Then when they flushed upstairs and almost flooded it again, I was like "oh no". Glad you cleared it quick and identified that the toilet wasn't properly sealed. I hope he looked at that before buying a whole new toilet

You've stopped putting on that lonnnnnnnngggggg red glove to reach to the bottom of traps. Any reason?
Man that pipe upstream of the trap is super scaly. Think of how many million homes in NYC in the next 20-30 years are going to suffer from cast iron waste pipes scaled up so bad that nothing will get thru! Think of the cost to each homeowner to rip all that out and install new pipes. And the service mains from the traps to the street mains! It boggles the mind how bad it's gonna be in a few decades. Infratstucture, folks, infrastructure...

I think it depends on how deep the trap is and I agree on updating infrastructure NOW, not once it is an issue. I've seen here in CT when a main line breaks in a street from old pipes. Last one it made a massive hole in the ground and it was like at 3am. Businesses and residents waking up to no water

I usually pull out the long red gloves to go in the trap yes but if there is some hard build up, it makes it kinda hard with them on, I definitely use them when the intire pit is filled with sewage 🤢😉👍

Any tips for a red seal plumber who is just getting into service side? What machines do you prefer, what are some things you try to look for first when assessing what drain to use. How do you make sure you dont partially remove the blockage and have it spit out flooding their place and causing more damage? I feel confident and skilled on the construction side but service side leaves my brain with 500 questions especially when there is a distressed and concerned home owner forking over a lot of money.

I personally prefer the Spartan 300 ,700 and the 100 machines. You'll get the best advice from someone in your state that you're working in. I'm in NY, and I'm not sure about the other 49, but I'm sure the setups and clean outs are different somehow. Best of luck. Always pop the street side off first 😉
