They should do to Tassie what they did for freo. Give them no extra picks, no extra players, no extra money or cost of living nonsense no advantages whatsoever and then tease them when they don't win a brisbane style plastic threepeat
How the AFL look to build out the team will be interesting. The way Freo was established had major issues. But then so did the Gold Coast. Being so reliant on the draft is very risky. GC put too much in having the best player lead a bunch of kids. They needed more experienced players in to start with. And the other issue with being so reliant on the draft is that some draft years are just not very deep for talent. GWS had better draft classes but also supported with better senior depth. I think the AFL almost needs to insert a rule that for the first season Tassie can get 1 player (contracted or not) from every AFL listed team. That will allow them to be far more competitive straight away, and also allow them to target experienced players in areas where prior draft classes are weak. But all that said, I think for the team to go ahead the AFL needs to change their perspective on having a new stadium. Looks like an incredible waste of money for a market that really can't justify such a project. The money being split over upgrades at Bludstone & Launceston would be a more practical option.
