    I can’t remember what I made as a RN (20 years ago/bachelors degree/21 years old at the time) went back to school for CRNA ( certified registered nurse anesthetist) and made roughly around $90.00 an hour or $180,00 a year. Went on to medical school and now I’m an cardiac anesthesiologist. I do everything as an anesthesiologist but went on to do fellowship as a cardiac anesthesiologist with TEE certification. My job consist off above and heart and lung transplant etc.
    I say all of this to never give up. I was in my late 30s finishing my medical and fellowship and now in my 40s. Follow your dreams and never let anyone tell you it can’t be done. NEVER! I’m in surgery longer but work maybe 120 hours a month and making roughly 460,00 a year by doing my job and also working in ambulatory settings when I want for extra hours (12 hours a month) because I love my bread and butter cases.
    Good luck to all, and I’m proud of you! Pat yourself on the back girl. ❤️

    • @shadesofvintageblue
      @shadesofvintageblue 6 лет назад +83

      aiyedun516 aiyedun516 yes I dated throughout but met my husband first year of college. Dated him until my junior year of college and chose the single like for CRNA/masters. We remained friends and got married afterwards. Married 12 years now. Only regret we dont have any kids and it’s now too late as I had to get an emergency hysterectomy first year of med school. My husband is fine but I do think about and get in my mood where my mind wonders to the “what if”. The good side I have both worlds of doing what I love, enjoying my husband, and travel. Don’t let anyone tell you what you’re capable of doing. Throughout my time, unfortunately being a black person and a female I had many against me. It’s a male dominated job and only had my nurse colleagues, husband and family who kept me on the right path. It’s never too late and it doesn’t matter your age. Good luck and if anyone want to follow this path or want pointers just let me know. Sorry typing fast with errors but I’m in surgery right now.

(Not everyone is willing to clean butts) I make $345.00 a week 😫. I made more at my last job by just taking care of dogs -_-. The only reason why I stay is because the hrs are good 7:30 am till 2:00 pm so I'm able to spend a lot time with my baby after work. I'm about to go to school to get my bsn and become an RN. I just hope everything goes through. I really like this video, I just think it's so sad with all the hard work cna's do and get paid very little for it.

    Okaaaaay so I’m a new nurse in Mississippi ( I have passed my boards already so I’m not exactly a GPN anymore ) . So all my other classmates are starting off around $17-$18 at local skilled nursing facilities. I actually decided that I didn’t want to work at a nursing home, so I applied to a Hospital & they start off new LPNS at $15 something & then they have a $2.50 shift diff (I’m going to be night shift). So I ended up around the same as them but you know. I really wanted hospital experience so there’s always a price we have to pay for what we want I guess!

    • @yourfavnurseb9699
      @yourfavnurseb9699  6 лет назад

      Yes that’s the same here, hospitals pay less but you may get more clinical experience. Maybe you can do PRN at a nursing home if you find you want more cash. Congrats on finishing school! Take advantage of any tuition assistance that your job offers.

It was TOUGH work! 😧 However, learned so much and I have TREMENDOUS respect for the work the CNA s do. Gogeta Universe I had some older women in my class. One was 50 and other 47. You can’t let age determine your path. I went to school again at 25, sat out a semester and had to repeat one due to my mom and sister passing while I was in school. I’m currently a nurse and heavily considering going back to school once all this is over. I’ll be in my late 30’s once I probably finish, but there is no rush in life and I’m not in competition with anyone. Your goals are that, YOURS!! No matter what age you finish. Just find your passion and stick with it. At least you’ll be able to say, “I did everything I planned.” Good luck hun and God bless!

      I bet that's the same attitude people who end up losing their homes, cars, etc have. The same attitude that mounds of people now a days have. Debt up to their ears or 1000$ iphones in thier pockets and 500$ handbags on their shoulders, with not even that much, if anything at all, in savings in the bank: Spend spend spend, makes me feel good to have this material object that brings very little value to my life, so spend spend spend some more, don't waste another day waiting to get something you want because you JUST MIGHT get hit by a bus tomorrow. blah blah blah.
      *rolls eyes *
      It's called being financially responsible and living below your means.
      Nobody is saying to save "EVERYTHING", but a new car is definitely NOT a necessity, especially when she JUST started getting better money. You say money is not all. Well material things aren't all either just the same as money. If she were making like twice as much or more per year now, I'd be singing a different tune, but that is not the case. Yea it's good money, but if you pile bills up onto your back, good money can quickly turn into barely enough money + stressful days. Her money is better off being saved in moderation for the car she wants while she drives her (I'm assuming still functional) vehicle for a while & saves what would be wasted on a car lease on something more important, a rainy day, or at the very least, something that is actually hers. Car leases are a waste of money the same as renting. Both useful if absolutely necessary or you're making so much that the payment is next to nothing to you, but a waste of money either way you want to put it. You pay and pay and pay, and nothing is ever really yours.

