This test emulates every public toliet scenario i've seen
Lol
Including the missing toilet seat.
I have a Toto Drake 2 with dual cyclone flush. It flushes very quickly and with real life testing, it has never clogged in almost 3 years of everyday use.
Very nice!
This was really impressive. It showed everything! The best video on toilets I've ever seen! And totally changed my mind about which one to buy. Thanks!
You're welcome!
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations the kohler is scary it looks like a exlcamation mark
@@user-sn1qx1tm4l bruh
Thanks for using the dye. I know I made a recommendation not too long ago that you should add a few drops into the TANK for the 'initial flush' you do so we can see the placement and volume of water in the rim holes.
You're welcome
I like these comparison videos!
I have more coming!
This was very helpful. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you for these tests. I am curious if it is always necessary to artificially inflate the water level inside the bowl in order for these tests to do well?
They do work much better that way
Both are excellent toilets under normal usage. Personally I would increase the water in both tanks for optimum flushing. Kohler a classier looking toilet IMO but Toto Drake does better flushing on low water flushing. Can't go wrong with either one.
Nothing beats my poop knife!
This is the test wanted to see not just a rag test or some grocery bag test, so now we can see which is the better toilet.
that Kohler discharge port seems very small? Do they both have dual flush options?
I have seen Kohler Highline dual flush toilets but I haven't seen a Toto one yet.
The Toto Drake is underrated imo
The Toto Drake crushed that Kohler Highline. I counted a 4-0 final score in favor of the Drake.
I saw 3-2
Great video👍🏾
Thanks!
We always had the worst toilets in our house. The one piece american standard would never flush good and often needed multiple flushes or a plunger if you laid a big one. It gave me nightmares. I always noticed that my neighbor never ever replaced their toilet and never had any problems with it. Out of curiosity, I looked at the brand name of their toilet and it was a Toto. I don't remember the model they had but since that time, there is a Toto Drake 1.6 in our house and from then on zero 0 problems. Toto toilets for the win.
Toto seems to be a good one for performance. Their tank parts are also good quality and last a long time.
Do you have a current recommendation, particularly with 1.28 gpf toilets?
Project Source Pro Flush
The Toto prevails, but I'll take a vintage Kilgore or AS Cadet over either toilet here.
I have the Kohler. I believe it's a 1.4g flush. It's a really good toilet, but the throat is really wide making hard to plunge in the rare case it gets plugged. Maybe there are oversized plungers. The ceramic is very slick, so the toilet stays clean.
I have 4 T0T0 Drakes, and plungers don't seal to them very well, either. I recently bought a Korky "Beehive" plunger, which claims to seal to the odd-shaped trap openings, but I have not had to use it yet.
Edit: My mother has a Kohler Cimmaron, with the same flush mechanism in this video. Something about her water (chlorination?) swells the seal, and it starts leaking from the tank to the bowl, and it's hard to find the right part at a retail location when one is needed.
@@drwalker9093 I've since bought Toto Ultramax 1.6, and it is easier to plunge than my Kohler which was moved to a different bathroom. The Ultramax is supposed to have a 3" trap, but I still manage to plug it occasionally. Still, I do like it better than the Kohler 1 piece I have.
I have a Kohler.
I'm looking forward to sending it to landfill.
Hard to find parts for that thing.
It runs on and off all day and night!
They are both great in my opinion.
I actually have a Kohler Highline in my 3rd floor bathroom which replaced a Porcher toilet due to a crack on it.
I've never seen a Porcher before, that sounds interesting.
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_RestorationsHow about a Swiss Madison
The kohler, tends to stop up a lot when flushing large firm turds . The trap way has a near right angle at the bottom.
Yeah, they're really not great for normal use.
Kohler: “I’m one of the toilets best brand in the U.S!”
Toto: “Hold my beer”
will any toilets on the market control hard water stains on internal surfaces of the bowl and/or tank?
Any kind of toilet will get hard water stains if it is not cleaned frequently enough but it really depends on your water supply.
Legend!
Thanks
i liked the toto from the start (and still do) but both are good
I like the Toto too
Why the Toto drake took the dish towel separately and the class 5 taking them at both, even then your 2008/2007 Toto drake didn’t pass the washcloth/grocery bag and the class 5 took it like a champ?
That's strange, this was the only Drake I tested. Maybe you're thinking of the Lloyd? As to why they did better or worse other times, I may have used different materials or for whatever reason they might have just taken them differently.
Sitting on the shitter, watching this, realizing I am officially an old man. Sad day, but interesting video.
