You guys seem like such a great family to get cockatiel birds. I have always owned these lovely creatures and I care so much for them; I mean for mine and in general. I can see that you guys as parents have taught your children to be loving and caring for the birdies. I feel so bad when parents think they get birds (or turtles, or any other small animal) for their children as toys. They are living beings. So happy to see how prepared you have been having beautiful cages and toys for them and have investigated what they should eat!!! Thank you for this. These little fellas have won the Lotto with you guys. 😊❤👍👍👍
Omg!! I've literally NEVER seen a first day with birds go as smoothly as that! Congrats. I have some tips about the diet and cage for your cockatiels. The size of your cage is amazing!! But I recommend changing those dowell perches (the long smooth wood ones) to natural wood perches instead so their feet can get exercise and to also avoid bumblefoot. Another perch that can be problematic are those curly rope ones, but only if your birds chew on it. The cotton fibers in the rope can get stuck in their crop since they can't digest it and they'll have to get surgery to get it out, but if your birds don't chew on them its not a problem. I also suggest changing the plastic bowls in their cage to steel ones for easier cleaning and sanitation. And for diet try to keep millet only to training (but using millet like you guys did in the video is perfectly fine too since you just brought them home! They need to associate you guys with good things). Millet is like candy for them and is unhealthy in large doses. Also instead of feeding them cereal and seeds, feed them chop (diced up veggies and grains of your choice) and some natural pellets to fill in the gaps of some missing nutrients. If you find that they love the cereal and seeds a lot also use that for training, as those are suuper unhealthy in large doses like the millet. Find out what your bird likes to eat the most and use that as the "jackpot" during training, like if they take a big step or finally do something you've been trying to teach them for a while, or to get them to do something they're really hesitant about (but don't force your birds into anything! Just use the Jackpot as a strong encouragement, not a bribe).
Also! Target training! It just means to teach your bird to touch the end of a stick. It may seem unnecessary but it makes handling and training your bird SO much easier (i noticed they both like to shoulder rush, and that makes it harder to control them sometimes, like when you were trying to put them in the cage). And its an easy thing to learn. Try using a clicker or a word to show that they completed their task or did what they're supposed to do. Like when your bird does a spin you click the clicker or just say "good" or whatever your word of choice is (keep in mind that you shouldn't change your word as to not confuse your birds, using words instead of a clicker is usually used if your bird is afraid of the clicker or its sound, or if you just don't have a clicker nor want to get one)
Yikes this was gonna be a shorter comment lol. Anyways, congrats on getting your cockatiels (they're a personal favorite of mine) ! They're adorableee! I can tell they're gonna be super happy, socialized birds! Good luck :> if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.
Thank you so much for all the great info! Luckily my birds don’t chew on the ropes, but I’ll definitely keep an eye on that. I think I will indeed start feeding them chop instead of seeds. I did some research after reading your comment & I wasn’t aware they could eat rice & a variety of other stuff. Thanks!
@@JustJinx youre welcome! I’m happy to help! I couldn’t help myself when I saw what a sweet family you guys are, and how adorable those cockatiels are! I know they’re gonna live a happy life :>. Have a nice day!
Congratulations guys! Mikey and Kiwi are adorable birds. I have some tips, though.. first is to remove the dowel perches (the smooth ones) as they can cause problems. I recommend natural wood perches, that have a lot of texture. Also, sticks you find outside are fine as well. This is just one tip, so more research would be good so you can learn about your buddies and how to improve their lives!
Those cockatiels are so precious
You guys are so lucky to have cockatiels that love you
Welcome to your new home, Mikey & Kiwi!!! They're so adorable!
Thanks! 😄
Oh my gosh! Mikey and Kiwi are sooo cute!!!
I definitely agree. 🥰 We love them so much!
My pied and Lutino are identical to yours 😁,adorable godbless.
OMG!! I GOT THESAME EXACT TYPE OF COCKATIEL WHEN I FIRST BROUGHT THEM!!! Sad news tho: my grey cockatiel died:( But we go a new cockatiel and she laid eggs!!!
