Why can’t we normalize quitting where you don’t feel comfortable. there are so many jobs out there for nursing it’s actually a blessing.

    • @sergel02
      @sergel02 5 месяцев назад +3

I think it’s partly because every job will make us uncomfortable in some way, and only we can’t quit every job since we got bills to pay. But it’s also fine to quit after you’ve given it a chance and gave effort and it’s still not the right fit.

@Itme Honestly yes and its so sad because we go into this field wanting to help people and do good and instead we just get shoved around and treated like shit. It sucks so much getting home daily to basically breakdown because of how were treated by patients and their familys and even sometimes our own managers. I dont know why i put up with it anymore.

@Mellie hi, I can relate to families being unkind. I'm in nicu & I swear idk if having a prem baby makes you crazy or the craziness was already there. One mother got mad at me b/c I wasn't in the room when they arrived to visit. I had taken another baby for a test & was gone 1.5 hrs & when I returned I was getting the baby settled & these other people got mad b/c I didn't attend to them fast enough.
That's why I'm so grateful to the appreciative families & for going out of their way to tell us. Sometimes it makes up for the mean ones.

@@Junebug6789 I was starting an iv on a baby when another family came at 11 pm for their baby who I had just fed and did cares on already. I guess their baby spit up a lil but was ok other wise. The family was so concerned even though the baby was fine. The vitals were normal and I was right there starting an iv on another kid. I told them he’s ok. They can clean it up or I will once I am done with the Iv. I guess they told the charge nurse this that I neglected their baby? Like how? I am one person. I am not ur babies dedicated nurse. I have three other babies. It’s so hard. I left nicu bedside and went to grad school. I did nicu for over five years and med surg for over a year. Nursing is so beautiful but horrible at the same time. I been nightshift forever and I swear day shift thinks we do nothing.

How can I possibly not change ? And it ls for the worse. So when they ask me if I wanted a job I said yes but I plan to only be there for 2 years to get my experience. I’ve been a nurse for 15 years.. working in the nursing home and hospital. How many jobs I had? Floor nurse, charge nurse, supervisor, nurse educator, fill in nurse manager, and wound and ostomy. Working all hours every shift. That’s the beauty of it all, you can do whatever and where ever you want to go and if it’s not working, it’s time for a change. Not everyone can be a nurse. I know that anxiety going to a job all too well. That means it’s not the right one. So wherever your heart takes you, you can give your 100 % and feel good about what you do. I wanted to do mom and baby at the beginning. I worked as a secretary at one … nope 👎🏽. Too stressful. I love the nursing home and I’m a certified wound and ostomy nurse at the hospital. I also found out I thrive with PRN and not full time. You’re doing great!

New grad ICU nurse here. I needed this video. I am in the same position of trying to figure out if I need another job for my health. I have lost 15 lbs in 8 weeks. My body doesn’t know when to sleep. When to eat. I’m usually positive and bubble but I feel like my light is being dimmed. The things I’ve seen in the last 6 months have taken something from me that I can’t get back. I feel like I’m disappointing everyone around me because I’m not operating at my full capacity. My doctor won’t give me a note to move to days or medication to help me eat on nights. I feel so blessed to be in an amazing ICU but I also don’t know how much longer I can sustain this. I thought I was just weak. Your video made me feel seen. Made me feel validated. And made me feel like I was not alone. And I thought I was. Thank you for this ❤ sending love to you in this trying time.
Edit: I’m literally crying through this whole video.

I had a small son and needed to work 7-3 shift. Once I started the second job, found it much better. It took me at least seven year's to feel proficient. Also the RN who talked about saving and investing. That is something I did and now since I'm retired glad I did. Take your time follow your intuition and do what is best for you. Never let anyone who is external to you dictate your future. You can also take a less stressful job and then go back. Please do not burn yourself out and learn to say "NO". It is okay to make lateral moves in the field. Part of growing in the field is trying new things. Part of your journey.

I left my first nursing job in a magnet Hospital, within 6 weeks of having started. The year was 2010 and finding a nursing job in an acute care setting without prior experience, was next to impossible. I had the same feelings you are having today, in fact, I felt like a failure. But you know what? I made the best decision I could have done. No, I did not quit from nursing, I simply took time to think what I truly wanted to do with my career. I am a very happy nurse today, continuing to learn from this amazing profession. My advice for you: Go pray deeply and dearly, put your mental and physical health at the top of your priority list, surround yourself by your loved ones, and take time to heal and think about what you want to do, and go for it…

