We have a male pet store budgie and he really only likes me. Doesn’t like my kids though they want him to love them. Thinking of adding a cockatiel since I hear they can be better with bonding to more than one person and hopefully my kids can give the cuddles and scratches they so want to do with the budgie and can’t. Would you recommend a female or male cockatiel in terms of temperament and being loving? Talking isn’t a deal breaker. Only worry with females I have heard is the egg laying. We would go with a breeder who hand tames to get our best chance at the kids bonding with a young Bird for life but not sure if we should go with a male or female.
Also- will one cockatiel be ok to manage as far as dust in an open room with an aid purifier? Still too dusty? Are cockatiels much messier as far as poop? The budgie poop is more solid in general and easy to pick up. Is that not the same for the cockatiel? Is cockatiel poop more liquidy and runny like a pigeon or similar to budgie?

@@DanielFordVideo 😂 That’s funny! Josh & I were actually talking a few days ago about meeting people while out in town. I get recognized about once every month or two, but no one has EVER recognized Josh. Hahaha. I told him it’s probably because he rarely goes anywhere. I read him your comment just now & he said “So people look for me too!” 😄

I know, Haha! Josh kept saying he thinks Mikey is a girl because it's such a sweet & cuddly bird. Of course he ended up being right.

Are you finding that your male is becoming more affectionate now or is the female much nicer with the kids?
It depends on his mood. He doesn't usually like affection unless he sees Pika (the female) getting affection. Then he gets jealous. He'll move to stand beside her and lower his head so we'll pet him too. I don't think that's a gender thing, though. I think it all comes down to personality. I saw a lot of cuddly males when I went to meet these two for the first time at the bird-lady's house.

I have a 4- year old male that started doing those behaviors in his cage. It didn’t last long maybe a week and he stopped.
Males have the bright orange cheeks and females have dull orange cheeks. Mickey is a male- don’t worry
How surprising your boy turned out to be a girl!! Very sweet bird....maybe you can get into the breeding business? I'm impressed you were able to film and ride the scooter at the same time, I would have ended up going into the fence for sure😂 Always enjoy your videos, and looking forward to being able to vacation in Oregon again one day!
I don't think I could ever get into a breeding business because I'd worry way too much about every single baby that goes to a new home. I'd love them too much & I'd just end up with a lot of pet birds. Haha. It wasn't easy to film and ride the scooter! Mostly, it wasn't easy to STOP the scooter. I almost did crash. 😂

We’re mostly plant based. I’m not very talented or creative when it comes to cooking (lol), but I can make a video with some of my meal ideas/recipes. I’ll do that soon! ☺️

Mikey being female gives everyone the chance to practice using correct pronouns for her. Its a struggle but remember once there is a name chosen you can always use that instead of a pronoun. Glad that she's loved unconditionally and won't be rehomed etc. That scooter goes fast!
We’re slowly getting use to the pronoun transition. Merrick finally chose a new name for her, and now we’re trying to get use to that also! Lol. I’ll share her new name in an upcoming video. 😁
