I have 2012 Ford Explorer base model and I can’t connect to my phone, I was told I need to change maybe the apim module so I bought one online from the State and shipped to Canada and changed it but, still same thing. Can’t even use USB to listen music. I wish you can help me out with this problem. Non of the buttons working except the radio button and cd button Ford dealership is asking $1200 for the part and labour which I think it’s not worth paying that amount of money. I can only use radio music and cd music.
I’m trying to upgrade to nav from non nav and I can’t find any thing on this in forums and here Facebook. I got a radio, bezel, and screen from marketplace. Would I need the whole apim/wires harnesses from another donor car to make the nav work? Then I’m assuming taking to the dealer to get reprogrammed. My car is equipped already with Sirius and dual climate, pretty much every bell and whistle besides nav. I know that going aftermarket is easier and what not. But I’m wanting to keep factory look and sound and everything. I may end up seeing if I can just use the new bezel from the nav car and go with a double din touch screen into it? Any insight is appreciated!
I have an aftermarket radio. Can I remove the sync module? My steering wheel controls never work right with my radio even with adapter. Would removing the sync module allow me to use steering wheel controls? Curious😊
Most aftermarket stereos have a steering wheel adapter that plugs in to allow you to continue to use the wheel controls. It may depend on your stereo if one is available. The SYNC module is essentially for Bluetooth, so removing it won't affect your aftermarket radio.
I'm trying to figure out whether I need a new APIM, or new touchscreen LCD replacement(Sony) unit on my 2010, before I tear things down. Unlike others, my screen has turned all white. Occasionally, I get a scrambled image on the display and rarely the display comes up properly. Usually, when a scrambled image appears, it fades back to all white. It's a really weird issue. Battery disconnect didn't help and the fuses are fine. Interestingly, everything else functions fine....radio/bluetooth/USB/ect work perfectly.
Wow that is weird. Usually a good rule of thumb is rule out the cheaper part first. If you can source a replacement from a salvage yard I'd try the screen first
@@CrowtownAuto It was just the screen. I bought a replacement online for under $100 and it worked perfectly. Only issue with this one is it has a bit of a yellow tint to it. Too bad all of them on Ebay don't have pictures of them turned on to see the display quality. That said, I'll take a working screen over a dead one.
@@CrowtownAuto okay i’ve read like every forum they al hit and miss. i need a new battery right now so we’ll see if that fixes it, if not i’ll be coming back to this video
@@CrowtownAuto I think I'm in the same boat with my '10 Fusion Sport (without nav). Bluetooth, Aux, and USB don't work (didn't check the center console cigarette lighter though). It seems like it'd be cheaper to buy an aftermarket receiver and just leave the APIM unplugged. Is there any downside to that strategy? What else is APIM used for? (I'm assuming I can re-use the USB/Aux in the glovebox with the new receiver head, though maybe that's not a safe assumption...)
The apim runs all the audio sources for the car. If you replace the factory stereo with an aftermarket, conceivably you'd be bypassing the apim. Car audio isn't a specialty of mine, so I couldn't confirm.
@@CrowtownAuto Thank you friend. I will try to buy a used module and see if it works. Thanks for the tip ! Helped me a lot ! At the dealer this module is extremely expensive !!!
Thanks for your help, great 👍
where is localised?

A reset of the APIM (off button and forward - or right for 5 seconds or more) would possibly fix the issue. Give it a try.
@@CrowtownAutoI didn’t understand, wym? How you do that? Disconnecting the module like you did on your video?
Does anyone know a good place to get a reprogrammed by VIN APIM for a ford explorer 2012 sync 2?

When your changing this do you disconnect the battery?
I would but there wasn't one in my case

Am I able to reset the apim on a 2012 fusion? Or do I just gotta replace it?
There is a reset option on Ford vehicles. I just saw a YT vid on the procedure if you search it out. Hope it helps.
my cars usb, cig lighter (only in center console) , aux, bluetooth don’t work, fairly convinced it’s the apim, what else could it be?
sounds like the APIM for sure

Did you ever fix this? How did it go? I have the same issues.
My Sync is muted and keeps restarting all the time. It also gives the message connect error see dealer. Could this module be a friend? Thanks
sounds like an error in the sync module. if you find an inexpensive one I'd try that before unloading your wallet at the dealer.

Do I need to reprogram the sync module when I replace it? I got a 2012 fusion.
Yes, it'll need programmed for the features your model is equipped with based on your VIN number
@@CrowtownAuto Do I take it to a Ford dealer to get it reprogrammed?
Either a ford dealer or a reputable shop with the necessary equipment. I'd call around.
