Why can’t we normalize quitting where you don’t feel comfortable. there are so many jobs out there for nursing it’s actually a blessing.

    • @sergel02
      @sergel02 19 дней назад

I think it’s partly because every job will make us uncomfortable in some way, and only we can’t quit every job since we got bills to pay. But it’s also fine to quit after you’ve given it a chance and gave effort and it’s still not the right fit.

@Mellie hi, I can relate to families being unkind. I'm in nicu & I swear idk if having a prem baby makes you crazy or the craziness was already there. One mother got mad at me b/c I wasn't in the room when they arrived to visit. I had taken another baby for a test & was gone 1.5 hrs & when I returned I was getting the baby settled & these other people got mad b/c I didn't attend to them fast enough.
That's why I'm so grateful to the appreciative families & for going out of their way to tell us. Sometimes it makes up for the mean ones.

@@Junebug6789 I was starting an iv on a baby when another family came at 11 pm for their baby who I had just fed and did cares on already. I guess their baby spit up a lil but was ok other wise. The family was so concerned even though the baby was fine. The vitals were normal and I was right there starting an iv on another kid. I told them he’s ok. They can clean it up or I will once I am done with the Iv. I guess they told the charge nurse this that I neglected their baby? Like how? I am one person. I’ve been a nurse for 15 years.. working in the nursing home and hospital. How many jobs I had? Floor nurse, charge nurse, supervisor, nurse educator, fill in nurse manager, and wound and ostomy. Working all hours every shift. That’s the beauty of it all, you can do whatever and where ever you want to go and if it’s not working, it’s time for a change. Not everyone can be a nurse. I know that anxiety going to a job all too well. That means it’s not the right one. So wherever your heart takes you, you can give your 100 % and feel good about what you do. I wanted to do mom and baby at the beginning. I worked as a secretary at one … nope 👎🏽. Too stressful. I love the nursing home and I’m a certified wound and ostomy nurse at the hospital. I also found out I thrive with PRN and not full time. You’re doing great!

As a retired RN I have to say it takes a while to really become proficient as a RN. I quit my first job as they were making us work two different shift's at that time. I had a small son and needed to work 7-3 shift. Once I started the second job, found it much better. It took me at least seven year's to feel proficient. Also the RN who talked about saving and investing. That is something I did and now since I'm retired glad I did. Take your time follow your intuition and do what is best for you. Never let anyone who is external to you dictate your future. You can also take a less stressful job and then go back. Please do not burn yourself out and learn to say "NO". Once I did that and was in control of my own power loved nursing.

New grad ICU nurse here. I needed this video. I am in the same position of trying to figure out if I need another job for my health. I have lost 15 lbs in 8 weeks. My body doesn’t know when to sleep. When to eat. I’m usually positive and bubble but I feel like my light is being dimmed. The things I’ve seen in the last 6 months have taken something from me that I can’t get back. I feel like I’m disappointing everyone around me because I’m not operating at my full capacity. My doctor won’t give me a note to move to days or medication to help me eat on nights. I feel so blessed to be in an amazing ICU but I also don’t know how much longer I can sustain this. I thought I was just weak. Your video made me feel seen. Made me feel validated. And made me feel like I was not alone. And I thought I was. Thank you for this ❤ sending love to you in this trying time.
Edit: I’m literally crying through this whole video.

You are an amazing nurse, content creator and a great inspiration to all of us nurses! That is the beauty of nursing - being able to switch from nights to days and completely changing your specialty. Your team was lucky to have a dedicated and hardworking nurse on their unit. It sounds like you had a very supportive group of nurses which makes learning so much easier. Hang in there, Madison! You are a GREAT role model and inspiration! Learning is not linear. There will be good and bad days, like with any job, but I hear you. There are so many factors to consider when coming on shift. Good for you for thinking of yourself and your physical and mental health. It's very important for you to put yourself first. You are definitely not letting anyone down. Thank you for being real with us and sharing your journey as I am sure a lot of us are dealing with the same feelings. You have come so far and will only grow more from this point on! Hang in there and don't be too hard on yourself (I know, easier said than done). Take care and congratulations again on taking care of you! :)