Have a good day:)
How utterly adorable!!! I can't wait to get my baby! He will be about 8 weeks old...probably like where yours are! So Cute!!!
That is so great! They are so sweet with the kids.
They are! 😊
Those birds are gonna have a really loving home!!! I can tell you guys are amazing, But please let them know not to pet their wings tails or back, because they can get hormonal and aggressive! :)
This was absolutely awesome to see! :¬)
That's a bit creepy.. but these days you know haha..
In car journeys my bird's insisted they were uncovered so they could see where they were going, especially Wally. XxX
Yep they are males and y’all are going to have so much fun - what beautiful babies👏👏🥰😉
Congratulations - they’re beautiful! 😍
Congratulations! What pretty birds! I love how they hopped on you all right away. The kids are really going to have fun with their new pets, hopefully Kira will be ok with them too!
Thanks! They’re sweet birds & they seem to enjoy attention. ☺️ Keira has looked at them with curiosity, but hasn’t shown any sort of aggression towards them. We’re not taking any chances, though. We keep them in separate rooms when the birds are out.
OMGGG!!!!! These babies are so ADORABLE!! I wish I could have cockatiels like them!! 🥰
😍😍😍
Awesome cage!🦜🦜🦜
Hello Mikey & Kiwi ! ! So cute !! I loved how the birds didn't want to go back inside ! Just want to be with the fam !
I know, so cute! 😂 We thought they might want to rest & explore their new cage after the long stressful drive, but they just wanted to be held (which we didn’t mind one bit ☺️).
So jealous. We also had a hard time finding a Cockatiel as well, and found a Craigslist listing for hand raised Cockatiel. Went to pick one up, got it home, and bird was definitely not hand raised. It took months and many bloody fingers, and now he loves his head scratches.
Oh! i saw the other cockatiel with like grey color feathered that is preening itself while sitting on hand and that it is comfortable enough and isn't afraid or hesitant. That's a good thing!! ✨
Wow
I have two males arriving on Sunday. I hope my hand raised boys are as friendly and calm as yours are.
Hi !!! They really looked adorable…. I wonder how are they after 2 years. Many poops on the shoulders I bet and maybe your sons freckles went missing 😂😂😂 love the family video… so adorable . Thanks for sharing.
I like how you got them a nice large cage
Ohhh they look so happy with you! What a good home! I helped raise them and love to see this. Lol they would live outside the cage if you let them!
Aww, you did a great job! We’re so happy to have them. They’re the sweetest birds ever. 😊
So friendly
The breeder I found dna tests them so you know which is amazing !
Omg 🤣 so 😍 😊 😚
ADORABLE!!!!!!!! I own 2 of them! Daisy (not at all tame, lutino and pearl mix with orange cheeks) and Jacob (mostly tame, idk what breed, gray body, yellow head, orange cheeks, and white on feathers)
Y'all have the merriest christmas..
Bro Itssoo cute my first cockatiel is an albino cockatiel and my first day was quite similar
Im so glad you are happy with the birds! My grandma defantly picked a good home for charcoal and the yellow one! You might wanna watch out tho cuz the yellow boi has a habit of trying to climb onto your face haha
Haha! I'll keep that in mind. 🙃
Congrats guys!
Having a pet bird is actually really nice so I’m pretty sure you guys will enjoy having them.
I also think kiwi is a female and Mikey is a male because kiwi has muck lighter cheeks than Mikey. That usually means it’s a female. You guys can also know by checking kiwi’s tail over time. If it has designs on it and it’s not plain that means it’s a female. If it’s playing that means it’s a male.
Bye! Love u guys❤️
Mmmm but its very difficult taking care of a bird. Do not impulse buy without experience, and definitely do not neglect research. You can harm your bird in many ways without realising. I’ll make it simple: *act like your getting a child* .
@@Dragonhex yeah, its difficult. You probably don’t know what your doing.
Love love love the birds . Watching Raya hold them was awesome
She was thrilled. When we went to Turtle Bay last year, she was too afraid to let the birds land on her & she has regretted it since the moment we left. Lol. This made up for it.
