Seriously Lewis' advice has been paramount in my film journey. A film will be made or broken in the edit. I was losing footage cause I wasn't organized, not marking and binning properly, and overall didn't have structure when it came time to edit. His knowledge is amazing. And he is also, a pretty nice guy :)
Breaking these scenes down in such a paramount way helps you to edit just about anything, not just docs but even commercials. Intro, setup, intent, and out. Wow. So great.
Lewis’s editing intensive doubled my editing speed! The organizational process he teaches are amazing. The focus on story building is revolutionary. I can’t wait for the perfect cut!
I just want to thank you very much for your tutorials. You have helped me make a better video than I did previously. I prayed to God to show to help me come up with a better video making system and then I came across you. Your filming style suites me far better than what i have done previously. Thanks again
This is very helpful! I've got trouble with longer forms and thought that "I'll only make montages/short forms". But longer cuts are just... awesome and can tell different story.
Soooo looking forward to that editing course!!! Great stuff, from a great team, and always great insights, obviously, greatly appreciated! Gracias guys!
By the way, placing the monitor on the desk behind Lewis was a brilliant touch. I’ve never seen that done, but it’s a great way to give us an immersive talking head shot while still adding context about what he’s discussing.
Stoked for this! So great to hear from you Lewis. This is the sort of good info that makes this channel and the AOD course so valuable to every film maker at any level.
Great video Mark, and nice job by Lewis. Thinking in terms of scenes is one of the most important things doc filmmakers can do, and makes a massive difference in the finished product. Really looking forward to the editing course, I think it's going to be packed with value like all AoD modules have been - great stuff!
I thought I was a decent editor before taking the intensive workshop with Lewis. He has given me a process that makes editing genuinely fun and more consistent. I'm itching to start the Perfect Cut! Let's go AOD!
OMG, now I have to definitely sign up for the next AOD module. Lewis is amazing in explaining stuff step by step very easy and digestible way. Honestly, your rasing a powerful community of new documentary filmmakers 🙂 AOD power 😅
Brilliant!! looking forward to that additional course in AOD!! I sense that having a better grasp at editing will improve my skills as a filmmaker DOP - is that correct? :)
I have been itching to do a documentary on my friend who is paddle boarding from the Bahamas to Florida solo in order to raise money for children affected by cystic fibrosis. This is a heavy topic that inspires me greatly and i can see the final product in my mind when i close my eyes. My one hesitation is getting this documentary done while also having a full time job and young kids. Anyone have some words of wisdom here?
Brilliant film education stuff. I'm working towards my first rough cut, a film about rock climbing in Kenya - looking to this page for some advice and it never disappoints. Is there a way to get hold of more of those juicy edit vids?
Hey! Lewis try so hard to speak clearly and loudly that it is already very noticeable and very pleasant for those who do not speak English every day:) thank you very much for such an introductory video! See you in the next one!
@@markbone Sorry Mark - Is that that each scene is created as a separate event and then added as completed into the new timeline to be then published. My question was initially a bit obtuse - again, I apologise for having you return to the question. And Cheers from Canada
AOD team- For those of us who signed up for the Editing Intensive, will we see a discount code or something if we want to sign up for The Perfect Cut? Thanks!
Guys I wanted do know are documentaries a good way of earning money? Please tell honestly cuz I think the demand on it is quite naturally lower that let’s say some b rolls or promotional vids. If I were to choose, I would do Docs, but how to monetise this type of art? You are meant to have a background in it somehow or

I’m 100% a fan of Lewis! A+ on all these tutorials! 🙌
I am also a fan
Happy Elvis was mentioned. It felt like a 2 hour commercial. I felt genuinely panicked and overwhelmed from it all when leaving the cinema.
Great video!
Really looking forward to this Mod!
as am I!
Incredible piece of art
Amazing video man!
thanks making this video

Yes. Every good director and even DP should have a grasp on editing so they know what to shoot
very interesting might consider joining the course!!

Thank the man Lewis!
@@markbone thank you for putting the video and thanking Lewis also
Package of insights
Awesome video! alright back to editing lol
GET BACK NOW!
I wonder if I do a doc for my friends and there is a picture, can I edit it to look better and cooler? Or in this case it won’t be a documentary?

wow dude look amazibg this video
Thanks!
That glasses scene gave me more Patrick Bateman vibes than CSI vibes lol
I bought the Lut packs and I can't get them to load in final cut pro, any suggestions?
Mark, Do you build out all the scenes completely separately or in the same timeline, adding them separately and then into the final timeline?
Separately

Is the Perfect Cut a separate course? Didn't see it on the waitlist.
There will be lots of info about it on the website when we open the doors :)
I wish this was for Davinci Resolve!
Gold
Platinum

Is it a big deal to use final cut for editing? Ive tried adobe but I just find final cut much easier. I am looking at getting your academy.
It’s totally fine to use FCP! There’s nothing wrong with using the tools you find help you achieve your work easiest.
Look forward to seeing you a part of our academy!

I legit thought that was Christian Bale in American Psycho in the beginning 😂

I’m not learning anything in this video. 😢 I’m sorry bro
