Been planing to do my rear bearings in the old GQ for a while now and this just got me inspired to have a go this weekend. Best video I’ve seen on doing it, well done mate.
@@SIDETRACKED i work at autobarn so get parts pretty cheap, but still rear bearings still expensive. Plus if you wanna pay for the rear axle tool to press out bearing is another $400. So shop price is pretty good.
I am in the process of putting my rebuilt GQ diff back in. I have all the axel parts painted up and the new bearings ready to go but I need to make up a Long dong silver to press the bearings and housing back on. You should hire out your Long Dong, Id be first in line. Good video and shows the process well . I do agree with @carton3417 about the outer bearing being pressed on from the inner race.
Don’t have to worry about end float? Been having a issue with rear wheel bearing’s not lasting very long and I was really told that you have to measure end float and shim it accordingly
Great video, thanks! I have a few technical questions on using a Y61 rear axle in camper trailer upgrade. Would love to reach out if free to answer a couple of questions?
Nice video! I just love the high standard of the finished parts that are ready to assemble. Just thinking, do you think the outer bearing should have been pressed on by its inner race to the half shaft, to try and save the rollers and outer race from damage? It appears the outer race is what pushed the outer bearing on if i'm not mistaken. Also, the paint you're using for your axle parts looks great! What paint are you using?
Yep, I'd probably agree with that having done it now. Regarding the paint, after A LOT of research I'm using POR 15. I'll be showing that when the chassis video is released.
Looking good mate. And the g60 is gonna be amazing. I was wondering where u got ur shop press, and what size (pressure t) did u go with. Cheers and keep up the amazing work! 👍🍺🎯
If you couldn’t afford new fold over locks, why would you use a previous fold. You could have used the opposite side. Have a think about how important that part is. I do enjoy your videos.
When is the next video of you plugging redarc and all the freebies they gave you ? Bet you never mention what things cost ...... Let me guess you don't care as you dont pay
@@SIDETRACKED ummm no thanks . At least you got your name correct . As you are side tracked constantly being sponsors little bitch👍must hurt to sit down.

When's the Defender returning? An update on the cambelt situation would be interesting.

What press are you using, if you don't mind me asking?
Custom socket, press tool is mint👌.
The press is the 30t metal master
Hey mate loved the video about to do mine actually very helpful , could I I have a link to you’re press please ? And how do ya rate it cheers
Glad it's helpful. The press is the 30t metal master one.
Cool 😎
Very informative. That half shaft is thick. Is it a H233 safari axle or H260?
H233 mate 👍
Did you use a 55mm or 56mm socket as mine measures 55.7mm across flats?
I used a 55mm impact socket and just touched the high points with a die grinder to get a 'tap on' snug fit
@@SIDETRACKED Thanks. I managed to get a 56mm from Sydney Tools. I'll make up an extension at work.
How long was the extensi9n bar you were swinging off to hit 450nm?
Oh shit, the torque wrench is about 700mm long
Hey mate just enquiring is that a standard GQ rear diff
I've swapped them out for GU housings and braced them
Would have loved to have seen footage of torquing up the rear axle strapped to the trailer 😂
Wasn't too much of a struggle, the rubber of the tyre gripped nicely. Just had to get the neighbour to help get the required torque.