GIRL! LET ME JUST SAY!! I have not even finished this video yet but you got me tearing up. YOU DONT GOTTA WORRY ONE BIT ABOUT LETTING US DOWN!! The reason why you have this following is because of who YOU are. Not the fact that u specifically do L&D nursing. Maybe some people related to that but many us, including myself, connected to you for who you are. You’re truly kind and compassionate, you’re patient with others, you enjoy sharing, teaching, learning with us. You’re beautiful and intelligent! I subscribed to you when I found the “what’s in my college bag” vid. I was in my LPN program at that time, debating to stay or go. I’m glad to say I stayed and bridging for RN now. U had a part in that!! Your videos have been motivating at my most difficult times in school. I graduated last august and girl I’ve left 2 jobs! I started in the ED 3 weeks after my NCLEX. It was too much for me to start with.. I went to a nursing home. And finally landed In Medsurg in January. Love it so far but I know it won’t be my last stop. The beauty of nursing is finding your niche, your special place. ❤just want to tell you that deep down, u know what’s best for U in this moment! No regrets, and don’t worry about us, we got you!! 🫶🏼

People tell me in the nursing field you shouldn’t let people change u ( because I’m so bubbly and fun and they aren’t) but I tell them that this field will make me change because everyday I hear don’t let people play with me and someone is ALWAYS being mean daily. How can I possibly not change ? And it ls for the worse. So when they ask me if I wanted a job I said yes but I plan to only be there for 2 years to get my experience. Putting your mental health first so you don’t change who you are is completely ok. That’s is stronger then staying in a job thinking it won’t change who you are

I can relate 100% !! I’m not a nurse lol I’m a hairstylist BUT we all have to go through a few places to find what works best for us. We change and grow and sometimes we just outgrow our environment & that’s okay !! I think watching you transition through this job and into the next is exactly what we need to see and is the best way you can be a role model. Showing the truth of what it’s like and being open and vulnerable and showing that it’s okay to quit a job and find another one !! It’s all part of the process & watching you go through this will definitely make someone not feel so alone !!! & don’t feel like you’re letting yourself down either !! Take pride in the fact that you were able to listen to your body and you made a confident decision & you’re doing what’s best for you & your mental health & your lifestyle !! This is your nursing journey, it doesn’t stop after you graduate & get your license !! It’s ongoing & we’re all here rooting you on 💗 I’m praying for you through this season of life !!
Also, idk if you’ve thought about this or if it would even be possible, but how FUN would it be if you were the nurse at the school your twin sister works !! Or where your little bro goes !! That would just be so sweet and nice haha maybe a door will open up for you there !! No matter what, God has a plan for you and He is in control ! No matter what choices you make in life, God will meet you where you’re at and guide you down every path you take !! You’re doing great 🫶🏼

Been in med surg almost 3 years and I am going through this right now (again) and it is so scary and painful to dread going to work when I used to love going to work and I’ve gone from bubbly to disgruntled (on the inside) because I am expected to handle progressive level acuity alone (6-7 to 1) with shitty equipment and combative patients I feel so abused and unappreciated even after working 14 hours to make sure I leave nothing behind for the next shift which is my fault but that’s how I am….there’s all new people I don’t even recognize and I miss my old friends that left to travel and I don’t blame them. I've been exactly where you are Madi! You are not disappointing anyone. You are a role model for knowing your boundaries and taking care of yourself. I worked in the OR my first job out of nursing school and I too had a ton of oncall hours in addition to 40+ hours of scheduled work. I also had to get to the hospital in 30 minutes and lived 28 minutes away. So stressful and draining. You are a great nurse and taking this time to rejuvinate yourself and find the person you used to be when you started this nursing journey is the best thing you can do for your patients because when you are happy, confident, and energized that is when you're going to provide the BEST care. I quit my 1st job after 1 year and went to a position with a normal schedule. It helped me SO much and after a year in that position I moved states and am now working PRN at a clinic and doing some non-nursing related jobs on the side. It is amazing. Trust that you put in all the hard work already and there are so many options out there for you in the future that you will be able to ENJOY and flourish in. Your'e doing an awesome job.

