    This video was extremely helpful, thank you! I sent my ACM in to a company that fixes them. This video helped me remove the ACM and reinstall it. It also helped me decide not to buy a used ACM as I don't want to mess around with programming the new one.

    My daughter's 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid was having the exact same issue you described here. The AM and FM functions did not work and there was no sound whatsoever. I removed the ACM and used the part number to ensure I got the same part from a Ford wrecking yard. I got the part for $100, installed it in 15 minutes and everything is back the way it was. THANK YOU for the video!

    Your video was a godsend...saved me a pile of money since 1)my wife's 2014 Fusion SE had the exact same symptoms and 2)the ACM was available refurbished for a mere $185 from JEGS online. I was unable to get ForScan to program the ACM but everything appears to be working. My wife claims the Sirius radio presets are not working but perhaps a local shop can program the unit if that is the issue. Thank you so much!!

    • @CarShopTalk
      @CarShopTalk  Год назад +2

      You’re welcome! The as-built data is probably the problem with the Sirius. I think a lot of the as-built data is for configuration of satelite, and they usually set satelite related codes if the as-built data isn’t programmed, but usually everything else works in the mean time.

    How much does diagnosing cost on average?

    • @CarShopTalk
      @CarShopTalk  3 года назад +1

      It varies. Most shops do a flat rate of some type, usually based on the shop rate, and vary quite a bit across the country. Usually double on the coasts or larger cities compared to more rural areas. Usually it’s roughly based on 1 hour. That’s ridiculously high if all they do is pull codes, but assuming they pull codes, check powers and grounds, network circuits and operation and actually diagnose it rather than just throwing a part at it.

    • @CarShopTalk
      @CarShopTalk  2 года назад

      It can be done by independent shops, or an individual if they have the right equipment. An ACM could probably be done with forscan. A speaker issue could be a problem with an amplifier as well if it’s equipped. By voice module, if you mean a sync module / APIM I’ve been told you can do it with forscan and a flash drive. I tried it once and it didn’t seem to work, but honestly I was in hurry and just used an IDS to perform a PMI when it didn’t work.

    How do I know if my ACM is shot?

    • @CarShopTalk
      @CarShopTalk  Год назад

      That’s always kind of tricky call and can be a vehicle specific question. No audio output is a good symptom, but some vehicles have digital audio processing modules or amps after the ACM that could be the problem, or there’s always the possibility of a blown fuse or no power to any of those. Things to check, does it have codes in it? Does it pass an on demand test? Does it pass a network test or communicate? Definitely has been a surge of ACM failures this year.

    My 2014 fusion is doing the same thing except I was driving on a very bumpy road and all of a sudden the radio started blasting and after I parked it the sound is off again. What's wrong?

    • @CarShopTalk
      @CarShopTalk  Год назад

      If it comes on after hitting a bump I would think a loose connection or a loose pin in a connector, but I’d want to see it do it more than once before I would think it wasn’t just a coincidence

    • @CarShopTalk
      @CarShopTalk  10 месяцев назад +1

      You can install a new or used acm at home. Without a laptop to configure it, it’s kind of a roll of the dice if everything will work. You can download and install Forscan for free and get the two month free trial license to configure it. I’m pretty sure the code reading feature works even without a license. Really the only thing you would still need is a cable or wireless obd adapter.

    I foolishly bought a 1st year model, a 2013 Fusion S. When I finally started checking out the controls I realized that the CD player wouldn't accept CDs. It started working on the way to the dealership. I told them it seemed to be working, but they still looked at it. Now, the CD works but the radio only produces static. All the controls work, it just acts like it needs an antenna.

      @@CarShopTalk I used to work at Delco Electronics in Kokomo, Indiana. It did become part of Delphi 2 years after I started working there. I was hired as an Electrician. I was that before at Western Electric in Indianapolis where they made telephones. I did mostly maintenance on manufacturing equipment and that is what helped me secure employment at Delco after AT&T was broken up. At Delco, I spent my 23 years in the Audio dept where they made radios, radio circuit boards, radio amplifiers and radio tuners. It was amazing how much went into making those parts. Testing stuff, hot , then cold , then room temperatures. We would do that till we were making 98% good parts. We would test plain circuit boards with X RAY, would test the boards after solder paste was screen printed on each board. Why populate a board if the solder paste was not good. We would test large chip parts before placing them on the boards. We would test each board after solder was complete. We would X RAY each board to check for good solder joints. We did all that to make good products and we did make good stuff. Does Ford have a problem. I'd say they do after reading about so many similar issues with the ACM product. That's sad, considering how competitive car sales is.

      @@UNITED2009100 Theres definitely a couple of model years that seem to be prone to failure, and then a lot of other models I’ve never seen an ACM fail in. Seems like they could have / should have built better ACM’s for three or four model years there.

      @@CarShopTalk I always felt it was CRAZY what we did at GM. EVERY model had their own radio, their own so called monsoon amplifier and even different tuner. We made all those different products on one line which meant changing over to different model stuff almost every day. Change overs took almost an entire shift doing all sorts of testing before running products. I always hoped they would be doing a change over during my shift so I wouldn't have anything to do. That actually was the stupid part. Why not make them all the same but with a different program blown in. That way each model would have their own thing while no one could swap model parts later. I went through a Honda manufacturing plant in Greenfield, IN one time. They were making anti lock brake modules. They were making supplemental restraint modules or air bag modules and radio modules there. Each product had it's own line and every Honda got the same modules. No change overs. How smart are they!

      @@UNITED2009100 there’s a lot of things like that, that I think they could consolidate it down to two or three parts instead of the twenty five part numbers they list. The sad thing is quality control has become so much worse over the last two years. Brand new parts in the box misbuilt or just garbage. It should be interesting to see what the next 10 years brings. There’s a lot of changes happening really quickly in the industry right now.
