@@theevolvingworld I'll have to let my fiance know. He's the one looking for a scooter as a cheaper way to travel to work, compared to him usually taking the city bus. If you don't mind my curiosity, would you say that buying an extra battery is a good idea when it comes to this scooter? Does the scooter burn its battery within a few days of normal use for you?
The base model ES2 has the first battery which is enclosed within the metal stem piece. The ES4 adds a second battery which is the black plastic casing on the vertical stem piece. That's what costs $200 more, adds 5 lbs., increases power, & doubles the range to about 20 miles real world (advertised at 28). Those are the two factory options. When you operate the ES4, both batteries are in unison & discharge equally, i.e. when at 50% they are both at 50%, not one at 100% & the other at 0%. Depending on how many miles per use you anticipate would determine which one is right for you. I wish there was even bigger battery version or a way to swap both batteries out quickly. When you "fre roll" with the scoter it will regenerative break automaticly. If you use the break "pedal" it will drain battery to stop the motor fast. Breaking hard with an electric engine works by controller shift form AC to DC creating a static magnetic field slowing down the enigen. the higher volt used the faster it will stop. So to regenerative breaking just let it roll.
That's sounds fun on ultra smooth surfaces & more power to get up hills. Just be careful on the street with rocks, twigs, etc.! How much less range do you get?

Yes, when it's "off", you can ride it like any other kick scooter. If you are starting on top of steep hill, you can turn it "on" & regen brake down to charge the battery.

That's about right to the limit. Depends on hills, weight of rider, & mostly speed. Average about 10-12 MPH should be easy. Average 18 MPH @ full throttle, not going to make it. Hope it works out!
Assuming you started with 100% (five solid bars) and you were going max speed in "sport mode", maybe with a headwind, in cooler weather, it would be about right. One solid bar & the second flashing is about 30% or about another 7km. Drop it down out of "sport" to "standard mode". Also, try wearing less baggy clothes for less wind resistance. Does this have solid tires? I have a Xiaomi and it gets flat tires quite often as I ride on bumpy roads quite often. Thinking about switching to this. Thanks~
You can get solid tyres for the Xiaomi. I did. Unless you have the proper tools, experience, and a place to do it, don't try and change them yourself. I did, and failed. Had to get the fitters at work to do it. The ride gets a LOT bumpier though. But, no more punctures.
They call it external battery but not the type that is easy to swap by click or snap. It is attached with the screws to the mainframe, built in battery.
No, the ES2 is the same as the ES4 but with half the battery, a top speed of 15.5 MPH vs 18.6 MPH, & 700 watts of power vs 800. The ES3 is the bigger battery version of the ES1. No: cruise control, rear suspension, under lights, taillights, & 15.5 MPH top speed with only 600 watts of power.
That's easy. Your in "speed limit mode" which limits it to 9.5 MPH. Double click the power button, you'll see an "S" that's "standard mode" about 16 MPH. Double click again and you'll see a red "S" that "sport mode" about 19 MPH. Enjoy!
That sucks, sounds like you got a ES3. It's probably doesn't have sport mode or cruise control either. They are pretty sneaky at making them all look so similar.
Mine too. I think you got what I did which was a version they made for Lime and Lime backed out so they had an oversupply. I don't mind the non folding or non underlight; however, mine is now only going 19kph and I have reconnected the battery, rebooted the thing, and the speed is still slooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww. Any ideas?
Yes, you can. But, only in "speed limit mode" from approx. 3-9 MPH. Note: that's about the ONLY way you will ever get near the advertised 28 mile range. Expect more like 18 mile range in standard mode. Even less in Sport mode.
@@theevolvingworld How much range can you get out of it with the extra battery? I'm considering buying this scooter because it's seems the best option for me (price/range&quality wise)
I've ridden through some moderate muddy puddles and the splashguards work. The user manual says: (section 9) Do not ride the scooter in the rain. Also, Do not charge if the cable or port is wet.
Do you mean the handlebars? Yes, over time mine loosened up & all four screws were half way out (very wobbly). I tighten them all down. It's much better, now. If they come loose again, I'll use some threadlock like loctite.
I’m around the same weight as you and mine is fine. I just tighten up the suspension to carry my extra 10kg. You’ll need an 8mm hex to tighten the suspension.
I'm a bit heavier than u by a few kgs and es2+ extra battery gets me up some hills at 20km/h speed. I was struggling with my old 300w novoku one but the segway is great. I've done about 125km and no problems with my weight so far.

I don't recommend upgrading firmware to v.0.1.4.7 because I had problems with my max speed going from 30 km per hour to 26 km per hour after the update.
Yes, the external battery comes off & you can buy more. It weighs about 3.3 lbs. The BMS balances both packs as one, though. Stay tuned to the channel. I have plans to do a tear-down of the external battery & modify it to double the capacity. Maybe 6.6 lbs instead of 3.3.
I am looking for a scooter just to use between work and home. In my country this one is around 660 USD.. The Xiaomi m365 is around 350 dollars. Have someone tried them both, is almost double the price worth it for this one?
M365 is comparable to the Segway es2 which is less range round trip.....the es3 and es4 have an extra battery for a greater 28mile range and regenerative braking.....air filled on m365 vs solid tires on segway which means no popped tires. I have the es3 I think it's a great solid scooter worth the money

