere as we all do at that age and outta every amp ive ever had thats been 1000 watts forsure its the shit..but wondered where the brand went because it used to be just killer ass power and 1000 watts meant 1000 watts not 650 ..id love to have another one of those amps but i stupidly traded it for a qp of weed like the 17 year old dumb ass kid i was but i did go strait to jl audio since then and thats all out top notch

Bass is the easiest less stress. You can throw any subs in for bass. Subs would be the best thing to go cheap on. Cant say that for any other parts of a system.

With these amps, a couple of quality SQ subs would make this sound much much better even with a lot of bass.

Back in early 90’s my sister BF’s cousin had an old school camero,(I think), he had 4 Orion (I think) 12’s in a free air set up and that thing shock ur whole body when u was standing by it. That thing got down!!!
Yeah my buddy had 2 12 inch pioneer free airs in 1994. Had them in a Camaro . Just used a board over the space near the back. I couldn't understand how it worked so well

Great subs for the $$ I've used the DCT 12 not the free air version.. Installed two in ported box per manufacturer recommend on roughly 600wrms each, sounded surprisingly good. Great budget subs.. great video man.

I had a 93 integra sedan with 2 Rockford 12's in 94. Carpeted MDF across the back, with the seats down it looked clean af. Not the best for SPL but hey that was the 90's. Also leaves you a trunk...very important when you had to convince a single mom that this is what her new car needed lol

I have thought about doing it this way in the 2005 Scion xB i had. My prefab box had to be stood up because you only have like a foot anf a half of trunk depth. Worked out damn well for what it was, though.
I had 2 clear Pyramid 12s in the rear 6x9 holes on a 75 Chevy Nova Custom. That setup was very loud and clear for the "250"watt roadmaster 15 band eq booster. Bass hit low enough it would shake the crap out of my steering wheel. This was in 1992. I had the 12s looking like 6x9s. Ill upload my garage system so yall can check it out.
I did the same with 2 10’s in my Camry. First ever audio project. Made me fall in love with the hobby. Now I’m too many dollars deep😂

These lanzar subs in my opinion are the best on the market for the money. They make high quality bass . If you get lucky enough to find a pair of the 18s get them !
Bro is on his way to a helluva setup. Definitely definitely definitely changes those subs. I recommend Skar SDR 15s atleast because IMO they sound so good and can play DEEP (I have a SVR10) and very durable no matter how much flexing you do to them
That setup was more or less experimental in that car. normally I had two PG ti2 12's in it. I was debating chopping the trunk for true IB but ultimately decided against it as It wasn't fitting my requirements at that time
Just installed 2 15inch skar sdr's ib for a customer, got a lil preview of em on my channel. Got em on a rockville db14 and painted it up to match

I just bought 2 of these Lanzar 18 Infinite Baffle/Free Air subs, never been used from a buddy who was hard up for some cash. Figured I was buying paper weights as charity. This video helped at least show they don't have to sit in the garage for a few years. Ill figure out something to do with them I guess.
Just run alot of sound deadener. The 15's played down into the high teens without much issue. I'm curious to the 18's

An old school Rockford Punch 150a2 on two 10” JL Audio W0’s in a sealed box will get you 140 db...stock battery, stock alternator.
those old school.. i heard 4 15s of these a long time ago in a blow through, in a chevy single cab truck... bumping mr boombastic.. very fantastic... and that shit bumped... young people dont think old school audio was any good... older people know they are wrong...

You still can purchase these speakers on Amazon and ebay all day. They definitely not the old school sub you think they are. Lanzar was bought out like every other company and turned to crap

Nice SQ setup. Really like the compact RF amps. It is sad to see so many people in the comments who just don't get it or think everyone should keep doing the same setup over and over. It isn't always about getting loud.
I ended up pulling the whole setup not too long after that. Installed a ti2 12 ran that for a while on the same amps. After a couplle months on that I went fully active with a mosconi 6to8 and switched things up to a jl basswedge downfiring with a b2 1200.6 and hertz 1k. Sounded decent once I rta'd it and got the time correction right.
Now I'm building a passat with vxi amps audible physics ram 2.6's on the front stage, jl w7 and c2s for rear fill. Still trying to figure out what I'm wanting to run for a source unit though.
I have 2 $50 skar ix12s in a 97civic Dx running like this had it sealed was metering 129 .put in a 6 in port db jumped up to 134.9 at 30hz

It's so funny reading some of these comments talking shit on the Lanzar subs. These are actually quite good in an IB setup, def no need to knock them. If you are wanting a SQ system, IB is a definite option.
@nate0 Definitely, teenagers back in the 90's got into Lanzar when they could find it stolen lol. Some of the most expensive and best equipment back in the day.
I say I want SQ because I hate grating hissing highs and honky screechy quacky mids, and I also don't want any sounds to be missing AND I want to be able to listing to just about everything equally with very little if any EQ change.
But, like... I also want a 5 gum commercial in my car for that Bass Nation/Trap/Cloud Rap stuff, sooo..... What do I do, man? What style of sub (high excursion vs low, big motor vs small) do I get, and what kind of box could I build?
And what do I do with mids? 3 way front stage? Pseudo 3 way using a midbass and a 3.5 coaxial? Do a small midbass and a wideband? And if I go 3 way or pseudo, what sizes should I go with for max midbass and max volume on vocals? I really don't want more than 1 speaker (per stereo side) for each frequency range.
Also, how should I amp everything? I recently watched a video where this dude used only single channel amps (full range) to power his mids. So his 4 door speakers in one door (looked like 2 8's and 2 6.5's) were all on one mono amp on a shitload of power (way more than RMS, but his gains were bottomed out) and he said it got incredibly loud, all day, sounded amazing, and didn't blow or get hot.
Another mono amp controlled his 4 giant bullet tweeters per side. And then he had another one for his kicks, and then some big amps for his huge sub system. I know this is definitely an SPL style system, but is such a strategy viable for SQL, too, especially if I want both SQ AND SP?