As a new grad ED nurse, I related to this video so much. I’ve worked in this ED for almost two years, one year as a tech and one year as a nurse. I’ve worked nights for 4 years since I started years ago inpatient. It worked great for my schedule then, but now as an RN with days off and no school, it is so hard. So so hard working nights, and being able to show up for yourself after shifts, for your family and friends. I asked my management team to switch from a mid shift to a day mid shift (3p-3A to 11a-11p) so I can be on a more normal sleep schedule. Thank you for sharing how you feel. It makes me feel less a lone knowing that I’m not the only one feeling the same feelings. It doesn’t make you weak, it makes you so so strong for being able to recognize that this schedule is not for you. I feel like my light has been dimmed and I’m fighting so hard to get a piece of me back that’s been taken away from my job.

I then lost my mum last July and I just couldn’t do it anymore. The job just drained me, it killed my soul. I’m now working in a cardiologist clinic, no shift work just Monday to Thursday 0800 - 1600 hours. The difference I feel is amazing. I left my friends but I needed to do it for myself. I just came across your channel and as a nurse of 13 years that’s BEEN THROUGH IT, I had to let you know that what you did was the hardest, bravest & BEST thing you could do for yourself & the fact that your only a year into nursing and you knew to do this makes you a great role model for others in your situation that are afraid to take this step. I have been in your situation with MANY nursing positions & I cried watching this. It’s heartbreaking to leave the positions knowing we are leaving our nursing family & the patients, SO.HARD. The days & weeks afterward I’ve even grieved, it’s not easy leaving a great team of nurses & a nurse manager, there’s no way to describe the heartache. I also wanted to say I think most of us think we aren’t good nurses & talk bad to ourselves about the kind of nurse we are, this was my self talk too & it’s hard to break that habit but can be done. And nursing the learning never stops, just remember that, and give yourself Grace. I have had many different nursing positions, and you will find what’s best for you. Clinics ended up being best for me & my mental health because of how bedside/hospital work affects our body & mind. Keep us updated & good luck on your new journey! ❤

as a new grad LDRP nurse myself, I just wanted to say you are not alone in your feelings & thoughts. hearing you talk about your experience I can relate to a lot of your struggles ❤ your feelings are real, valid and totally normal!! working night shift is tough, especially trying to figure out how to balance a somewhat normal schedule on those off days. hang in there girl, you should be proud of everything you have accomplished thus far in your nursing journey 🤗

Loved this video. I had a breakdown yesterday because of my hectic schedule. I work at an ultrasound clinic, just front desk, but it’s 12 hour shifts. Your videos have given me such an insight into the real nursing world & I love that you’ve shown the bad parts! With social media it doesn’t feel real sometimes like doesn’t feel human. Loved this vid & proud of you for making the best decision for you in this stage of your life 🌸

You are not alone. Ive been a nurse 3.5 years, started in med surg then went to observation (like a subsection of the ER) and when I say I am right there with you, I mean it. I have physical pain and health problems, and this job is entirely making my mental health suffer. I had to get FMLA to be able to take time off to take care of my physical health needs and see docs out of state, because my manager wouldnt give me time off or change my schedule. I have been absolutely suffering and looking to quit my job in the next couple months. It is a very hard thing to do, but we got this. Look at all the success stories in these comments. It gives me hope. Know that your channel and hard work is providing that support and positivity and love and community for all of us. Thank you for being you, being authentic, and taking care of yourself. It scares me so much that you have lost that much weight because I have an eating disorder and that concerns me. That is exactly what happened to me on nights. Early on I was doing ok surprisingly (even during covid) but now I am a mess. I am in so much physical pain all the time and so depressed. The moment where it really clicked that this job is toxic was when I no longer wanted to be around on this planet. That is when I knew, when I was thinking about it all the time at work.