Yes, it's one of the advantages. Mine's been running flawlessly at 300 plus miles.
You can get solid tyres for the Xiaomi. I did. Unless you have the proper tools, experience, and a place to do it, don't try and change them yourself. I did, and failed. Had to get the fitters at work to do it. The ride gets a LOT bumpier though. But, no more punctures.
Does the scooter come with the external battery or is it seperate?
They call it external battery but not the type that is easy to swap by click or snap. It is attached with the screws to the mainframe, built in battery.
Anyone please respond is the es3 exactly the same as es4 but without the double battery
How can you make it go 19mph? I have one and it only goes 10mph. It was embarrassing.
That's easy. Your in "speed limit mode" which limits it to 9.5 MPH. Double click the power button, you'll see an "S" that's "standard mode" about 16 MPH. Double click again and you'll see a red "S" that "sport mode" about 19 MPH. Enjoy!
@@theevolvingworld thanks
How much
Mine doesn't have the underglow or the folding... Wtf
Any ideas?
Smooth
Thanks.
Does anyone know how to but the scooter in MPH
In the app.
Do you have to keep your phone connected to drive it fast?
No you don't once it's in sport mode you're good to go 🙌🏾
Can you set a top speed with the app?
Yes, you can. But, only in "speed limit mode" from approx. 3-9 MPH. Note: that's about the ONLY way you will ever get near the advertised 28 mile range. Expect more like 18 mile range in standard mode. Even less in Sport mode.
@@theevolvingworld How much range can you get out of it with the extra battery? I'm considering buying this scooter because it's seems the best option for me (price/range&quality wise)
That is the" real world" range with the extra battery. I'd expect half that with the standard model (ES2).
the ES4 doesn't exist tho.. its just a ES2 with battery.. same with ES1, they should be called ES3
are you certain my friend the es4 is just an es2 they are trying to cheat us can the es2 use the strap on battery.
From what I understand
The es4 is just the es2 with the extra battery.
The es1 in different however because it doesn't have shocks
This should clear things up a little nis-store.com/news-and-actions/ninebot-by-segway-es2-and-es4-what-the-difference/
'It not quite an electric bike' good observation 🤣
i commute about 21 miles a day to work on mine
Mr does it waterproof?
I've ridden through some moderate muddy puddles and the splashguards work. The user manual says: (section 9) Do not ride the scooter in the rain. Also, Do not charge if the cable or port is wet.
The Evolving World does your scooter ES4 headsets wobbled around? My es4 headsets wobbled a lot! Feel and while riddling.
Do you mean the handlebars? Yes, over time mine loosened up & all four screws were half way out (very wobbly). I tighten them all down. It's much better, now. If they come loose again, I'll use some threadlock like loctite.
@@theevolvingworld the stem on the bottom that connects the headset and stem join. it like wobble left and right
So it uses battery to brake?
No, when you brake with the front motor, I think it regenerates back some power
Segway also has a partner company with products a little cheaper..
Jodi d which one
@@vincent6382 Xiaomi is segway
I like ya, u seem like a good guy
Isnt the ES4 made to drive 30mph
No just 18mph
im around 110 kg so is it posible that the board can break in half? 😂
User's Manual says: max payload is 100 kg (220 lbs.)
I've done about 125km and no problems with my weight so far.
i actually dont know how heavy i am because last time i was 110 now im around 120 kg or less so i ordered the es4 but im to scary that it break in two pieces 😂 And really that far? is it so strong then
@@spooky9067 I'm about 113kg and sometimes I have my laptop in my bag which makes it about 115kg for scooter to carry and I've had no problems with my board. It has not broken yet and I don't think it would unless I did jumped on it. I don't recommend upgrading firmware to v.0.1.4.7 because I had problems with my max speed going from 30 km per hour to 26 km per hour after the update.
Does the external battery come off and can you buy another external battery for more mileage?
Yes, the external battery comes off & you can buy more. It weighs about 3.3 lbs. The BMS balances both packs as one, though.
Stay tuned to the channel. I have plans to do a tear-down of the external battery & modify it to double the capacity. Maybe 6.6 lbs instead of 3.3.
Niiiiiiiiice👍
I am looking for a scooter just to use between work and home. In my country this one is around 660 USD.. The Xiaomi m365 is around 350 dollars. Have someone tried them both, is almost double the price worth it for this one?
M365 is comparable to the Segway es2 which is less range round trip.....the es3 and es4 have an extra battery for a greater 28mile range and regenerative braking.....air filled on m365 vs solid tires on segway which means no popped tires. I have the es3 I think it's a great solid scooter worth the money
@@inegma29 is it still going and is it reliable
This is not a good value scooter at all, look at the zero 8 or fluid free ride horizon, much better, 500 watt motor 20+ miles in range, and has decent suspension unlike the ninebots.
Well ur comment made me feel better because I literally just purchased a fluid free ride horizon and this guys review made me start questioning before it even got here! Lol Thanks
JDavisOfficial ofc! Yeah the horizon smokes this thing, trust me.
I KNOW WHERE THIS IS its in factoria bellevue🤩
Correct. For bonus points: do you know where the opening walk around sequence was shot at?
The Evolving World is that west seattle?.. harbor island!
@@clashanddash Nope! Not even close.
@@clashanddash Same state though.
Segway makes absolute junk! Customer service is almost non existent. I recently bought a new ES4 Kickscooter that lasted 10 days before it died. After a month I was finally sent a replacement, which also no longer even turns on. Currently trying to get refunded, but being ignored by the "company". Good luck to you if you choose to buy one of their products.
Costco has them for 579. I just saved you 200+ dollars.
Is it the es4
Or is it just the es2?
Micah Vincent es4 with extra battery. In black.

Sheesh, you're right
Saved me a ton of money

audio quality is horrible, what mic are you using?
Great video, just picked up the ninebot es4 for the wife and love it, check out our review and ride videos. Thanks!
A complete mess, looks cool but the ride quality and breaking is hell.
This electric scooter is great for fat guys like me.
Tires are not good looking
