To all the people saying "there's a female Silver Surfer in the comics, how is it woke?", no one is denying that fact, but it's very telling that Feige and company opted to go with that one over the objectively more recognizable male version of the character. If it's not woke, then why are you consciously making a decision to avoid the Norrin Radd depiction and go with a version of the character that no one has heard of or wanted? Well all I can say is that I’m doing my part. The last Disney product I saw was Thor: Love and Thunder. Since then I’ve cancelled subscriptions and avoided everything even vaguely tied to Disney.
Yeah I think that is just about the right time. Thor (Not a hero I liked): Love and Thunder was the last film I watched from the MCU. She Hulk was the last series I watched from the MCU. I cut my subscription and refused to watch the films.

We aren’t saying that it violates canon, we’re saying that deliberately picking a version of the character that no one’s ever heard of just so you can cast a woman in the role to be your movie universe version is absolutely lame and a terrible decision indicative of significant leadership failures
It's also the fact that they would rather gender swap a popular character rather than use Nova or another of Galactus's female heralds. It shows that replacing established characters is an important factor in their decision making. The shareholders get what they deserver over the next year.

If Disney reboots the MCU with Peggy Carter, Riri Williams, She-Hulk, Kate Bishop, Lady Thor, and Black Widow, no one should have a problem because these characters exist in the comics, right? There's no agenda, right? Every character has alternate version. The point is, Norrin has appeared as Surfer in over 700 appearances since the 1960s. Shalla Bal appeared as Silver Surfer in one very terrible story called Earth X. I love that these people have the balls to tell US to pick up a comic.

This just shows that they haven't learned a damn thing from all their failures in 2023. With Peltz losing, there is nothing left to hope for in terms of quality. Best case scenario is Disney girlbosses themselves into bankruptcy and have to sell Marvel and Star Wars and maybe 20 years down the line someone who actually cares more about characters and story does them justice, but for now, it's over.

Just because a character existed in some form or fashion in a limited run or alter universe, doesn't mean that the fandom should simply accept said character taking the limelight.

90% is a very generous estimate. I was big on Marvel (Mostly X-Men and Punisher tbh, but I dabbled heavily in all of their offerings) and I never heard ANYTHING about that character. I'd go 95% or higher.

No one is disputing or denying that she exists in the comics. The PROBLEM is Marvel deliberately picked an alternate universe female version of the character who no one has ever heard of outside of Earth X over the more recognizable and more popular male version from the 616 universe that being Norrin Radd or even Nova if they really wanted a female herald of Galactus.
This was a conscious choice to look for a female version of the Silver Surfer and passing over the version people know. Proving they have not only learned nothing but are doubling down.
At this point it’s minimum quadrupling down

When your product isn't selling, either your products suck, or you're targeting the wrong audience. That is Disney right now. From 2021 to 2022, Disney lost 123 Billion dollars of its Market Value and their Shares went down by 44%.
Instead of changing course, Disney decided to change nothing, and doubled down on social messaging and targeting the 1% of the population that may be interested in that.
So far, 2023 has been the same as 2022 for the accounting department; four 200 million dollar productions tanked before they left the gate. They have lost Millions of subscribers off their streaming platform, its tv shows are way underperforming, and still, they go forward, creating shows the audience clearly doesn't want.
Warner Brothers, has lost less in their Superhero movies because their films didn't make as much as the MCU, and so made fewer fils.
Which brings us to Superhero Comics, specially the ones from DC and Marvel. The big two are leaning hard into a message of excessive and forced LGBT and minority representation. As a short cut to notoriety, both companies are allowing previously successful Superheroes to be appropriated by LGBT or Minority writers, changing everything about the character, and in essence, bastardizing the original to a point where the character is unrecognized, except for the stolen name. Simply creating new, well done, superheroes is so beyond the capabilities of these lesser creators, both companies have to steal and destroy their own properties decades in the making. A Fanfic writer will be given 8 pgs to write about heroes, and instead give you two guys or two girls taking a bubble bath.
Superhero fans buy comics to read stories of Good versus Evil, Science Fiction, Fantasy. We don't buy stories of self-inserting, fanfic writers whose lives consist of getting together at coffee shops to discuss the merits of one videogame over another, then going home to take a bubble bath, surrounded by scented candles, to text about games they forgot to mention.

For those who are younger, the backlash to Keaton was really due to the fact that he was almost exclusively known as a COMEDIC actor… and of course he had a weird look with his receding hairline and bug eyes.
