SEGWAY ES2 vs ES4 vs MAX REVIEW | What's the BEST Ninebot Electric Scooter?

- UPDATE. After spending more and more time riding the max and not living on the third floor any more, I like the max more. My es4 started to have issues with getting up to speed off the line. It would slowly get to 12 mph and take a few blocks to finally get up to max speed. That’s just not acceptable.

It would slowly get to 12 mph and take a few blocks to finally get up to max speed. That’s just not acceptable.
If you can afford the Max and can carry it up a few stairs, then I’d go with the max.
I purchased an ES4 two weeks ago and it ran at like 29kph for a couple of days and now it only goes 19kph
I just went through 2 es4s that had error code 42. I returned both and picked up the Max. I seen a lot of people here in NYC riding the Max and I asked every single one of them how has it been holding up and everyone one of them had told me that they've been having no issues. That Es4 external battery sucks! Stick with the Max.
Thanks for the review. My hubby is getting me the Max. So excited to use it going to work.
is ithe max still good?
Executor. I did a review of the MAX and I am really enjoying it
I SCOOT RAW.

what does this mean 😭😭
No dual card slots, 2/10
ES4 has dual batteries tho.

19:20 When the battery is low and the scooter slows down, it's not a feature to conserve the battery. It's the fact that battery voltage falls as the battery is depleted, and the lower the voltage, the lower the current in the motor. Some people even 'mod' their scooters with higher voltage batteries and controllers to get faster speeds (though it should be done responsibly, since it may overheat the motor, among other issues)
Tank you for the review. I find it pretty useful!
I bought the ES4 two years ago, I love everything about it. I have now driven about 750 kilometers with it and have no problems except some sqirky sounds. That can be fixed.
And with the extra battery you can climb steeper hills and take more weight.
It is still quick and fast as it has always been.
Hey, would you still suggest it as a scooter for other people?
Are there any defects in it you found? Is it true what people say that the max speed gets lower after a few time?
someone no defects and still drives as fast as ever :) I will defenetly buy one again in case something happens to it.
@@dConceptdk ride the max or the f40 and you will realise the es4 is a like a toy in comparison, i just got the f40 after a year of the es4, I could never ever go back now

wow, this vid came just in time! i was suffering trying to find a video with these comparisons... i'm going with the es4 too!
Do not get the es4. After a week or month you will have battery issues. I went through 2 and returned 2. Getting the Max because I did more research. Good luck!
I've had my es4 for 6 months and no problem with it

Great review, clear and complete !! it's changes a little, it's cool ! \m/
I would like the mention that if you're using the app for the MAX, there's actually a button that turns the back light on, it is NOT a reflector. But it's not a brake light, it's either on or off, in addition, they dont require you to pick up speed to start the motor, that is just the default setting within the app, you can start from a standstill if you want to do so.
Great video... so timely cause I was at the purchase point. Interesting about your choice for ES4.... can’t fault you on that one. Weight and collapsed size was a serious consideration. I went with the MAX.... wanted better stability and range. Mostly cause I will be using it when I am up in Montreal next summer and our roads are worse that your roads in Philly. Hopefully the bigger wheels will keep me from doing an endo 😝. Till then I will have it in Dahlonega Ga where hills will be my challenge. Will be interesting to see how it does there! Thanks again!
Thank you for the review, it's just what i needed
Hey there Jared, loved your video. Awesome review. Just letting you know that the Max has a rear light which flashes when the breaks are applied. I know the comparison chart says reflector, however, I have two of the Max Scooters... They both have a light and flash when breaks applied. :)
you can also set it to always be on in the app and it still flashes when u brake
You read my mind as I look at the rear LIGHT on my Max. 😏👍
@@ThePsycotrip yup, works great on my Max. Not crazy about the app but hey, it works basically.
Great review. I loved how you gave a clear and precise choice at end.
Thanks, you answered all the questions I had. Now all I have to do is decide on price between the 4 and the max.👍
It does make sense why the throttle and max speed gets lower when the battery is lower. It does it to preserve the battery and still get you where you need to go. Like a Tesla as I get down to 10% left in the battery it limits the speed to help keep the batteries preserved. Most companies will do this to help alleviate warranty calls because the battery sucks.
12:45 The Max does have a brake light!
Thanks for the great revue! If i could subscribe three times i would. Good job mate!
I was thinking to es2....
wondering if you switch off or low power are you able to still use it as a normal scooter ?