You’re truly kind and compassionate, you’re patient with others, you enjoy sharing, teaching, learning with us. You’re beautiful and intelligent! I subscribed to you when I found the “what’s in my college bag” vid. I was in my LPN program at that time, debating to stay or go. I’m glad to say I stayed and bridging for RN now. U had a part in that!! Your videos have been motivating at my most difficult times in school. I graduated last august and girl I’ve left 2 jobs! I started in the ED 3 weeks after my NCLEX. Just came across your video. I’m a nurse in Australia and I’ve just changed the area of nursing I work in. I was in aged care, palliative and end of life. I then lost my mum last July and I just couldn’t do it anymore. The job just drained me, it killed my soul. I’m now working in a cardiologist clinic, no shift work just Monday to Thursday 0800 - 1600 hours. The difference I feel is amazing. I left my friends but I needed to do it for myself. I saw your video and this resonates with me! I started on med surg unit and at the beginning I was optimistic and putting my 100% with this 1st job as a new nurse especially during the pandemic. By 6 months I felt so drained and my anxiety levels elevated to max. I cried coming in for work and going back home. I didn’t have the support and teamwork I needed. I felt like drowning. When my quality of life, mentality, and happiness went down. That was my call to put in my 2 week notice. No one is expected be a role model. We are human. I wish I had the support group at work that many say they have….but sadly there was no team work in my unit. I did have a period of giving up nursing but decided to take a different route and now I’m doing nursing but outside of the hospital. I’m happier and less stressed.

Hey Madi! Been following your journey for the past few years - I graduated at the same time as you in Cle. I worked nights in a critical care environment during my practicum & soon realized that the stress of this schedule/unit ruined my mental health, although I LOVED this patient population. Because of this, I started as a new grad in outpatient while all my peers started in the hospital. I was fearful at first about doing something different and “not being resilient enough” - however, I could not fathom staying in such a dark mental space for any longer. Now, one year later, I’m making double what I would have made inpatient with less than half the stress. My free time is finally my own time, and not just recovery time. It can be daunting to make such a huge change, but your mental and physical health will thank you! Your ultimate obligation is to take care of YOURSELF - you are not letting anyone down by leaving the hospital, but rather promoting your own health and well-being, which is an admirable quality of a good nurse. ❤ sending love for where your journey takes you!

As a new grad ED nurse, I related to this video so much. I’ve worked in this ED for almost two years, one year as a tech and one year as a nurse. I’ve worked nights for 4 years since I started years ago inpatient. It worked great for my schedule then, but now as an RN with days off and no school, it is so hard. So so hard working nights, and being able to show up for yourself after shifts, for your family and friends. I asked my management team to switch from a mid shift to a day mid shift (3p-3A to 11a-11p) so I can be on a more normal sleep schedule. Thank you for sharing how you feel. It makes me feel less a lone knowing that I’m not the only one feeling the same feelings. It doesn’t make you weak, it makes you so so strong for being able to recognize that this schedule is not for you. I’ve dropped down 1 day from my FTE to 0.75 and so far it’s helped a little, but my next step will be dropping more days or quitting if I have to. Here for you girl! You’re never alone!!!

I've been Nursing 26 years... this is normal but never stay somewhere that causes 😢 feelings of sadness.
Your well-being is priority. I now suffer from MDD and PTSD.
All the deaths, short staffing and Upper management demands took a toll on me.

Dang...my ptsd kicked in 😅 I literally was there at one point. I was burnt out as an LPN. The covid era was horrible for me. I worked at a nursing home...30 residents to one nurse. It got to the point where I would cry before heading into work and being on call had me anxious. I was depressed and would sit in my car by the lake or sit in my car for awhile before heading inside. There was a moment too where I had hoped that I would of gotten into a car accident or fall down the stairs so I wouldn't have to go in. When I got covid and was out for 11 days I was happy cause it felt like a vacation 😅 I did not want to go back. I went from this positive, fun, down to earth person to this negative person that I didn't even recognize. I left nursing, got my CDL, and became a truck driver. I been doing it for 2 yrs now with my husband. We been to all 48 states. Just need Hawaii and Alaska. It has been a great experience. I have no regrets. I needed a break from nursing. I'm back to my old self. The end of this year I'll be going back to nursing. This time around, I'll be taking care of myself physically and mentally. I'm putting myself first. I also don't plan to work at nursing homes or the hospital. I do want to go back to school for my RN but I am also looking into the ultrasound tech program. It's hard cause I do love nursing. I love seeing my patients get better. But I'm scared to go back to that dark place I was once in. Thank you for this video. Know that you are not alone. ❤

Thank you for sharing your nursing journey with us. I’ve been watching you before I got into nursing school I’ve since graduated and started working night shift in the hospital. At the end of the day you have to HAVE TO do what’s best with you. I understand how you’re feeling completely. Night shift , nursing in general is so hard and so draining and it can totally consume your life. You will get through this and find your way in the world of nursing. We all will!

Girl I needed to see this! I just started in a medsurg unit as a new grad, I have eight months in. In three different occasions at change of shift I was given a pt that was declining and were full code. It ended in two rapids and an actual code, right in the beginning of my shifts. Due to these experiences, I just pray to God before the beginning of my shift that I don’t receive an expired pt at change of shift. I also became very anxious driving on my way to work and noticed this was a red flag for me. My coworkers who are seasoned nurses even say oh “I’m sorry you went through this etc etc..” I think God has a purpose for everything. Even though those experiences were horrible for me as a new grad, it made me stronger as a nurse. That is the only positive spin I give it😞😔

I think leaving to pursue something that will actually make you happy is the wisest decision you could ever make. Hope you’re having a great day?