Thanks
Hey guys I am in same position as that other person not knowing if to replace. Have old kohler wellworth at least 25 years old. Clogs a lot and I know there are bad mineral deposits inside I can't get off. My bathroom is so tiny.. Maybe 5 by 5 feet. Figured buy a round toilet, which is what I have. But which? Also my rough in is 13.5. Any thoughts? I also wish these 2.25 flushes had more water in bowl. Thank you much for any replies.
With a 13" rough in, you should be able to install any toilet you want. I personally would recommend a Project Source Pro Flush.
I like these both, but the drake did better and the class 5 is a drake knockoff, also the highline is pretty common around me, and I’ve only seen one Toto drake. ClASS -5 Rating: E, Toto Drake Rating: A-
Sir, I just bought 2 toilets with the model name: “MS889DRT8”, the seller said it has tornado flushing technology but not sure it has Drake as your video
the drake needs more water and the highline needs a flapper
Both are decent imo
Are there any toilets with a higher waterline in the toilet bowl? I want more water in the bowl.
Sadly not because they have to be low so they can save water.
Do they make a model where your feet don't get wet when you flush?
Yep! ruclips.net/video/3AnLnvdgnCg/видео.html
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations That one is much better. 🤣
Is it true you can’t clean the Toto with bleach and the coating gets ruined eventually?
I have never tried it but toilet glaze is resistant to just about everything so I doubt it would damage the toilet.
The more I watch these toilet reviews, the more I don’t wanna change my 30+ year old toilets. I’m not crazy about these 1.28 gallon flushes. They just look so weak. Sure, I’m paying a bigger water bill but what’s the point if I still have to flush 2-3 times for a major “load” with these newer toilets? And on top of that, every other review, someone says Kohlers are better. So I’m even more confused now.
Yeah, definitely save the old ones. I don't know why people say Kohler is better because all I've seen from them is failure when I use them.
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations Yeah, I’ve been wanting to get my toilets changed and was doing my due diligence but the more I do, the more I have no idea if I should replace them anymore. The problem with these old ones are that I have to unclog them with a plunger once every other week and that’s annoying. But I like the extra water that sits there and that it takes to flush. Also I can’t tell you why people like either toilets. I have very little experience with them so i have to rely on RUclips vids…🤷🏻. Thanks for your vids.
@@d05wtt You're welcome! Maybe there's something wrong with your toilets that's causing them to clog like a low water level in the tank or minerals in the trapway.
So get a Toto drake 1.6 tornado flush! Also any professional plumber will tell you Toto is best
@@ravenmoto5948 If I can find one for free or cheap, I will!
You did leftover dye and dirt tests on both drake and the highline.
Rarely do they pass perfectly
Does this Drake have G-Max flushing or Tornado flush?
I believe it does
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations Thank you for your response but I believe it can only be one or the other- G-Max or Tornado? Do you know the model number by any chance?
@@jaclynklafter6770 G-Max 100% and I have no idea what the model number is.
Any thoughts on Delta Turner toilet single flush
I would stay away from Delta because they have very weak flushes and they've been known to crack during installation.
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations I appreciate that. Any thoughts on the American Standard Lexington toilet? My wife and I Both like the look of it. Seems decent from what I see. My big grip with Toto is they feel the need to stick there brand right on the front of the tank. I think that looks trashy.
@@xfishman123 I've never seen a Lexington before but they seem alright.
yea the drake wins but the class 5 isn't too far behind imo.
“I bless the loos down in Africa” I definitely think that the band Toto is better than the toilet company lol…
Great testing. Much appreciated! Toto it is.
Thanks!
You sir are the bestest hero
Thanks!
Please I know zero about toliets. I can't find the answer to this what is the differrence between class 5 technoiogy, Aquapiston, or and AquaPiston canister. Also Am I better with American Standard? I like to use wipes to clean my royal american. I'd prefer the name of Kohler to up the value of my house. (so which toilet or Technology would I be able to use wipes as oppsed to toliet paper and is quite. Please help thank you
Unfortunately, wipes are likely to cause sewer backups further down the line and they have to be snaked out even when they pass the toilet. I've heard that Cottonelle figured out how to make one that doesn't get stuck but I'm not positive. As for the toilet, I've found that the new flushing mechanisms do more harm than good because they let out very little water, they break more easily, and they're expensive. My top pick is the Project Source toilets from Lowe's because they can take a lot before clogging, they have simple parts, and despite being the generic store brand toilet, they are good quality and use American made tank parts. Hope this helped.