Thank you for the video. The distance of 40 miles is cool. Something to consider from what you said in your video: the battery seems to get weaker as the charge gets lower so - the max will have zippier power for a longer distance. How does the traction compare between the models? If you are taking corners, do the pneumatic tires perform better? Do they slide?
Nicely done! Very helpful, the most helpful review I could find actually. Thanks
3 min content in almost 1/2 hour... briliant...
Almost 😄
Well done, this is the best and only(?) comparison afaik. I hope Ninebot is super happy with this one.
THANK YOU so much for making this video!! I was looking for this!
Hi! Is the Max comes with a hook for backpacks, or is it possible to mount one on it? Thanks
Another thing: Why do they not mount a handlebar to the front, to be able to pull them (especially the heavy Max), like a trolley bag? It is not complicated, dear engineers!
I know you said the es2 is for kids but I need this for small distances between busses. Occasionally carry through the bus tunnel. Do you still think the es4 is the better option considering my needs? I'm 160 pounds if that matters.

Which would you recommend for a student who lives 1.5-3 miles from their college and work? It won’t be heavy traffic. Im thinking the es2 so I can charge it in class or at work.
Classic. Didn’t know I wanted one until after I saw this video haha
Just ordered a es4 thanks your video was what i was looking for well done !!
did you received the scooter. how long did take the shipping and delivering?
You're the only person to mention how to get it going, I swear I was trying to get it working indoor and was getting mad it doesnt work - spend an hour searching only to get an anwser here, thank you! (1st time user).

Thanks so much! I’m going to get the es2 for my gf going about a mile or two to work in college! Appreciate the review!

Thank you for your time and effort for making this video. Video is very detailed and conclusion is really helpful. Keep up doing helpful stuff like this. 👍🏽😁😁😁 Although I live in 1st floor, I’d prefer to have ES4 because it’s handy. 28 miles would be good enough for me
The best comparison video I’ve ever watched by far!! thank you very much for this, watching all the way from the UK🇬🇧
Did you consider the mini segway vs the scooter when choosing a people mover?
aside from the external battery, is there any different between the es4 and the es2 or is the es4 essentially just an es2 but with a battery?
This video was amazing and very descriptive. I recently purchased an ES2 since I work construction and alot of times have to park far away from the job site. I haven't received mine yet but atm the ES2 was cheap enough to give it a try. I may in the future purchase the max once spring comes around
Great review. One of the best I’ve seen. I’m a small guy at only 90 pounds. I just ordered the ES4 and I think that’ll be perfect for me. I just felt the max would be way to heavy for me to carry around.
does the range of ES4 change with additional battery pack or is 28miles max with the external battery pack?
I just bought Max’s the other day for me and my wife. We live them. It more stable and sturdy than the other 2. If anybody is interested in buying one of these, go with the Max 🙌🏾
I didn’t like the risk of a flat personally
Jared Polin that’s understandable. Just finished watching the video and I live in the ‘burbs so the streets are much smoother and I have a garage. I live on the 3rd floor so if I didn’t have one, I would have went with the ES4 as well. Great video 👍🏾👍🏾
*we love them
I sold My es4 and bought the Max and trust me its a much better ride the 4 hit any were its not comfy and also it pulls dirt up in it alot and when Ride in water all that water go up on your back the mud gaurd is crap and all the weight is on the front of the 4 and after awhile it ll start make this funny noise 😳
can't you scoot with it if no power ? like a normal scooter ?
I use the ES4 as a commuter (~8mi r/t) in addition to the metro rail. I use the escalator in the stations with no issue of others being able to pass me on the steps. With most of the weight (95%ish) of the ES4 in the steering column, (for me) it's easier to balance on the step without having to fold/carry it. If the escalator stops, then it's easier to just pick up by the column and carry unfolded the rest of the way. Of note, I think if the front tire is resting against prior step on the escalator, as the step begins to recede, it will detect enough resistance from the tire and stop the escalator. I've had my ES4 for ~4 years and have noticed times that it doesn't get up to full speed (Red S mode) on a full charge or has slight surges at lower speed. If I stop, turn off the ES4, restart, and begin riding again, the problem goes away. The software is all current on the ES4. While I would love to have larger tires, the form of the ES4, in my humble opinion, is easier to negotiate on public transportation than the Max or other larger scooters, given the speed and features of the ES4.
I was thinking of getting the ES2 for budget reasons. I will have to go up a slight hill though and was worried as I heard it’s iffy on even smaller inclines. Can anyone confirm or deny?
Definitely an “I Scoot Raw” shirt coming out in the near future.
I got max the other day. Fun thing. Battery lasts quite a decent amount.
I think Fro just like saying shaft Doesn’t the handlebars are the handgrips come out like the original razor scooter it folds like a razor scooter?
I have an es3 from costco and it ride pretty well until i update the firmware and i lost 3 mile per hours. I use to be able to hit 18 mph now it is capped at 15 mph for better breaking
thank you, sir, for the review for each! much appreciated..
Was great one..
Can you remove the extra battery on the es4?
What are the pros and cons of purchasing the MAX (or any of these) on the Segway website or on Amazon?????
the MAX does have a rear break light.. thank you for the review
I am 50 and got the MAX, it's awesome. I have even done some extreme jumps on it off curbs, launched over cracked sidewalks... I have cruised all over L.A. and South Central, great battery life....

