I'm really impressed with the image quality of both of these cameras. They're both great options for action cameras...I have Dji action 3 standard combo its pretty good too..DJI products are superb cool sir
@@AjaySingh-228 good to hear mate, thanks agree they are both great. Some issues but in general they do a fantastic good for such a small camera at an affordable price 👍
Excellent comparison. 4:56 RockSteady does not work well when the Shutter Speed drops below 1/100. If you want to avoid this stabilization instability, you can adjust the Shutter Speed range to 1/200~1/8000, so the camera will never use a value lower than 1/200 when in low-light environment and RockSteady will work.
Thank you, appreciate you taking the time. Funnily enough I’m putting together a video on low light since the firmware update and using 1/200th. Results so far are encouraging for the d-log footage shot at 60fps or 100fps but the super night footage at 30p is still well short even at the same 1/200th. I think though I finally found a good compromise between stable and non jittery footage with some expected noise but possible to improve post. Thanks for taking the time mate 🫡
Gr8 comparison! 12:10 Reduced file size while being as good or slightly better on the A5 vs A4 is probably the best improvement. Would be interesting to compare with the A4 set at the same bit rate (or whatever bit rate to keep same file size. I might skip A5 and pickup a used A4 on eBay. I bought my last action cam the Akaso v50 Elite for around $120 and the quality was so bad it was unusable.
Thank you for the comment, appreciate you taking the time. I agree the reduced file size is a good thing. Both the 4 and the 5 are very good camera and as you say, there will be great deals on the 4 (or even the 3 actually) so great to have options. Have a great day 👍
Thank you for the unbiased review. I’m torn between the two. I really dislike the overprocessed look - too much sharpness and too “fake HDR” (reducing highlights and pushing up shadows far too much, sometimes you can see the edges of trees etc “glowing” because the camera is segmenting out trees vs sky and aggressively processing). I much prefer a lighter touch with real contrast even if it means losing details (that’s what log is for). Do you think the action 4 is better for a more natural look? Also, have you noticed any overheating differences between the two? I need to run them for a long time in a stationary room
Hi mate. I think if you reduce the in camera sharpening to -2 and the noise reduction also to either -1 or -2 it can sort that out (the HDR look). I also find the if you record d-log and then apply the DJI LUT for the pocket 3 rather than the action it works so much better. If you want long run times and no overheating then the 5 pro would be the better option for you I think 👍
Try this: 4K 30, EIS at Rocksteady (not +), Shutter 1/100-1/8000 (this is very important, you can also use quadruple your frame rate to 30FPS at 1/120), 60 at 1/240, etc., Texture at -2, Noise Reduction at -1. In night mode, you can’t adjust ISO. In normal, all these settings apply but make sure ISO is 100-25000. You won’t get shaky cam footage. The SS has to be able to keep up with the electronic stabilizer.
Thanks so much for the suggestion, appreciate you taking the time. I’ve done several tests at 1/200 even and still find some jitters, but it’s definitely better than auto obviously. I max out the ISO at 1600 as anything above that I’d never use and therefore not much point but I’m sure I will find a sweet spot eventually. Have a great rest of the weekend and thanks again for your input 🫡
Hi mate, appreciate the reach out. At the moment I do think it is the Action 5 pro (if you prefer action camera) or the pocket 3 if you are ok with a slightly less rugged camera but better image quality. The Insta ace pro 2 gets released tomorrow (22nd October) and I expect it will push the action 5 pro very hard and maybe a better recommendation. Worth hanging on a few days and look out for non sponsored reviews of it 👍
Maybe there was slighly less jitters on Action4 but I find stabilization little better on Action5. Anyways my Action5 tests when running with the camera mounted on the head are very very disappointing. GoPro has same issue with the jitters but at least the image exposure is not pumping. I've sold my GoPro Hero 7 that did not have this issue but the overall stabilisation was bad and battery life was not good as well. Now, I really don't know which camera to pick. Action5 jitters and pumping image, GoPro jitters and not as good battery performance. Maybe I am doing something wrong with the settings. Sorry for spilling my heart out.
I think you maybe right. I did some tests with the new firmware and much higher shutter speed and the results look like they maybe a bit better than before. My understanding is that they’ve reduced the strength of the rocksteady which is ok by me,m. I will put a video together with the results in the next few days to see how they look on the bigger screen. As I upped the shutter speed I needed to give more ISO range so the image is a little noisier, but at least the jitters seem way reduced.
@@Runningonthemind I've found out that with 4k 50fps and shutter speeds 1/400 - 1/8000 the jitters are really minimal. I am also trying to limit ISO to 100-800, that helps a little fir the exposure fluctuation.
@@MPOrienteering that makes sense. Trouble for me is that I vlog a lot of running content very early in the morning and now coming into winter it’s dark or still very low light most of the time. A shutter speed of over 1/200 would pretty much give me a completely black image so I have to balance it. 👍
At the moment I think it’s hard to justify the upgrade based on image quality for sure. Longer battery life and a better screen may well be worth it for somebody who wants long shoot times, but for the average person I’d say it is definitely worth seriously considering if it’s worth it at the moment and with its current firmware.
I’ve only had the chance to briefly test it once so far in the low light and I must say the results are encouraging. I need to do a few more tests but it looks like they’ve improved super night a lot with less sharp footage and the ability to change the frame is helping with the stability. Looking good 👍
Hey man, Was wondering, Im looking at the osmo 4 vs 5 for a holiday vlog cam and for some diving footage. If i had to buy a 4 or a 5, what do you think would be better?
I actually saw a decent review between the two for diving specifically last week and they are both great. The image is slightly better on the 5, but there seems to be a stronger HDR look which seems to crush blacks quite a lot. I’d go for the 5 mate 👍
Action cameras are using gyro data for stabilization, są image quality has nothing to do with stabilization, you need faster shutter speed and maybe higher ISO to not get motion blur jitter In lower light.
@@sebastianmikosiak7648 thanks Sebastian. The light wasn’t really low in this test and I wanted to use auto shutter speed for this test as that is what I think the majority of action camera users would opt for. In my next low light test I will use 1/100 fixed or maybe even slightly higher to see how that improves things. In my experience as soon as you take one of these above 800 iso the image is quite unusable.. but I agree it’s better to have noise and no jitter than the other way around. And after all, it’s an action camera so I don’t expect the same results as a full frame camera. 👍
Very clear and concise. Hope your cold is better. Thanks.
