- Here's how I rebuilt the front axle on my GU patrol. In this video I will begin the rebuild of my GU Patrol Front Axle to change; King Pin bearings, Axle Seals, Swivel Hub Seals and Wheel Bearings.
This is a job that involves working on the brakes, suspension and steering, so if you are not experienced you should grab a mate who knows what they are doing to give you a hand.
This job is time consuming and requires a little know how to get it done properly. That's not to say a beginner could not achieve this, you just need to keep track of all your parts and follow these steps.
Part two will go through the reassembly and torque of each of the parts.

Hey. Thank you very much for your informative videos and all the work you have put in here. These helped me a lot and saved a lot of workshop costs. :P Greetings from Hamburg(GER)
Glad to help! Great to hear the videos are useful all the way over there👍🏻
Wondering why Reubs hadn't uploaded in ages, turns out notifications were off. An actually informative video, I appreciate it as a junior fitter. Keen as hell to see the SAS progress on the nav to mate
Awesome to hear that mate, Im a first year truck and body builder 👍🏻. I’m bloody keen to get back onto the nav just have other projects that keep getting in the way.
Thanks :)
Hey mate about to do the same on my car should I paint before putting the bearings in and just mask off the 2 holes I saw u painted while they were in did u cover them or something cheers
Yeah would be best to paint before the bearings go in but if you wipe them down and remove any overspray it wont matter. I just wiped the bearing surface with thinners as its faster than masking up.
Finish the nav mate!!
Hahaha hoping to get back onto it soon 😂
great video very informative one question did you drain the diff oil before you started?
Thanks mate, in theory yes you should however by the time you get to fixing a axle seal they’ve usually lost enough oil that there’s not too much to leak out anyway. Only thing to keep in mind is if you are going to do one side at a time as the angle of the diff will cause more to drain out the side 👍🏻
Which way around do the king pin plugs sit?
Hey mate you tap them in from the outside of the knuckle with the edge of the circle facing out if that makes sense.
why did you paint it ?
Makes it a bit easier to see if it has all sealed properly and looks tidy.
@@ReubsModifications oh thinks i should do the same then
any paint would work?
thanks!
"promo sm" 😴
Nice gloves😂
Atleast tell people you have cheap parts not genuine
Genuine isn't always the best replacement, there's also a link to the parts I used in the description if people are interested as to the quality. I don't always wear gloves when I should but packing grease is the kind of job where I would always use gloves.
