  • This is a really cool building. I get pretty bored with straightforward rigging and this building doesn't have much of that.

    Good job mate , I notice u don’t use rags 🤔 I normally rag the frames, u made it look like I’m waiting time …I will definitely try your technique tomorrow 😅

    • @BrodyYYC
      @BrodyYYC  Год назад

      The trick is running your index finger along the bottom of the frame as you squeegee the face. I'll use rags when I need to but this is more efficient for sure.

    I use a real sponge for wiping sills and frames but of course I do ground work (mainly residential). To many sharp edges on the frames to be using a squeegee on. Real sponges have gone way up prices recently not just cause of pandemic related issues but storms not allowing divers to go out and harvest them cause they spend at least a month a time out at sea. I get my window cleaning supplies from Detroit Sponge and Chamois in Wixom, MI.

      It's just an old GoPro Hero3. I attach it with the helmet mount it came with but I back it up as well because I don't really trust the glue.

    Hello. May I ask where you put your squidges every time? How is it attached so it doesn't fall out? And what are these straps that hold the bucket, is it something homemade?

    • @BrodyYYC
      @BrodyYYC  2 года назад

      Hey for my squeegee I attached a basic drill holder to my harness. I like the setup but I see lots of people use their gear loop as well. You can attach your tools with any tool lanyard but I really like to use the Camp X-Gyro ice axe leash because it doesn't ever get twisted. The bucket harness was designed by my boss. He's not currently selling them online but can probably do orders. www.amazon.ca/Bucket-Harness/dp/B07D4RK6TL

      @@BrodyYYC Wow thanks a lot for such a quick response. I have 6 years of experience in Rope Access, Irata l2 technicion, but I have never washed windows. Now I started, I’m just learning and I want to ask for advice, could you tell me which suction cup is better for windows? What squeegees and brushes for washing are better in your opinion? In general, I will be happy with any advice that will help my work faster and earn more.. Also, if it’s not difficult, please explain why you tie both ropes with a butterfly knot and hang a carabiner? As far as I know, any knot reduces the strength of the rope.

    • @BrodyYYC
      @BrodyYYC  2 года назад

      @@hensemzp1 of course no problem :) For the suction cup I love using a cheap dent puller suction cup you can probably find at any automotive shop. That's what I'm using in the video. Once you get used to it you can really move it around quickly and easily. It's also light. By far my favorite squeegee setup is a Ninja handle with a Sorbo channel. Usually use a 22 inch unless it won't fit in the window. I like using boar hair brushes the best. They're a bit heavier but scrub really well and seem to work better in the sun compared to t-bar applicators. You also need like 4x less soap. The 2 lines are tied together with a butterfly to load share the anchors. In the video you watched it on it probably wasn't actually necessary at all haha. The biner clipped to it is probably unnecessary in any situation like this but redundancy is always good. Of course knots reduce the strength like 30 - 45% but you're tying some kind of end knot at your anchorage no matter what and having another knot in your line doesn't reduce the breaking strength by double. It's just that the rope is reduced by somewhere in that % range at each knot. But if your rope is like 30 KN and say you reduce it by 45% with a knot which is on the high end you get 13.5 KN which is still super good enough. I certainly don't ever plan on encountering force anywhere near that high.

      @@BrodyYYC Thanks. Also, just curious, in what bag do you carry your equipment and ropes to the roof? Is it a backpack or a mayby duffel?And about the brush. For the price it is very expensive. How long does it last with constant work?Do you wash with a brush all the time or are there times when T-bar applicator is more convenient?

      You're going to need IRATA or SPRAT training, easiest way to get in is to get your ticket. It'll be a 4 day training and 1 day assessment so M-F 8 hours and for level 1 test day it could take 08:00 to noon or 14:00 for some. Depending on your career path this might help give an extra few bucks to the $$/hr. Welding, pipfitting, NDT, Civial/ Mech Engineering to give a few examples.

    ever tried a wagtail high flyer?

    • @BrodyYYC
      @BrodyYYC  2 года назад

      I have for pole work but not hand cleaning. If it was more humid here I would try one for a bit to see if I like it. The problem is the applicator doesn't seem to get enough water on the windows compared to a brush. I like how they work though.

    • @mswf97
      @mswf97 2 года назад

      @@BrodyYYC Think i might have to give the applicator a go. I've been using a high flyer but they're not great unless the windows are already fairly clean. Thanks for the reply. Love the videos.

    • @BrodyYYC
      @BrodyYYC  2 года назад

      I hope people don't use bosun's chairs anymore :P They wore full body harnesses too but you can die hanging from them. Everything is SPRAT or IRATA these days.

      @@BrodyYYC Nice! So you are using a full body harness with Petzl Podium? If not, what do you recommend? Thanks in advance!

    • @BrodyYYC
      @BrodyYYC  2 года назад

      @Jetstream Power Wash that's what I'm using in this video. But it just depends what you like best. CAMP harnesses are really comfortable and I like the podium attachment but they have less gear loops. I would try a few on before buying one.
