I might be in the minority, but I would take this album over Nevermind if I had to choose between the two.
as I get older, I lean that way too
mysterymac38 for me I would choose 1. BSSM
2. OHM
3. Mothers Milk
4. Gish
5. Siamese Dream
6. Mellon Collie
7. Nevermind
8. Dirt
9. The Bends
10. Ok Computer
Nevermind changed the world. But it doesn't really compare to Siamese Dream musically. Billy was far ahead of his contemporaries musically in my opinion. If Siamese Dream didn't prove that, Mellon Collie certainly did. I love all the great bands from that time, I have since day one, but there isn't one of them that could've made a record like Mellon Collie or Siamese Dream. Its a shame that more people that are close to my age don't appreciate the fact that we still have Billy alive and making new music.
I may be in a minority that just doesn't look at Artists in the same light as others. Does my opinion on who I like better really matter to anyone...more than likely not. So, why would I worry about Rackin and Stackin bands or any solo Artist for that matter...
Honestly it is a lot more polished. Also even though it's grunge it's structure accentuates the emotion it's trying to convey much more clearly.
Funny, the Pumpkins were always very personal to me back in the day, and Mayonaise was always my favorite. Had no idea everyone else felt the same way, rad :D
Levi Yule anyone who has good taste in music will love this album. Very emotional and the way Mayonnaise is composed is beautiful and also Soma is very underrated track on this album
It’s a magical song.
I saw the pumpkins at UNO Lollapalooza’94 and while I remember the show being amazing, the thing that I remember most is when they played that song and how it affected everyone. It was the defining moment of the whole event for me.
This is the best album to ever exist
let me guess, this is the only album you own? I think the music world would not be degraded if this did not exist.
@@ejdiii333 degraded? what are you trying to say??
Definitely best of the 90s
@@ejdiii333 not quite sure what you are trying to say, but luke is right. If it's not siamese dream, it's another pumpkins album.
Lateralus?
Every once in a while, I'll come across an album that doesn't have a single bad song. Well, this is an album that doesn't have a single song that I don't immensely enjoy
Took me a minute with the double negative. : )
Brody Ellis sorry but the only bad song is Silverfuck but besides that everything else is fantastic. So it makes up for that track. And someone tell me why Mayonnaise was never a single it has to be the best song on this album
Silverfuck is great though. Worst song is Sweet Sweet.
Also Today and Cherub Rock are the best tracks from this album in my eyes.
Sweet sweet and silverfuck are the only two weaker songs but I do agree with the sentiment. My favourite album ever. The only other album that again hasn't got a bad song on it is Radioheads The Bends imo
Siamese Dream, Evil Empire (RATM), Mama Said (Kravitz), 2001 (Dre), Sublime's 3rd album and 40 Oz. To Freedom, The Bends (Radiohead), Nevermind...
Hummer, Mayonaise, Soma and Silverfuck have to be my favorites of the album...but whats even better is the fact that EVERY song on this album is amazing in their own ways. The tie together to make one of my favorite albums of all time. I wish they could come back together to make an album and call it Siamese Awakening. Go back to their roots of musical genius
Sadly, I don't think we'll ever have another Pumpkins album like this one again. Have you heard the latest from Billy? Oh man, he's very far from this. I think something about struggling to make it in this world, it's a major source of creativity. you know what I mean? Thanks for watching.
The latest I've heard was Oceania. And it was decent. And no problem! Keep up with the cool vids
Rex Raver honestly Silverfuck isn't that great. That's just my opinion
Second thought I hadn't re listened to SD so when I heard the ending of Spaceboy and how it has that strange and hilarious clip in the last 30 seconds and that intro to Silverfuck hits that is pretty sweet and then it leads to sweet sweet to close with Luna is awesome
I meant I haven't listened to it in a while
haha, I'm sure Siamese Dream will be okay, just keep it spinning. It's so hard for me to pick, but Soma is definitely up there on my list of fav SP songs. Thanks for the sub.
Can you maybe do a review of Loveless from My Bloody Valentine? I wouldn't of discovered MBV or the shoegaze genre if it wasn't for Siamese Dream. Same as Nirvana fo me.. I wouldn't of discovered the Pixies and alternative rock if it wasn't for Nevermind.
Wade Winston Wilson Fantastic album, I'll add it to my request list! For me it was the Fight Club OST that I first discovered the Pixies
Vinyl Rewind
AWESOME MAN!
In my opinion one the most underrate guitar albums! Easily one of my favorite albums of all time... Layers and layers of guitar tonality, and over dub genius.
My favorite album of grunge.
Billy Corban is a guitar god, but you’d have to really get into his masterworks. Check out his video he made when he was a headbanger.
Disarm is a great one, but this is one of those songs where I feel it was his and he let us in on it.
THIS is my all time favorite album. It was the first CD I ever bought with my own money.
