I'm so happy to see how many people remember this. I'm glad I'm not the only one to have the Groin Injury rap stuck in my. It's one of my favorite Cheers moments.
This show was so good they had several funny things going on. Sam alone was hysterical rapping but it gets even funnier when woody starts moving to the rapping lol.
i love how those 2 anchors completely dump all over sams commentary, yet here we are 30 years later, and athletes are still complaining about artificial turf is tougher on their bodies. This guy owes sam an apology
Not to mention that it IS possible to grow grass in indoor stadiums. If the owners really cared about the longevity of their athletes' careers, they could make it happen with the proper lighting.
After the first segment where he says to "root root root for the home team," the newscaster woman adds very sarcastically, "Thanks Sam, you've given us A LOT to think about." Lol.
To this day I cannot read about some athlete having a groin injury without automatically thinking of this scene which means I then completely inappropriately burst out laughing. Can't help it! Lol!
This was one of the classic moments in Cheers for sure. The groin rap is awesome! Every now and then myself or one of my friends makes reference with the saying "g g groin, a g g g groin. I even heard it on TSN the other night. Absolute Gold!
I strained my groin a couple days ago. And as soon as I did it this rap came into my head. I’d only seen the episode 1 time in the 80s as a kid. But it stuck with me
the reboot with Rebecca was brilliant kirstie brought an entire new take to the show and not sure who was funnier.. this episode when Sam raps and the ventriloquist scene makes me cry laughing
It definitely become more of an ensemble show--they didn't try to immediately recreate the Sam/Diane demographic. Then when they figured out that Kirstie Alley was funnier playing neurotic/unhinged instead of the greedy ice-queen they initially had her as, they were off and running.
I'm watching this show on Netflix and I just watched this episode the other night. I couldn't stop laughing at Sam rapping haha! I love this show so much.
Yep...I recently pulled my groin and now my husband goes around going "a g-g-groin...a g-g-groin..." as I cripple around the house. I'd give him one, too, if I wasn't in so much pain!
Time to rap 'bout a controversy Gonna take a stand, won't show no mercy. A lotta folks say jocks shouldn't be a-doin' the sports news on TV. I don't wanna hear the latest scores From a bunch of broadcastin' school boiz. Get yo scores from a guy like me Who knows what it's like to have a grooooooin injury. Guh-guh-groin, guh-guh-groin, guh-guh-grooooooin injury. What was wrong with those news TelePrompter people in those days?
The fellow playing "Doc" the weather man is Stevie Coyle, super-talented singer/guitarist/songwriter. Search his recent musical performances right here on RUclips.
I think that Woody likes that song! It wasn't long enough, though. 2:35-If you'll notice, that blond is smiling... 3:15-She looks just like the aforementioned blond...just with a different reaction.
Just saw the episode again. Has to be the most suburban Up With People rap ever. What's hilarious is how, when he gets back to the bar, somebody says something about how rap had been done to death, like, 25 years ago or whatever. Might've been a couple years off, but...so right. Just ENOUGH already.
I remember this song as well as "Albania, Albania, it borders on the Adriatic..." Coach was hysterical. ruclips.net/video/-F_tT-q8EF0/видео.htmlsi=O49ABadBwVUCN6oM
Love how each editorial gets more ridiculous and bizarre. The writers were brilliant in setting up the joke. Awesome!
How does this only have 153 thousand views? This should have millions.
woody's reaction to the rap is what makes the entire scene
Absolutely! He is truly feeling the music..
No it was Carla and Rebecca's reaction that made this whole thing
I thought it was the song was cool when I was young and still feel the same way today... What a great episode!
Groin injury 🎶
Joanne's look at 3:14 us funnier
I'm so happy to see how many people remember this. I'm glad I'm not the only one to have the Groin Injury rap stuck in my. It's one of my favorite Cheers moments.
Same.
Yep, it's been stuck in my brain also, since way back then. I even laugh out loud still sometimes.
between the rap and little Sammy
. one of the funniest moments in cheers history
G..G..groin! G..G.. groin injury!
Probably one of the funniest moments in TV history, and thats one guy's opinion.
Agreed.
Opinion(s). lol
Woody with the subtle dance is what makes this scene classic!
Best enunciation of the word "groin" in American television history.
This show was so good they had several funny things going on. Sam alone was hysterical rapping but it gets even funnier when woody starts moving to the rapping lol.
Thank you for the memory's of the 80s best show ever Cheer's ❤️👏👏
Ted Danson wasn’t known for being a great comedic actor. But the rap alone should’ve won him an Emmy.
This was back when Michael J. Fox would seem to win every year with Family Ties. He did finally win Family Ties first year off the air
If either of them mentions the bar I'm suing.... Classic
i love how those 2 anchors completely dump all over sams commentary, yet here we are 30 years later, and athletes are still complaining about artificial turf is tougher on their bodies. This guy owes sam an apology