I’ve been watching you since the beginning. You have grown to be such a role model for me. I’m going to college for medical assisting this august, then I’m going back for nursing, then I plan on going for a np. You have shown me that it’s possible. Yes it’s sad right now but God has a plan for you beautiful. He knows exactly where you need to be and where your going. I’m praying for you and your next steps. Thank you for posting this and showing all of us that it’s okay not to be okay. So many RUclipsrs, influencers etc don’t show us this side. So thank you for making us feel normal. Sending you all the love 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

Hey Madi! Been following your journey for the past few years - I graduated at the same time as you in Cle. I worked nights in a critical care environment during my practicum & soon realized that the stress of this schedule/unit ruined my mental health, although I LOVED this patient population. Because of this, I started as a new grad in outpatient while all my peers started in the hospital. I was fearful at first about doing something different and “not being resilient enough” - however, I could not fathom staying in such a dark mental space for any longer. Now, one year later, I’m making double what I would have made inpatient with less than half the stress. My free time is finally my own time, and not just recovery time. It can be daunting to make such a huge change, but your mental and physical health will thank you! Your ultimate obligation is to take care of YOURSELF - you are not letting anyone down by leaving the hospital, but rather promoting your own health and well-being, which is an admirable quality of a good nurse. ❤ sending love for where your journey takes you!

Madi, you are an amazing nurse. Your vulnerability is inspiring. If something isn’t adding to our life, we have to leave it even if it’s hard. Be proud of putting your mental health first. We have to take care of ourselves before we can care for others. Looking forward to hearing what’s in store for you ❤️❤️❤️

I started out nights in the ED and when I tell you I understand everything you feel. You’re not alone. I had to leave after a year. It was changing me as a person and I couldn’t ever relax because of the stress. You need to do what’s best for yourself. I’m doing outpatient and have a regular schedule now. It has changed my life! It was so hard to leave bc I felt like I worked so hard for my education and I was wasting it or wasn’t strong enough. But no one knows what we go through unless they’ve been through it themselves. You have to take care of yourself first or you will have nothing to give

I’m not even a nurse nor am I interested in being a nurse but I LOVE watching your videos and supporting you. It’s your bubbly personality and positivity that I enjoy seeing. I DEFINITELY think you’re making the right decision by focusing on yourself and getting your mental and physical health straight and back on track. One of my associates is a nurse and she took a while off after being a hospice oncology nurse she’s now a nurse at a dermatologist office and seems so much more happier and healthier. When a job makes you feel the way you are it’s not worth it ! YOU GOT THIS ! WE ARE ALL HERE TO SUPPORT YOU. IM SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU ON YOUR NEW JOURNEY . I CAN SENSE A GLOW UP AND A NEW BEGINNING APPROACHING 💕

Starting off as a new grad night shift nurse myself 3 months ago has been extremely challenging but i keep reminding myself that its because I'm inexperienced. Nursing is so rewarding but it takes a toll on all of us sometimes - so glad you chose yourself first ❤

Your not disappointing anyone. You are a wonderful role model!! This video will help so much for people! You have to do what is best for you so you take care of others. I love how you said you still love nursing and how much you love it. It can be so hard to leave co workers. Don't feel bad. I remember a time I wanted to do it all and I had a doctor ask me to do a favor for him. I told him I just can't do it. He said he was proud of me for saying no and putting me and my family first. Your amazing human!! Hugs!! Its okay to have all the emotions.

You’re not disappointing us. We want you to do what’s best for you because only then, that you’ll be able to be best for your patients. Self care before patient care. I used to work nights and it does affect your mental health in many ways. Some people are ok working nights, but for me, moving to day position had such a huge impact that I would not go back for extended time.
    We’re supporting you, Madi!

I’m a pediatric nurse who’s burnt out on my unirt and I found your channel because I’m thinking about switching to L&D. Everything you said resonated with me SO much. I feel like we’re literally in the same boat except the irony is I want to switch to L&D! But I’m also about a year and 3 months into my nursing career and have been feeling all of the same things as you and think it’s time for a change. You made me feel so much better about my own situation and journey, so thank you! ❤ We have so many options, it’s worth exploring them! We got this!
