    my parents always had parrots, and I was raised with a green cheek conure. He died when I was 19, and I had a traumatizing experience with a sun conure when I was looking into getting another one years ago. I am finally growing brave again and getting a sun conure baby next week! I have put a lot of thought into it, but am ready for the adventure. I have been binging your videos, thank you so much!!

      I am so sorry to hear what happened to you green cheek conure it must be heartbreaking, I love green cheeks but I have canaries and I love them to bits even though they don't like hand's my canaries have been tamed by me, Stay strong! How's you sun conure doing? They are so pretty and love scratches. If you need any help even though i don't have much experience with conures I am more then happy to advise you!

    I have been watching your videos for weeks now. Why, I am not sure. I have zero intentions of ever getting a bird.
    However, this video resolved something traumatic that happened in my childhood. I was pecked in the face by a relative's bird. Now, I realize the bird was crawling up my arm trying to find the highest and most comfortable spot on me!
    Thank you for such clear and informative videos!

    Another awesome 'how to' video with both the 'wrong' & 'right' behaviours on display to make it super-easy for us humans to recognise 😎👍 The 'hanging your bird on the cage' option is brilliant - it makes it easy for the bird to understand you want it to step off, without giving it any ways out of the move like it would have stepping onto a perch. And you can hang them on the door as you close it, so it's easier to keep your hand at the right angle & gives them no chance to sneak through before you close the door. Bird + human = happy!

    Thanks for a great educational post. I’m so glad I’m persisting with this training as on Christmas morning my corella ended up eating the centre out of his circular bird kebob toy (all natural) but he had the whole cylinder of it stuck around his neck (only for a few seconds... and only a corella right!) so I immediately assisted him to get it off but he was so spooked by the event and during the process he latched on to my fingers. It felt worse than it was. He then had that that cute ‘Thanks for saving me and sorry I bit you, time for a scratch perhaps?’ look 😍 I’m also happy I still have my fingers! This sort of training especially helps in these sort of emergency situations. Happy festive season :)

Anywhere on the body except hand 😂also he does not like to keep his feet tight to make him understand I want him to stay. I'd love some information on how you get your birds into the mindset that it's time for training. My bird may give me one minute of focus on what I'm requesting and then loose interest and fly off. He's not real food motivated so I make it fun because he likes to play. Unfortunately b4 I decided to do more than just tame, I've spent hours setting up play environments and letting him lead the play. It seems to me that he only wants to play when he's the leader. No problems with aggression.

    Do you ever have issues where the Macaws go after the smaller birds? Do you only have them out at separate times or distancing? I hear Blueberry is in the area.

    • @BirdTricks
      @BirdTricks  4 года назад +8

      Blueberry has a cage and playstand in Capri's room, and then we have foraging trees in all the other rooms (office, my bedroom, two in the main living space) so she tends to keep to her own spaces when the big birds are out or I might shut a door to encourage her to stay in her own space (though she can fit under if she REALLY wanted out) but for the most part, she is always around but not usually close to the medium to large birds. I try to heavily discourage any close contact like that with that size difference. I even do the same with my sun conures and medium/large birds.

    My cockatiel, Cashew, is stick trained. I've used it to try to get him off my shoulder with clicker and treat. He was ok a few times getting on my hand, but now he bites when i try. I don't react, but he bites very hard. He won't let me put my finger on his foot when he got on early in training. I've put toys out and once in awhile he'll jump to it. I reward it with the clicker and treat. I think he won't get on my hand from my shoulder because he associates it with touching his foot.😢