    Just found out I passed NCLEX PN today! Looking forward to that first paycheck!! LPN's here in Mississippi make 15 - 19.50 /HR depending on if you work at a doctor's office (15) or a nursing home (18 - 19.50). So ready to buy groceries without having to count everything in my cart twice to make sure I didn't go over the money I have. It's been a LONG year!

Courses like Anatomy and physiology 1 & 2, chemistry, human growth and development, statistics, microbiology and psychology are common prerequisites for entry into a BSN program. However, I always recommend checking with the school(s) you’re applying to. After your prerequisites are done and you’ve gotten into a BSN program you’ll then do all of your core nursing classes! I live in nyc. Cna’s will make $15 by the end of the year. Maybe $16 or $17 if you end up at a really good hospital downtown. Minimum wage will go up from $13 to $15 by 12/31/18.

    I am a former CNA & now a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Starting off back years ago I was making less than $7.50 an hour. My highest pay as a CNA was $15 an hour. When I received my first degree in Respiratory and was offered $25 an hour as a CRT, I was so happy. I then passed my registry and my pay went to $27 an hour. My first check was unbelievable. I cried. Now I was recently at $32 an hour base and with my differential I was at $35 an hour. I just took a pay cut and now I'm back at $28 an hour, but I'm a NICU RT, so I needed the experience. I am planning on applying for PA and nursing school next semester.

      That is so awesome! I’ve thought about stepping away from nursing and trying RA or even occupational therapy, but before becoming a nurse I wanted to be a registered dietitian. So much is put in nurses, seems like picking a specialty outside of nursing can create less of a burn out. What makes you want to become a PA or nurse?

    If you live in a high cost of living area, making an average hr. Salary isn't enough for what nurses do. Average in tx is mid 60000's and in cali it's between mid 50,000 and 90000's . i am working towards being a NP and researching where you will practice nursing is financial important and responsible.

    Hey, girl congratulations on getting your Nurse Degree. So, proud of you for sticking it out and finishing what you started. Yeah, I have four relatives who are in the medical field. We have two Nurses, one Lab Technologies and one CRNA in my family. They work in different States so, their paychecks are different money ($$$) amount. Here in Michigan the money ($$$) amount is so good...I mean really good!!! And in North Carolina the pay is okay! But, over in Atlanta the pay is really good!!! So, maybe you might what to relocate or something. Oh, Texas is another place that has good pay for Nurses as well as California. Now, in both Texas and California the cost of living (rent, food and transportation) is high and the stuff but, the pay is still good. So, you might want to checkout a few other States for their going salaries. And in Michigan and California have signing bonuses for their New Nurses. Good, luck with whatever you do and continue to grow in your Medical Career. Again, Congratulations on getting your Nurse Degree. God Bless you and keep your eye open for opportunities out there for you. Bye!!! 👍👍👍😎🆒

    It makes so much of a difference.. I worked as a cna for 6 months, only made $15.50/hr. Went back to waitressing, as cna work is hard labor for such low pay smh. As an lpn I now make $30/ hr working per diem. Twice! what I made as a cna. Such a world of difference. I live in New York btw. Getting ready to go back to school to do the lpn to rn bridge program, an rn was always what I wanted to be... life circumstances just took me on a different route. And you’re right about looking back and thinking damn at the time I felt like I was making more than that lmao that’s true because I was able to stretch that money back then and I was ok. When my mom started nursing in, I think 1975, she made about $10K her first full year of working! Now she has 40 years of dialysis experience and I think part time now makes about $35/hr in TN. She's had some good $75K years doing dialysis. It's crazy though, we have so many people move here from CA for cheaper housing & they're used to making $60-80/hr as a nurse and had no idea the south pays so much less lmao for real yall?
    I feel like back when I did HR in healthcare & we hired nationwide probably the average was $21/22/hr for new grads(and starts to move up after that NG program ends)- it all really depends so much on where you live tho. And it's so different based on the type of place you work at too- privately owned senior home vs corporate hospital vs non-profit hospital vs VA vs a family doctor office vs urgent care center vs research nurse etc. It's a good reminder that if you feel stuck or frustrated or disappointed after your first year or two that there is so much more out there for you to get into in nursing!
