I hate this sort of take where they act as if a club that just won a flag is regretting list management. The same happened with commentary about Geelong and Melbourne. All of those clubs would say it was 100% worth it for a flag.
Great point Horizon! Totally agree. If teams don’t make bold moves like they do in their premiership window, they might end up as perpetual failures like St Kilda!
@@PiesFooty In the case of St Kilda, there has been a bit of bad luck, too.
Their squad from 2008-2010 was absolutely brilliant. Elite midfield, suffocating backline with a range of key and small options and a forward line built around an all-time great key forward supplemented by a bunch of crumbing forwards and utility role players around the ground that gave them lots of scoring options.
They were 1 goal down when the final siren went in 2009, and all square in 2010.
Their results in that peak show how close they came, and just how hard it is to win a flag even once.
2008: 13-9, 4th, Prelim
2009: 20-2, 1st, Runner-up
2010: 15-6-1, 3rd, Runner-up
@@HorizonOfHope they were certainly impressive! Clearly not the best example of a club to point to. I probably was trying to make more the case that if a club doesn’t take a risk, then they may not ever be rewarded byway of a premiership. Sorry for not being clearer!
@@PiesFooty I reckon the Saints prove your point, still, you'd much rather take the chance than not.
The chance doesn't always work out but look at the Saints recently: too scared to take the risks they once did and mired in being a middling club.
Aged well. With the long injury list the guys they’ve brought in have done a great job. Depth might be a bit longer than previously thought.
You would still have to trade for a pre-agent though?
I think Sidebottom and Hoskin-Elliott’s time is up, I wouldn’t rule out suggesting replacing him with Edward Allan and Harry DeMattia, especially once the latter inevitably gets going
Totally agree and a bit controversial but I would be adding Howe to that list. I think he should finish on top and a star of the competition and not hang on 1 year to many. If Mason Cox doesn’t find some form urgently I would also be moving him on with 2 young developing ruckman in the vfl. That would open up close to 3 million and 4 positions in the team for youngers players to come in and start developing.
@@mattmurphy5419 I’d probably drop Cox and have Frampton pinch hit in the ruck and open a spot for another player
Gotta love how the good teams just keep getting better.
Goodness me, the season has just barely started and there's already conversations about the following year.
Geez Neil Balme is looking great
Well they're gonna have to compete with Essendon and West Coast who are about to have the biggest salary chests in a year. You could argue the case that some may rather go to the Pies than these, but it'll be hard to give up loads of cash, especially if some have the feeling that Collingwood would soon drop off.
Essendon been irrelevant for 20 years, and look like making it 21.
Should offer Larky some big $$$ to get him out of North… Target Taylor next year.
Get a dominant full forward and another key defender.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Ben king is wearing black and white in a few years
Signed a 2 year extension at GC. I’m a pies supporter but just don’t see it happening unfortunately
Wipe that Collingwood spoof off ya lips Macca, it doesn’t work like that. These young players on first year deals also have there contracts upgraded 5 mil lol in ya dreams.
Petracca to Collingwood
We need a Cameron like up foward
Harley reid to collingwood
Reg Grundies
Think this pies buddy doesn’t realise other clubs also have money so the pies are gonna have to trade
Not really, Collingwood are still paying treloar and Grundy. Treloar ends at the end of this season I believe.
@@Comatosedpeanut yeah exactly where is this 5 mil surplus came from. Also they aren’t just gonna get Oscar Allen for free eagles got money they’ll match
@@tysonspencer7547Oscar Allen won’t leave the eagles, he’s from Perth and he’s the captain.
A key forward or nothing.
Fox Footy, This is great! Let's be friends and have fun together!
The pies 🥧 will talk 👄 to free agent Smith
Bailey Smith will be a Hawk
Yeah right 😂 It’s either Pies or Geelong mate
@@hg55685 yeah it’s not, will be a hawk at seasons end
@@bradpaull4400 You do realise how much money Pies are willing to throw at him right? The fact that he literally just spent a whole 4-5 months training with Nick in the states? It’s not rocket science
@@hg55685 you do realise that it’s not as much as Hawthorn has to throw at him?, you also realise that you have no picks to trade for him, and 4-5 months? Might want to re check that, he will be a Hawk, nearly was last trade period
Pies were lucky to win the flag??? How about unlucky to lose some that they did? What about Richmond’s COVID flag? That’s lucky!
Pies shocker, a very poor decision to recruit Wijinski and give him a contract … they are going nowhere with decisions like that. Wijinski is a an average VFL type. OMG.
Pendles .. no for obvious reasons, Cox, he’s maxxed out. He will be gone by end of year. Howe, just getting on, tired , sore arm, it’s getting very hard . Not good is it? Elliott in the twilight and can’t see out seasons now. Mihochek 32 soon. I mean truly, this won’t be an excellent year at all.. I meant to say " Lipinski".
That is the most ridiculous comment I've read in 5 years
Elliot’s seen out more seasons in his later years then he did in the early part of his career 😂
You’re not very bright at all, pragmatist
@@RyanQuinn0397he very disproportionately labels Lipinski as a dud when he is a good player who has had a decent year, I don’t know what he is talking about with Elliott, he overrates Johnson when he has been lazy, selfish and a show pony, and one passage of play against Brisbane showed exactly why McInnes is in the team over him
@TheLaughingMagpie Lipinski doesn't hurt oppositions. No. He's too small, lacks physicality, influence, and doesn't hurt oppositions. Yes he's a dud.
Pendlebury needs to retire, he is actively damaging Collingwood, he should be getting dropped from games based on his form but Collingwoods are cowards and don't want to drop a champion.
Plenty of players who should be dropped before Pendlebury.
You’re joking right? Besides Nick, Jamie and Bobby he has been the most consistent player in the team
3 fellas with no personality. BYE
Pendels and sidebottom need to go...too slow 🐌
