Hey everyone, I had a couple people reach out to me on Facebook Messenger asking about my personal ESC settings. Generally, I just run throttle and brake with no reverse (reverse can be good for a beginner to help out of tough positions). I also generally max out the punch setting and remove all drag brake settings. depending on track condition I will generally adjust my throttle curve in my radio. As far as boost and timing is concerned (For the XR10 Pro) for drag cars I've not messed with that much yet but will update with another episode when I do as I'm still currently focused on "blinky" mode drag racing.
Thank you so much for this video. I bought a car for my son that did not have reverse and no book (bought used). This was a life saver for us, thank you!
Hey! great channel. We just installed the Hobbywing juststock 13.5 combo on the new Traxxas Super Stock class. I have an issue with the spur and the pinion gear not lining up correctly due to motor shaft being shorter than the 12t. If i turn the pinion inward the set screw extends past the shaft. If I turn it outboard with mounting side pushed flush with motor mount the teeth still sits about 3/16th outside of the spur gear. Have you had this before and how did you fix it.
I greatly appreciate the comment and support. I don't recall running into any issue before. Could be just the brand of pinion gear as some do have a longer thread boss. But ... Before you spend money, first check how you mounted the motor again. Did you remove the little black plastic insert part that is there to maintain gear mesh? Most of us remove that completely, set our gear mesh properly and just screw the motor securely without it.
Just getting into the hobby and I’ve upgraded my Traxxas to a Hobbywing MAX8, is there any programming on the remote we need to be aware of to get the Transmitter/Receiver/ESC to talk? I have a Flysky that has options for Analog/Digital/Other xxx, and it was having issues with the VXL-6 that I’m replacing. Don’t want any surprises once it arrives
Thats a great question, however, I may not have the exact answer you are looking for as I do not have any experience with FlySky systems or how they operate. My experience has been in Futaba systems and thats what I'm used to using. However, I do know of some friends that have used FlySky systems successfully withthe Hobbywing electronics. So it should be able to be done. I'm just not aware of the process. I know one of my friends told me how complicated the FlySky manual was due to poor english translations.
When you entered the drag brake force that long 1 beep means you are in option 5 = 40% drag brake force. After 4 beeps it does 1 long beep for 5 then each single beep after the long beep is 6,7,8..... Did you change settings when you plugged in? Cause It did show your brake drag force at 0 on your phone.
Hey HGrove. I did. If I recall correctly, I actually filmed the methods separately and maybe even out of order. But when it was all said and done everything was good to go.
Good question, it depends on which mode you are currently programming. If you just started, the first options would be the running model. The third blink would be forward with reverse. With 1 blink being forward with brake and 2nd bink being forward, reverse and brake. If programming manually by touch button, I highly recommend using the manual for reference as there are about 10 programable options. The manuals can be downloaded on your phone or printed off in PDF from the HobbyWing website. The program box simplifies the entire process as it gives you a detail of each item programming. I hope this helps.
is it posible to soften the engine up some how? tested a car with orca system and that had a punch setting that made the engine smoth and not so torque heavy, feel i want something like that on my HW system.
Extec, great question. With the right options you can likely tune this with two different methods. 1st method is lowering the punch setting in the ESC. This can be done in the HobbyWing ESC settings or with the program card and or app. The other method is tuning it in the Radio itself. Depending on if the Transmitter has this option and if so, which brand. Generally tuning the throttle curve settings can help as well.
@@extec101 I could be wrong, but I believe they may have called it something else. If I can remember or verify, I'll reply here again too. If memory serves me correctly, I found it by reading the descriptions in the manual and realized it was called something else.
Great question and I honestly cannot answer that as I have not tried that yet so I have no personal experience. However, I would imagine their website or manual would have more details on that. If not send them an email. Their customer service has always been helpful to me.

Jeff Bryner, great question. The biggest reason here is a mix of cost, class rules and no timing. The Justock version of the ESC is a no timing ESC. cost around $60 and we do a lot of SPEC racing between paved oval, dirt oval etc. Many, or should I say most classes require this specific speed control in the class rules due to those 3 things I mentioned. At a $60 price point serves very well for these classes. I do agree once you step into the higher end Hobbywing ESC's, the cost savings isn't really there anymore and in many cases, priced similarly to Tekin and other big brands.
@@jbtricklerc oh ok. Yeah we have a 10.5 blinky class but no specific brand. I run my tekin at 0degree timing. Most people I see are running xr10s and 7.5s in street stock. They just now made it 13.5 but still open esc amd both tracks I run at. I could see if you had a spe esc class then
