I've owned 3 laser printers since 1993. And the most recent one - the Brother mentioned here is only a year or 2 old. I always check the price of toner before I make a decision (and read the reviews on 3rd party toners). I also check on Linux compatibility, because you know - open source! For the few times I needed photos or a color printout, there was always drugstore prints. The ability to crank out flyers and rosters for my team I coach, and for my wife to print out things for work reliably with no muss, no expensive ink and quickly is a perfect use case for a relatively inexpensive laser. Plus, one recoups the difference in the slightly higher cost of the laser printer when one's not purchasing those teeny, expensive inkjet cartridges.
Brother laser double sided printer, several years old, wired ethernet, works great. Haven't bought a printer lately, but spend the extra $100 to get a business class wired ethernet laser, then keep it forever. Avoid inkjets, they are all scams, you get one print then the ink dries in the printhead and it never works again. The only real problem is printer drivers, try to find a printer that uses fairly generic comms protocols or else they'll make you buy a new printer every time you have to upgrade to a new operating system. The old Brother still works on Windows 11. Scanners are another driver scam, they'll make you buy a new one for an OS upgrade, which is not great if it's a sheet fed expensive one.
never buy an hp printer and you are immediately better off

this rosey person is the only one who can understand my pain. i only have to use my printer once a year or so, but it weighs on me all year
Printers are from hell
My printer HATES me...
I have a brick HP that I've only been able to successfully use once 🤦♀️ it's way too complicated
Yes, HP is the worst. How after so many years could they not make a printer that actually is reliable.
Speak for yourself. I love my printer
I cannot BELIEVE you are recommending HP printers! They are the worst.