I ordered the ES4 yesterday, waiting for it now. Who knows how long it will take. I can't wait to try it out. I got it to commute to work in NYC. Thanks for a in-depth review of these scooters! I was literally trying to find a quality review and I really couldn't. ES4 and I Shoot Raw! Shout out to Jared!
By the way, that was funny how you said you don't ride at night, I don't blame you. I unfortunately have to do it coming back from work later in the evening.
I have it for like 2-3 weeks now and it is terrible. The extra battery is giving me problems and they can't do anything about it.
Return this product and don't buy Segway. If you do open this box, you will regret it.
I recommend a turbowheel swift instead of this. Thank me later

Thanks for this, I bought the ES4. I'm having trouble understanding and working with the app. Do you have a review on that?
I have the same problem. The Bluetooth is not working I got the. ES4 too. And only runs at 14 miles
Fantastic and very needed. Thank you!
Such a great review man, I appreciate it! (and I went with the Max!)
Thanks for the video. Super helpful!
Can you tell me the difference between the ES4 and the ES3 plus?
So does the es4 go 28 mile range without the external battery ?
I’ve seen a review on the max showing the taillight operational. Not only was it operational but you can adjust it from solid to flashing in the app. Is this different from yours? BTW this was a very well put together video 👍
I bought more than a year ago ES2 for my Mrs, she's working as a personal carer with elderly peoples and she need to visit few of them per day. Is great for the lady and also not as heavy like the other scooters. ES2 working very well in my area and is not flat around, lot of hills, also battery life is not bad at all. Now she change the company and not need this ride anymore, so I am using it for my riding to town centre, etc. One big issue with ES2 are screws coming loose all around and scooter start coming wobbly, and every few weeks I need to tide up all. Also don't forget to switch on the power before you start riding (happen to her and me few times), it is not a good experience when you start riding down from the hill and you cannot slowing down your ride.
I debated between the ES4 and the max. Wanted the bigger tires and greater range of the max, but ultimately went with the 4 based on the fact that I'll never get a flat. That and the tail light. I ride to work in the dark. 301 days and 395 miles later and not a single issue. I live in a colder climate and battery capacity has suffered somewhat this first winter, but the info says that's to be expected and that it will return when it warms up again. Overall, I love it and wish I had bought it sooner.
super useful vid, you exactly answer the questions that I've been asking myself. Now I know which one I'm gonna get. It is:
ES4!!! I use it for commute, so I need something that I can carry onto a bus or train and fold up nicely. Range is not a concern at all as the station to my office is about 1 mile only.
Yes perfect for carrying. The max is great but too heavy for what you need.
So why not just get the es2?
@@froknowsphoto is the es4 battery removable? and mayb to go extra miles you can buy another external battery for it.