I feel like so many people in the medical field can relate to your experience. I worked as a Central Sterile Supply Technician recently and only lasted a few months because it became incredibly overwhelming. I didn’t feel supported enough at all and I felt that some of my coworkers disliked me. I think a lot needs to change in the medical field when it comes to employee appreciation. When employees feel like their effort is recognized and they’re humanized, they’re more likely to perform better. You’re not alone! I plan to apply to nursing school soon and I worry about things like this all the time. I know it’ll be worth it though

Life is hard as I’ve been a Combat Medic in the Army for over 25 years and got to goto school and become a PA. If your in a job that doesn’t make you happy, leave it! But, now days all these young women and men think the world owes you a loving and that RUclips is going to make you rich, well, guess what? You need to stop worrying about your RUclips Subs and get your head out of your butt and do the job you where hired to do! Instead your on RUclips crying like a little girl so you can get more viewers and you want to have work as much because you think RUclips is your way out of having to work like the rest of us and make a living doing what you love. You say you love Nursing? Really?? Looks like to me your just looking to make videos to get more viewers!!! God wants you to be happy and stop being a little crybaby Gen Z’er!! Get it together and work like the rest of us and quite thinking the world owes you a living!! Life is hard and you can’t just quite when the going gets rough and tough!!
More of you Gen Z’ers need to be in the military and then you’d see what it is to work and not be so freaking self-centered!!!!
Stop for crying and do your job like all of us do everyday!! Your a member of the crying, whining and feel bad for me Generation that is self-centered you can’t see the forest for the trees!!! Get a life and get off RUclips and work for once in your sorry ass life!!!

You are not alone! I'm an L&D nurse as well and felt the same way after working nights for a year and half. I lost so much weight and felt so depressed and anxious constantly. Switching to days really helped me reconnect with nursing and realize why I love my job so much! Some days are harder than other of course but nights can really take a toll on your body! DO NOT beat yourself up what you are feeling is so normal! I hope you can take some time off and try to develop a more normal schedule! I know you will feel so much better!

This! There's absolutely nothing wrong with switching shifts or units or entire hospitals or fields of nursing. That's totally the norm in nursing & I wish there was more out there for new grads to realize that so they don't feel so terrible about their first job being so rough or horrible. First jobs in any professiona are hard but ESPECIALLY nursing.

I used to work nights and it does affect your mental health in many ways. Babe, you are so strong for posting this and being honest with yourself. Just by hearing you talk about your job I can totally tell that you absolutely love your job. I can almost 98% tell that you are struggling with anxiety and depression in regards to perfectionism. I am telling you this because I struggle with anxiety and depression. I currently work as a Medical Assistant in pediatrics and I can totally resonate with your emotions. I absolutely love my job but there are days when I have trouble handling the stress. Not because it’s hard, but because I have anxiety. I have trouble sometimes looking at people in the eyes, sometimes I get easily overstimulated/anxious by babies crying, sometimes my hands shake even though all I am doing it applying a bandaid on a patient. I get anxious when I look at the Doctors in the eyes. Sometimes I feel as if I am the one who makes the most most smallest mistakes. I am always asking questions and sometimes I forget so I have to ask again. I feel like I am bothering my coworkers because I am always asking questions. Sometimes I feel like I am not doing enough or I am not charismatic enough. I would advise you to go easy on yourself because you are doing amazing. I am currently attending counseling for my anxiety. I would strongly advise you to do the same. It is a tremendous help. - ❤ Julissa

Maddie! You said yourself (in a previous vlog) do not be afraid to change nursing jobs. I’m an RN and this is the same advise I give to my daughter (she’s also an RN) and any other nurses!
Nursing is a career not a job! Also, night shift is very stressful and hard on nurses. On call sucks. You do not have to live your life this way.
Don’t be so hard on yourself. Move on to something less stressful! Heck, I left bedside completely and am now traveling as an RN, Case Mgr! I over doubled my salary and have the flexibility I could only dream of.
You are doing a great job. Stop overthinking this, move forward and be happy!
Don’t be so hard on yourself.

You have no idea how bad I needed to see this video. I am in the same exact boat - just hit my 1 year mark in the PICU and I’ve been on nights. I love my job and my patients so much and my coworkers have become family - but my mental health and physical health has been put to the side for my job and I am trying to make the best decision for myself and get on a normal schedule at a new job. My heart is broken because this was my dream - but You are so right - you have to take care of yourself FIRST!!
I’ve been following you from the beginning and seeing your growth is so inspiring. I genuinely wish you all of the best, you deserve it!! Thank you for being so vulnerable and know, you are not alone. 💗