Yo man me too. Still such a great album even if I'm not a pumpkin fan anymore. One of those albums that stands on its own and has really stood the test of time. I appreciate it more now then I did then. Rare to find an album like that no matter what the decade
I can imagine someone hearing the credits music for the first time and instantly getting warm and searching for the full video
This album is so special to me I
Smashing pumpkins is my favorite 90s band ever
And I love corgan
My favorite Smashing Pumpkins song has to be Soma. The loud-quiet dynamics make the song so interesting and I find new things I like about it every time I listen to it.
Awesome! I love every song off of that album! It is truly a masterpiece! My favourite is probably Hummer. I also really love Mayonnaise as well
Just watched this. Loved it. Never saw "Vinyl Rewind" before. Subscribed IMMEDIATELY. Great job!!
Thanks buddy, I appreciate the sub!
I have an original pressing like that orange one, but mine is violet. Super cool, and a total steal at $40 when I picked it up about a decade ago. "Disarm" is definitely one of those pivotal songs. I first heard it after being introduced to the band by a friend right around it's release while a freshman in high school. Decades later, it was transformational in my own personal growth journey. I'll probably do a deep dive on elements of this record at some point in the future on my channel as well. Good stuff!
Great review for one of the greatest album ever
Btw, my favorite Pumpkins songs are Stand Inside Your Love, Mayonaise and She
Thank you, and great song picks
Tnx for beautiful Vinil excursion 😊
Defiantly Pumping Smashkins best album.
ZeNewDragon I say both are great but I would give the slight edge to Celon Mollie because there really hasn't been a double album that good probably since 1995
Thanks man. I'm with ya on Jellybelly, great tune, should've gotten radio play. Give it another 10-20 years and I think it will be up there on the list of the greatest albums of all time.
Thank you for checking it out!
best album ever written. Soma Solo best solo ever written. and im not the biggest fan but this album still holds up today. A true Master Piece
What you said about Disarm is so true! The first time I heard it was in a fanmade video about harry potter and voldemort's relationship :')
CheesausageTV ? Harry Potter didn't exist in 93' or 94'
Dallin 2323 that's because I first heard the song in 2011 ;)
I didn't think of that. It's like when they put out Blu-rays, sometimes they just uprez the original file used for the DVD. What's the best way to tell if the 180-gram has been mastered correctly? Is there a way to know before you buy? Is the "Original Master Recording" brand a good bet?
No way, what a line up! How did the audience dig on SP? I agree with you, had Melancholy been a tighter, smaller album, I might say otherwise.
1:35 actually rocket was the first song he wrote for the album
Thanks for posting this. I thought I was clear enough but yes, you are totally right. There's a great interview on youtube that I pulled from where Billy talks about this. It's from 1992.
Just found this channel whilst browsing for vinyl and watching jeopardy...I'd have to say my favorite Pumpkin track is Drown...it has flip flopped over the years but it's the track I always find myself coming back to...I've heard it live a couple of times from Lollapalooza 94- Summersault in 2000... love me some SP....so says my tattoo
Wow, Drown is superb track. I had to go listen it again. I may be way off base but I feel like Billy is channeling some Hendrix on that track. So good. Thanks for stopping by
Very cool production on the review colory and fun to watch cheers.
thank you
I hope you also do the review of “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness”. I think that’s the best Smashing Pumpkins album, based of their great musical output. But I really love this album too
I think my favorite song by the pumpkins is quiet. There's just something so angry about it that I love so much
Mayonnaise and Thirty-Three are amongst my favorites. But there are so many more.
Thank you. Hummer is great too
Love the video. I feel a bit bad that I missed my favorite album's 20th birthday, but I'll spin it for the rest of the week to make up for that. All of these years later and I still consider Soma to be the greatest song of all time.
Keep up the good work, dude. Subbed.
Great Review of a great album!!
+Agustín Islas thank you
I've always had a thing for Geek U.S.A. aside from the name being awesome, the track itself encompasses the entirety of the Pumpkins sound at the time. It starts out with loud, fuzzy guitars playing insane licks through the song, and just when you think the songs will end, it goes into the slow, dreamy bridge. (Hence the name, Siamese Dream.) When the song finally goes back to the blaring guiatrs, Billy pulls out one of his best solo's and just leaves you speechless and the song's intensity keeps increasing. For the finale, a heavy, and awesome outro to the song with some of Billy's most interesting vocal melodies. Overall, a fantastic song to one of the best albums ever written, and don't even get me started on the drums!
I have yet to really explore Gish but I look forward to it soon. Thank you
your show keeps getting better & better! I'm partial to Gish over SD, but both are epic albums.
Should I buy the 1994 Virgin remaster of Gish or the 2011 Virgin remaster? I'm referring to the CD version.
Excellent vinyl review!! My fav SP songs on Siamese Dream are:"Disarm",Mayonaise",Soma" & "Today"!
Nice choices, It's hard to pick just one, isn't it
Yes it is,it is!!
Great episode, it's nice to see this kind of "newer" albums featured too! Thanks!