Они такие ручные! Их хорошо воспитали!
I know this was posting awhile ago but he was trying to get the freckle because they think its dirt. That means the bird likes him and wants to keep him clean.
It’s a great sized cage. Super happy about that. You need to replace the dowel perches with natural wood ones though as well as add a lot of foraging and shredding toys for them. Nothing plastic and no mirrors. Also covering them shouldn’t be done until night time and they would get 13+ hours of sleep (all year round) you shouldn’t cover their cage simply to calm them down or make be quiet (not saying that’s what you’d do) but if you can’t handle the noise you shouldn’t have such loud animals lol. Also start target training and flight training them. I see their wings are clipped but they can still fly, now would be a great time to start that training and swap the seeds out for pellets (healthy pellets not the fruity colorful ones). It’s hard to transition birds onto food they should be eating a lot of times but don’t give up on the process. Stainless steel bowls are also much better than those plastic ones. I’m glad they’ll be around plenty of people though! It’s good for socializing.
I’m getting a baby cociteal text week and I’m so EXITED!!!!
Do you know who you got the cockatiels from?
Cute little birbs. I love cockatiels they are so friendly when hand raised ☺️ hopefully my mom will let me get one lol I’ve been asking for a year, and we have a breeder in our city :) wish me luck!
Good luck and I love cockatiels to!
I really want one!
Hand tamed obviously
Aloha Mikey & Kiwi 🥝 🦜💛
😊💚
I have a cockatiel to and sometimes my cockatiel frosty fly onto my head and etc
This is what I want fir my kids because we have a budgie from a pet store that just disliked my kids and barely tolerates me. Are they still very friendly with your kids? Do they bite? Do they like the kids petting them? Are they for sure males?
How are they soo friendly already? Super cute though but aren't they scared at first for few days or weeks?
Hope you had a great Xmas.
We did, thanks! I hope you had a great Christmas too. :)
Where do you get them? i want to buy one
They look very happy and the cage is awesome but I have one tip for u. These sticks are not good for there feet’s natural wood sticks are way better and they need a platform in there cage to rest there feet’s. These are just some tips but I’m sure these cockatiels will have a very happy life :)
It is hand tamed bird ❓
If the tail has a pattern on it then it’s female I think and if there sweet and quiet then it’s female and there’s a chance the Latino cockatiel is female because of it’s colour of cheek I think
Making me feel so much better that you have children because I’m looking to do this and I don’t know if I can do kids and birds I kind a want to make it where they were a little older before I got them because they’re still three and one and I’m also expecting another one in August lol
How old were the cockatiels when you got them? What's the best age for adoption?
Cockatiels are very beautiful birds hopefully you can teach them to sing but just a heads up be prepared they can get quite noisy! I remember when we had 2 of them when I was younger back in the early 90s!
They don’t usually sing or talk, normally its a whistle.
I need some advice, I have a cockatiel who is about 7 but only had her two year's, shes ok in her self but looks sad/depressed sometimes. And I was thinking if to get her a friend (another cockatiel) they wouldn't be in the same cage or out together (partly because my cockatiel can't fly she has damaged wings from where she was before) I just thought a friend for her would help her not be sad. They would be close together but not out together. But what would be better a female or a male, thanks
I’m getting my new baby cockatiel in clackamas Oregon next week❤️🤘🏼
I just got a cockataiel yest and he is not at all like this! He is actually really stressed out
Very nice young cockatiels :-) Have all they been tamed by their bird-breeder ?
My cockatiel hates it when it's to dark I put a light in there cage
I love this video I'm getting cockatiels soon can you link the cage to me
Wow right when it goes on my finger it bites me like a snake and just holds on.
Oh no! Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it’ll eventually learn to trust you. We chose to get hand-raised birds for that reason. 😬
This is why babies are the best to get not adults
If the bottom of there tails have a bunch of designs on it then it's a female
Do u know the genders imagine if Mikey’s a girl and kiwis a boy😅
I wish it was that easy when I tried to get a bird
