Fun fact, my grandmother (who was a teenager in the 50’s) would unscrew the Speedometer cable and take the family car out for a joyride. This is because unscrewing the speedometer also would prevent the odometer for moving in that car. She’d come home and my great-grandparents would never know the car left.

What a great buy. I would keep that thing as original as possible Tyler. It's too nice to mess around with. The charm of classic cars is to experience them as they were in the day, flaws and all. You are driving history there. There are other ones that have already been modified that would be fun to play with but yours just seems like a time capsule that is perfect as it is (once repaired of course).

My dad had a 1950 Ford Tudor that I consider my first car, I was born in 1953. I remember standing on the driver's seat and not being able to see beyond the door structure below the glass. Good cars! One day while my dad was in a store I pushed the little starter button. Thank God the engine did not start though the car kicked against the curb. The flathead V8 was like the Apollo Moon Mission at Ford, there is a great period documentary on its creation.

What a fabulous car!! Three on the tree. That was once so common. Today most people would not have a clue what you were talking about. Actually, Ford used the flathead until 1953. They were smooth as silk...but..they did have a tendency to overheat. The first question asked when buying a flathead was "Does it run cool?".

'49/'51 Ford car flatheads were painted bronze. One tip on driving with the non synchro first gear, put the shifter in 2nd then 1st if the car is sitting running in neutral or right before you come to a stop. It stops the countershaft from moving, thus removing the potential for grinding.