I own a MAX and the break light functions on the back it is the pill shaped thing on the fender. Thanks.
Ye . I thought it was wierd, it's a review and he obviously tested it but missed that the rear break light does blink when breaking.
Not good
Jakob really? Specs say it does not have a rear break light. When did you buy yours? Maybe they have an updated max model?
Yeah light blinks when stopping, and there is a setting to always have the back light on. Which I enable. Can also change the max start speed from 3 MPH to 1 or 0 with the custom firmware.
I think they either have the brake light or they don't depending on your regions legal requirements, after all, more lights mean more battery drain. I have the 2020 ES4 and the ambient light is rather obnoxious and draws too much attention to yourself
scooting raw sounds like you need to take your dog to the vet
What about hill climb? I wanna buy the max.. Which one do you suggest?
Have you tested it in the rain? Or wet pavement or wet surfaces?

your review is the best review I have ever seen let alone a review on just E scooters, would love to see a review on all scooters on the planet that is best in value based on price, speed, distance travelled, kilowatts, weight, quality, ride type eg suspension or no suspension and so on, thanks jared.
I love my es4 . The main selling point for me is the portability on public transport when I fold it , it is small enough to fit between my legs while seated on a train or bus. If I had the max it would be too large for public transport. I guess you can still use the max on public transport but you will find yourself standing more while on the bus or train.
How tall are you?
The Max is incredible value for the money. The best overall scooter under $1000 I think. The ES2 is interesting, but more of a last mile commuter I think. Love what Segway/Ninebot have been doing.
This is the best review I’ve seen thank u so much I liked
Can you put non air tires on the Segway max?
When you fold them down, can you stand them up and push it on one wheel?
Yes you can. I have a ninebot max and you can do that, even though me personally ill grab it at the angle the stem folds and drag the rear brake

Very nice review Jared. And funny too in some parts. Lol
Great video, very helpful!
What will be the chores of the problem if the battery charged but it won't turn on
Great review. One thing that wasn't covered and I curious was, what happens if you need to replace a part? Like maintenance needs to happen eventually and would be good to know these things for potential buyers.
There is no problem in getting spare parts. :) it’s Segway and not some new random brand :)
Amazon has tons of replacement parts because the xiaomi m365 has the same build. So you can get tons of parts and extras.
I remember, 15 years ago, I made a science tech report about segway's 2 wheel self balanced transporter. Now I just bought their e scooter max. So happy!
Thanks for the review!
I've got over 500km on my max. I don't need to drive to work anymore. The back fender broke of but I had crashed it a few times. It looks meaner now. Lol Its a tank though, a torque monster too.

With the extra battery, the es2 becomes the es4. If you’re questioning it between the es1 and es2, get the es2.
I’ve ridden in Chicago, you don’t want something that has that little power and battery life for actual useful riding and dealing with higher grade climbs.
I would personally get the es2 and install the external battery to boost the power and speed if you needed.
Old post but no the official store even said the es2 with external battery isn't the same as the es4
Completely different motor in front wheel
Appreciate the detailed review !!
That Front St footage made me nervous. Those potholes are painful and dangerous on my motorcycle!
I wonder how long you have with the tyres.
Good, comprehensive review. But can you ride the ES4 without the external battery and get the same range as the ES2? Plus, can a person buy an extra battery pack for the ES4 for those back-packing-carrying-times when you might want more range?
Es4 has different motor in the front wheel people just never did the right research 2 years ago
just bought an es2 rode it today to work 9km away works great, been riding e bikes for 5 years so far I'm happy
Biggest problem with my es4 so far is that it’s too fast and too light. Almost feels like you’re about to fall of at any moment if you hit a big enough rock or hole
