    We left WA in Dec bc of the mandates and moved to TN. Back in Washington, my dad had a beautiful grape vine in his yard, and I had access to them. Now I have lots of oak trees on our property, and use those. Great video!

    Wonderful video! To save on my back and my husbands, ha, we put the crock in the closet first and bring the ingredients there and layer. This can get extremely heavy and dangerous for those of us with back issues when it is filled.

    I Love Love the addition of nasturtium flowers and leaves to pickles.....I have made a few large jars of refrigerator pickles and would have loved to add nasturtium leaves and flowers. I have a new crop of cucumbers on the go so will definitely add them...I sowed nasturtiums for the hummingbirds...I also pickle the nasturtium seeds ....They are quite tasty!

    I love making cucumber pickles as well as pickled vegetables. I saw that your friend uses grape leaves and/or oak leaves, but I don't have access to either, so I use fig leaves. It's amazing what the garden provides.❤

    I finally got my first crunchy batch of fermented pickles this year after several tries. I heard that you need to remove 1/4 inch off both ends to get all the enzyme out that makes it get mushy. I’ve tried with oak leaves in the past and this year I used black tea for the tannins. Worked great!

    I wish I could get my dill to grow that beautifully. My nasturtiums aren't blooming either. Come to think of it the cucumbers have been pretty sad too. I did get 2 quart jars of fermented pickles with dried dill made. They are nearly gone. Lovely video.

    What an absolutely lovely video, Angela! It brought back memories of my daughter setting up her “store”, and selling me all kinds of things. So sweet. Your house and garden look so beautiful - it kind of reminds of the mas des Poiriers in France; it just needs those light blue shutters! I tried barrel pickles for the second time this summer and no one likes them. Too salty, not vinegary for my crowd 😢

    Hi Angela.... This is another beautifully done video. 🖤 I'd like to make these, but I always thought you had to add vinegar to ferment?

    • @TheBereangirl
      @TheBereangirl Год назад +1

      Nope! The natural yeast, that white film on the skin of the cucs, does the work of fermentation. You just need the right amount of salt to keep the good bacteria in control. The fermentation process provides vitamin c for the sour flavor. It's simply marvelous!😋