Hey.. I know sound systems evolved since the infinite baffle.. We see subs like Fi and Sundown with all that foam around them sucking and pushing air around producing mini hurricane winds LOL.. I remember my brother had an infinite baffle set-up in the early 90's, and he had our front door shaking like that door from the poltergeist movie LOL... Free air subs are NO joke when installed correctly.
They were installed correctly. 1.5" baffle, they played very low. Wasn't an output monster by any standard, sounded okay for not having a good dsp. Would've sounded better if i installed my mosconi 6to8 with this setup, but it was only an experiment to see how IB faired in that small car.

You’re young… free air speakers/systems have been around since the mid to late 80s… in 1986-87 a friend of mine had four kicker free air 12 inch mounted against the back seat of a Monte Carlo with an epicenter, and you could hear the infrasonics from blocks away
nice use of free airs, i had some old school fosgate stillwater designs off of ebay and they got stolen, so now i had to replace them with these… glad they’re gonna work out aright (btw who steals free air subs)

I ended up going with a single ti2 12 from phoenix gold and i gained 5 db on the same amps. then went to a basswedge on a 1k and broke 40's hile staying as an SQ setup.
I thought of doing this instead I crammed in 4 12s into the trunk of a integra now I need to remove everything and sound dampen the rattle box o a car
Everything except those subwoofers are great, especially the wiring and electrical...
just because they arent highpower handling loud subs doesnt mean they arent good. the Distinct series of subs are actually good for the price. they have nice 8's that can be bought for less than 60 a pair.

To make an infinite baffle sound really good you have to take out all the rear panels and seal up every opening you can then re-install the panels. Sealing up around the baffle board itself is just the beginning. In the past we used fiberglass resin and mat on most of the openings. It makes a huge difference in the sound quality and overall output.

Depending on the size of that trunk this may not be considered "Infinite Baffle". Infinite baffle is typically when your box size is at least 10 times the suggested cubic volume of a sealed box. Considering the trunk looks small and its 2 subs and there is stuff in the trunk making the space even smaller and its sealed up when trunk is closed , it may just be giving the effects of 2 subs in a large box. Either way its a good way to save some trunk space the setup.

I'm really confused by this build.. I see he invested a ton of $$ on mids, highs, battery and alt! But I'm confused about the choice of box and subs? Unless he dosen't care about bass that much? Idk? Never would I install Lanzar subs especially not "free air" aka "infinite baffle" or whatever.. if he invested in some cheap 12" $60 Walmart Kicker Comp subs and a 300 watt amp it would sound 1000% better.. not "competition" but a huge improvement..

Infinite baffle type built subs are made with extra stiff suspension to accommodate for the absence of a sealed or property tuned and loaded box

i have seen folks running IB with pile blue waves getting 135's @ 35 hz before easy on low power.

For 750 watts on a RF amp, he should be pushing a 135 all day

Chris Gamble I don’t think a digital sound processor and an epicenter do the same thing.
@@jamesbondcaraudio4247 essentially epicenters are bass enhancers paired with a line driver. when I did my tuning with my dsr1 I tuned it to be equally flat with my mids and highs with a 24db slope at 30 db. I wanted complete meshing of the sound and i wanted it to have as little difference between my midbass and sub bass. in other words i wanted my bass to sound seamless and not able to pinpoint the 6.5s down in my doors vs the subs. my mids are crossed in at 62 with a 6 db slope. I'm actually under powering my front stage so I dont run into issues with over excursion. if I added a line driver or epicenter to my subs the boost in output would be noticeable and not as blended as I'd like.
st the moment I'm designing a setup for smaller subs so I can widen my frequency range so my front stage will be able to go back to 70hz+

That's not infinite baffle tho. He's using the trunk as the box, so it's just a big sealed box. Infinite baffle would be open air, to the outside. Usually this is done by cutting a hole in the floor and sealing it with a water tight baffle. Let's air in, but stops water.

Yo all this and that for 132db!? Yo, I got a used ass hdx3 15 on a Wolfram 2400 and I hit 144.8 all day long without even breaking a sweat. Spent less than 350 on the whole setup minus the 250amp alt I already had. I don't understand this dude.
the setup was geared more towards low bass (sub 30) and SQ. the recording doesn't quite do it justice. That setup was doing 143+ with my ti2 12's on yhe t750. Being said I was experimenting with IB in that car at the time and ultimately decided to go a different route

Something that always blows by me that I do not understand is, aren't stereo systems for music? Then take music and slow it down to make it sound like shit so your speakers sound better? How about build a system that makes music sound better in it's own octive. Smh