Tomads
Thank you! Very helpful!
Toto Drake 1.6 tornado flush is the one to buy!
I would like to find one someday
whats the water usage on these?
1.6 or 1.28 gallons I think
I do not like modern blowout toilets like these. They have terrible rinses, so they are not good for liquids or particles. This includes those identical Glacier Bay/AquaSource/Project Source/Penguin/Home Depot/Jacuzzi fixtures, although they aren’t really great for anything.
TOTO DRAKE: I’m the best toilet
KOHLER Highline Class 5: Nevermind
I hate it when my dish towel and grocery bag clogs the toilet.....
That happens a lot
Do the elongated Ingenium vs. the elongated 1st gen WG
The non defective one
Can someone explain to me the difference between drake and tornado, is that both flushing technology, or what?
Tornado is the design where it has one or two large jets in the rim that make a fast swirl around the sides. This one uses the G-Max design since it is older. Modern Drakes use the Tornado design.
I want to know which tank empties most of the water?
The Toto
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations thanks I’m close to buying one
Dish towel, fine... But does it work wit FECES

It's made specifically for those original Toto flush valves
Those toilets look like twins. I hope they both found new homes, or perhaps they both found a new home together. 🙂

The Toto has that special slippery coating, right?
I think most of them do now.
So that is what the sea shells are for.
Yep
the Toto Drakes trapway entry looks like my Gerber Avalanches trapway entry
Interesting, I haven't seen Avalanches very much.
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations yeah, I have 4 of em in my home, one of them in the other room has a more curved trapway and feels older
You're also did lil bit of dirt with the dish towel and a grocery bag then washcloth and a dish towel with dirt
Amazing toilets
I respect your opinion
Did you know that my favourite toilet is the Kohler classic five
Cool!
Do you think a Highline Pressure Assist would do better?
It might do better on the tests but it wouldn't do better on normal use.
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations Thank you for your fast response! I’m looking to replace a 15 year old Koehler Cimarron that frequently clogs. Would you recommend the Drake?
@@jaclynklafter6770 I don't know how they have changed over the years but I think as long as you don't get an Eco Drake, you should be fine.
So that's what the seashells are for.
Yep, now I use the bottom of a soda bottle.
This is like if billy bob Thornton became a plumbers intern
Lol
Well I prefer the class 5
I think the class 5 would be better with a longer flush. It's always water starved.
That’s because the Kohlers have those AquaPiston flush valves (which make the flushes too short) instead of the normal flappers like most toilets have.
You can hold down the handle will flush almost anything and equivalent of larger flush on two button toilet
5:16 I forgot it was just dirt for a second
Eww lol
They do look similar
Yeah, it's almost like one is a copy of the other.
TOTO Toilet.
I have had 5 TOTO Toilets and have not had any issues with what they flush.
I HAVE had issues with the construction and how they flush.
1 - TOTO’s inside tank flush mechanism is a round piston that goes down into a cylinder. The mechanism hangs up and does not seal at times. It does not matter how old your TOTO is - this can happen at any time. I have added a large lead EGG shaped fishing weight to the top of the piston to help assure it goes down. This has worked very well but not perfect.
The inside tank flush mechanism is not the old “flapper” style. I do not know if the other brands current models use the old rubber stopper/flapper(inexpensive to repair) or not. I am only familiar with TOTO.
2 - The flush handle on the outside that is connected to the inside tank lift rod is an issue. They did not build the tank top to accommodate a proper swing of the interior lift arm.
A hard push of the handle can result in the handle being stuck in the down position. This lets the water run until the handle position is corrected. As the homeowner I know how to flush so this does not happen, but the grand kids don’t, and the handle constantly hangs up after they flush. The flush mechanism should be kid proof.
3 - The bowl Interior surface or glaze lets debris stick to it unlike any other brand I have ever seen.
That sounds very frustrating. It sounds like the handle you have may be installed incorrectly. Also you may want to see if you can clean debris from around the flush valve and that should solve it.
Bro chill out
@@IkkyuDHe's just telling about the problems that his toilet has

This version doesn't
Both are fine but I’d take an ingenium or vintage WellworthIT over both.
I like your toilets especially when they get punished
It's fun to punish them
Shhoot
Good to know that these toilets can suck down huge items like a dish towel so that instead of just getting stuck in the toilet they get stuck way down into your plumbing system where it's much more expensive
You shouldn't be flushing those things into the sewer system to begin with so I don't think that's really an issue.
unless you have kids.