Mikko / TheVinylCorner
They are my favourite Band. Favourite song: The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left, Looks Right). Favourite LP: Adore
Wow I just discovered your channel today and I gotta say I normally don't like youtube reviews but your channel is awesome. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for saying so!
Ah man, I remember a commercial making a joke about that using cell phone lights (at that time they were just back lit screens and glowing number pads) to light up a football game. How funny that's come true. Lighters during shows is another thing the next gen will never know. Once, I asked a friend if he took pictures during his trip to Africa, he said no because, it takes him out of the experience, like he's not really there, just seeing it through a lens. Feel like that's what's happening
Love this album. One of my top 5 of all times.
Great show!
you are welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it
thank you Mikko, gotta keep it fresh and keep you guys guessing
Wow, what a great story and great time for music. Did you end up hanging onto to any of the those flyers? I found an interview from 92 where Billy talks about GnR with some disdain, mainly how his band is more sophisticated. I wonder if they bumped shoulders back stage? When I was watching old live footage of them, I noticed that commenter said kids today are too busy with their phones to move with the music. I wonder if that's really the case?
CHERUB ROCK, man!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the greatest rock songs, ever
Freaky, Eric - I just got this recently on my own and didn't even realize its been 20 years - this album meant a lot to us back then. Fav Pumpking songs, however, still is 1979...
thank you, spread the word!
My favorite pumpkins song is probably "bodies", from mellon collie.
Thank you buddy!
ah man, what a great story. A sign of a great album. You play it till it breaks
No way, that is freaky! For many reasons I connect with Melancholy more, especially 1979 and Tonight, Tonight. The video for 1979 is how I imagined high school would be
Great video! Love it and you are right. Siamese Dream is a great example of why analog recording and production are far superior to digital. This album is a masterpiece!
csilt Thank you very much!
Great review! :)
I always come back to this video just for the intro. It's just so pleasant to look and listen at/to that. Is it possible to use this intro in the future? ^^
Love your background-explaination by the way of the album. Nice work. ^-^
We might rework a new one but it was just a little too long for most viewers on RUclips, had to cut it down
thank you sir
Classic af... not many people today, could write, play, overdub, mix and master an album of this quality, and done in analog, from start to finish
Had to come back today for the 30th anniversary
Hello Chile and thank you for watching
11 and 12 in 93. Disarm still hits me. Soma made me wanna learn my guitar better.
Definitely one of my favorite album after Mellon Collie, my favorite song on this album definitely GEEK U.S.A., that song is so chill🤘🤘
Just one thing to straighten out what was said in the video - the Pumpkins weren't trying to be like Nirvana by getting Butch to produce, he actually produced Gish too, before Nevermind's release, so he was already involved with SP pre-Nevermind blowing up. Great video, one of my favourite albums from the greatest band of all time.
Thanx boss!
That jacket is amazing.
thanx buddy
what about Gish, Mellon Collie, or Adore?
Continue the Pumpkins discography
Nice review, I would like to see your take on Machina or Adore.
My fav pumpkins tune off SD is Sweet, Sweet. Of all time its probably Pennies.
Sweet, Sweet is great too. I had to look up Pennies, great song too. Thanks for watching
No problem, awesome show!
Love Pennies and Cherry,Methuselah just to name a few demos, b-sides and such...
Ahhhhh... Mayonaise. One of the best songs ever written in my book
thanks man
thank you
20years, man i'm old
It really took my by surprise when he said Siamese Dream was released 20 years ago because I hadn't realized this was uploaded 8 years ago. This is great keeping in mind today's standards, wow.
I actually was lucky enough to get the original first pressing of this record however I really want to pickup the reissue as well. Mayonaise, Today and Hummer are probably my favorites but I honestly feel like this record is 10x better if you listen to it all the way through as one piece of music.
What?! No way. how'd you pick it up? Did you get it back in the day or was it more recent? I've been trying to track down the original pressing of Weezer's debut, but it's just so pricey. Thank you for mentioning the merits of listening to it as an album. I couldn't agree more. Thanks for watching
medellia of the gray skies (the tonight tonight ver) for me. great vid!
thank you
thanx
My favorite Pumpkins song is Disarm
You look like 1950’s Biff from Back to the Future
OMG where did 20 years go???
SWEET SWEET
Still amazing!!!
I love your review and I love this album, but I don't know what happened with some of these remasters. My copy sounds perfect except at the end of the track Hummer: it skips for a few seconds ... :(
+MrSurferRosa weird, is it on vinyl?
yes
Quiet, Hummer, and Soma
AMAZING album!
great review ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ grettings from Chile
Nice vid guys!
Cool stuff, Thx!
This album is amazing
Their best album. One of the best albums in the world.
Mayonnaise, hummer, rhinoceros and drown on loop....ahh heaven!
Stand inside your love
wait a minute. this isnt anthony
Dug it as always. Keep doing it brutha!
My favorite Pumpkins song is The Imploding Voice aka Virex
Should’ve done a video on Mellon Collie instead.
I actually prefer Gish but this is a great album as well. Love Disarm though.
nice channel, just subscribed.
