I was taught first connection is getting them on your belay line.
Second attachment would be to tether them to you as you did but not to your harness but to the carabiner the decent device is connected to

I always prefer to use the asap lock rather than the shunt.

I’m going for my first Irata course in a few weeks. I’m learning my knots with Knots 3D app and watching videos on here. Can you give any advice for people that are just getting into the trade?
Best place to find work, best place to learn new skills to progress to level 2 and recommend time to stay at each level before attempting to progress to to the next level.

I have 2 brothers that are level 2 and level 3 but I want to do this off my own back and not get help up the ladder just because they’re higher levels and are in higher positions in the industry.

Am sorry to say buh that's wrong, u were not supposed to unlock ASAP for the person u'r rescuing, u must maintain both ASAP cuz if one of your two points fail u will left with one point recall u offering rescue

Sorry but this is actually incorrect. Firstly and asap is rated to rescue, although it is a teeth device the fall arrest lanyard deems it suitable for rescue scenarios.
The reason why you remove the casualties back up is firstly easier rope/gear management. A scenario where this would make sense is if the casualty has a duck rather than an asap. As you lower the causalty you would have to manage two back up devices and if a duck is loaded you will have to use mechanical advantage like pulleys or slings to unload the duck to continue ascent. In a rescue you can imagine this would consume a lot of time. This is the same reason why we would not just lower the casualty using their own gear as it would be harder to manage the casualty and consume unreasonable amount of time.
Once a hard link is established to the casualty the casualty now has 2 anchor points as they are fastened to you and your anchor points deeming them suitable to remove their back up and decender.
Hope this explanation makes sense. Stay safe