@@jeffw1267 Well, science marches on.
@@jeffw1267 They don't even need proper lighting anymore. They just put the field on rollers and wheel it outside.
After the first segment where he says to "root root root for the home team," the newscaster woman adds very sarcastically, "Thanks Sam, you've given us A LOT to think about." Lol.
Get it Woody
i love how norm is excited in the first shot of the bar. then every one after that hes horrified lol
Sam's mouth saying groin is killing me. He's all in. LMAO
the song was so funny
this show is amazing
To this day I cannot read about some athlete having a groin injury without automatically thinking of this scene which means I then completely inappropriately burst out laughing. Can't help it! Lol!
A gra-gra-gra-groin injury.
This was one of the classic moments in Cheers for sure. The groin rap is awesome! Every now and then myself or one of my friends makes reference with the saying "g g groin, a g g g groin. I even heard it on TSN the other night.
Absolute Gold!
I love the look on her face after the puppet looks at her and says JoAnn 😂
I strained my groin a couple days ago. And as soon as I did it this rap came into my head. I’d only seen the episode 1 time in the 80s as a kid. But it stuck with me
Over 30 years old but me and my brother still sing the rap groin injury 😁😁
The whole thing is funny- from the "I have 2 opinions" to the famous rap! Best episode ever!
“Lets face it folks…it looks prettier on TV.” Lol
During the NBA regular season when Steph Curry and Lebron both suffered a groin injury, I kept thinking of this scene w/Sam rapping 😂
This is the second episode after Shelly Long left and they didn’t skip a beat…amazing.
the reboot with Rebecca was brilliant kirstie brought an entire new take to the show and not sure who was funnier.. this episode when Sam raps and the ventriloquist scene makes me cry laughing
It definitely become more of an ensemble show--they didn't try to immediately recreate the Sam/Diane demographic. Then when they figured out that Kirstie Alley was funnier playing neurotic/unhinged instead of the greedy ice-queen they initially had her as, they were off and running.
funniest bit in the show's history, and that's saying something
I'm watching this show on Netflix and I just watched this episode the other night. I couldn't stop laughing at Sam rapping haha! I love this show so much.
If either of them mentions the bar, I'm suing
No, I have two opinions...and that's one guys opinions
I just die laughing every time. Since I first saw it, I have never been able to see or hear the word 'groin' without chuckling.
G-g-groin injury!
Best sitcom ever, and the g-g-g-g-g-groin in-jur-y rap is priceless. Has it really been 15 years since they hung it up??!?!
I love Joanne's look a the end
it's like "WTF" to the millionth power
Yep...I recently pulled my groin and now my husband goes around going "a g-g-groin...a g-g-groin..." as I cripple around the house. I'd give him one, too, if I wasn't in so much pain!
This is hilarious. You know a show has great acting when the cast can sit through something like this and not laugh!
Time to rap 'bout a controversy
Gonna take a stand, won't show no mercy.
A lotta folks say jocks shouldn't be
a-doin' the sports news on TV.
I don't wanna hear the latest scores

Well Woody liked it anyway.
many thx for posting this, I was trying to explain the rap song but you really have to hear it to appreciate how funny that bit was.
I love Cliff's various reactions. Check him out.
There would be so many memes from this if it came out today
I loved the song
and that is one person's opinion
Take that, Corky! Sam Malone is the coolest!
I love the reaction after the rap and puppet show....
Funniest show Ever! "I said a grooooiiinn in-ju-ry!" The best actors!
This is the funniest bit Sam Malone ever did! Many thanks longish for posting this.
One of the greatest shows of all time. All time...
Joanne could pass for Diane's sister!
SUPER CLASSIC !!!
The fellow playing "Doc" the weather man is Stevie Coyle, super-talented singer/guitarist/songwriter. Search his recent musical performances right here on RUclips.
lmaoooooooooooo..still in tears
Me too! Everytime a player has that injury, I have to do Sam's rap!
The rapping and the second half of the clip saves this bit. Who else could/would use groooiiin injury in a rap?
gr-gr- groin injury.
So horrible it's good.
There's a conTROversey gonna take a stand, gonna show no mercy. Ha lol rofl
I think that Woody likes that song!
It wasn't long enough, though.
2:35-If you'll notice, that blond is smiling...
3:15-She looks just like the aforementioned blond...just with a different reaction.
Hey, that's me as Dr. Buzz!
A GREAT set of moments, but nowhere more so than "G-g-g-groin injury".
"And that's one guy's opinions"
Well, Corky...
Or as my friends and I used to call it, a groan injury. Either way works, but Sam was hilarious.
3 Minutes of Cheers fun...(for a rainy Thursday!)
If Sam could have waited 20 years, he would've fit right in with today's newscasts. They're just as phony.
Ok, I have made a decision.
I'm gonna learn that groin injury song on piano.
So is the song's name supposed to be "Sports Rap" or "Groin Injury?"
Ted Danson rapped. Or tried to. Now I can die a happy man.
A groin injury gg groin injury...hahahaha
Just saw the episode again. Has to be the most suburban Up With People rap ever.

I love the rap!!
I actually thought Sam's rap was pretty good
I forgot all about that scene! 😅😅😅😅
at 2:30, the lady to the right (our right) of Carla (her left) kinda looks like shelley long!
Eminem is shaking right now… Sam’s the greatest rapper of all time.

It makes sense why she's actually smiling...
Classic!
1:43 ... lol
I love Woody.
I agree with Marybeth S.
Sam Malone “got em coach” someone find it.
I remember this song as well as "Albania, Albania, it borders on the Adriatic..." Coach was hysterical. ruclips.net/video/-F_tT-q8EF0/видео.htmlsi=O49ABadBwVUCN6oM
And of course, this has been just one guy's opinion.....
