To me the best way to learn editing is to watch the editing in movies and really pay attention to what's going on. I've been doing medical animation for 20 years and a lot of the times I end up editing the project myself. I can honestly say I never really paid attention to what I was doing until the last few years. Where and what you cut can have such a huge impact on the flow of the story or the feeling that it invokes in the viewer. School is great, but you can learn a lot by just paying attention to the content that you're watching.

On my first day of film school our teacher gave us a film, each student got to pick from a few random classics. And then he made us go frame by frame and cut it everywhere we notice a cut. It was boring, tedious and seemed useless. BUT after cutting a 3 hour classic movie....your eyes get used to and start noticing cuts, the connection between cuts, where the motion was stopped and where it was continued... The rhythm, the tempo, everything. But I guess that is rendered useless today when you can just use "scene edit detection" in premiere pro 🤣

This interactive way of presenting a course on editing begins to feel almost like a 1 on 1 tuition experience. I think it's a great idea.
Definitely something that would attract me. I will be checking it out even though I have no hopes of being a film editor, I think the process would help me with my projects.
Unfortunately, I have missed most of this week's events due to the fact that it coincides with the world cup transmission here in my part of Europe and a construction crew has just moved into our remote area and sucked our internet connection dry. I already hated football. Oh well.

If this product is good enough, and you release it cheap (DaVinci style), you'll corner the market. This will make you tempting for Adobe to buy.

Just to show my gratitude for your videos, I put myself to the test. I tried my best to follow instructions and plan out the story of my video. Normally I would make a paper mache collage of events I thought were cool to record. The best result I ever had was a completed jigsaw puzzle where it looked like someone hammered in the last pieces, if not most of them.
Well, it took me four weeks to work through this exercise and produce 12 minutes of @worstvideos . I split the 12 minutes into two parts as an act of compassion for the kind poor souls that would attempt to sit through my disaterpiece in one nauseating session.
It was far more difficult than I imagined, yet it made sense. I noticed that knowing what elements need to be filmed to make a story flow helped save time. Loads of benefits for me......and great fun being challenged.
tHanks again for all your videos and insight.
I've learned enough that I can confidently also give advice.......
"After seeing how I do things.....To obtain success and reach goals.....do exactly the opposite".

It's all great if you have all those important moments captured. Otherwise you have nothing to edit. Which means that before you even start shooting, you have to know what's important to the story, and have the actors act it out, because if it's not filmed, your whole story about editing is hollow.

Am carrying a question with me for 7 years of my premiere pro usage. That "Should I switche to Avid Media Composer or not?"
Switching my editor is a big task for me as a rookie. With premiere pro, I know evey corner of it and even every damn unnecessary settings of it.
So, when I tried Media Composer, reality slapped me on my face hard. So, is it worth my time to learn it? What is the future of Premiere Pro?
I have so many questions. Please aid me with your opinions.

MC editor here. Me and my team are moving to Resolve. AVID are dinosaurs that are falling behind in the industry. Yes, I love MC and it's super cosy for me to cut with, but that's just because I've been using it for years, if I had used Premiere or Resolve as much then it would be closer. I hear the biggest weakness in Premiere is the bugs and stability. There is definitely hope that Adobe will sort it. Resolve is growing super strong and fast hence why we're moving to it. MC is still my favourite NLE (only for AE stuff like grouping, organisation and cutting, it suckkkkks for everything else). The issue with MC is that AVID are a struggling company who are so far behind in their research and development and show only signs that they'll be obsolete in the future unless they make MAJOR changes. Even the simplest of things people are asking for them to do/fix are considered basic in any NLE, but the way MC is so jank that it's either extremely hard work to get it to work, or straight up impossible in its current form of code.
My recommendation is: knowing as many NLE's well enough to be comfy is great. MC has quite a bit of time being relevant, but I see Resolve/Premiere advancing past them fast.

@@bcl1039 "Mastered" is a great word to use here. I've switched back and forth with Adobe and FCPX. Adobe is clearly the industry leader but with all the updates and "cool" things you can do. If you want to master PP or AE you're investing lots of time in a "lifestyle" choice. FCPX is an "editing"choice. If you have other things you want to spend your time doing, it's worth noting.
