I’m not so sure they can… at this point most of the old guard are at Apple, Adobe, Netflix, etc, so they would first have to fire everyone and beg the people now adjusted to their new roles to come back. That’s a major hurdle.
Next you have AI. Hollywood has lowered standards, and AI is making it possible for anyone with a vision to make comparable movies from 50-100 years ago easily, and every day that windows widens. RUclips makes distribution possible for anyone, so no need for studio backing.
The music industry went through these changes in 2005 with the advent of USB/Firewire audio interfaces and Napster, and as a result many studios were dissolved and the business strategy for most artists changed from “record a demo to score a record deal” to “make something that stands on its merits and relentlessly promote it through performances and social media”. We still have our corporate produced Taylor Swifts and Drakes, but we have a lot more options now than just radio and Mtv.

And it's sad because many of the characters they own are beloved around the world and mean something to people who've been fans for decades before Disney and they just treat them like soulless products. It's sad.

After Walt Disney's death, Disney nearly bankrupted itself due to a string of failures from the 70's until the late 80's, and it was The Black Cauldron that served as a wake-up call for them, which lead to them making The Little Mermaid und ushering the beloved Disney Renaissance.
Now consider this, if you will:
Pick any one of Disney's financial failures from 2023 -- just one of them ended up losing them more money than all of their combined failures during their 18-year slump. Now they're casually churning out stinkers that would've bankrupted them 10 times over in their heyday.
Possibly the worst insult to injury is that The Black Cauldron is nowadays considered a fairly descent movie. The movie that nearly bankrupted them is still leagues more enjoyable than the unwatchable dreck they inflict upon their audience nowadays.
Wish we had another Eisner type to usher in a new Renaissance era and bring back 2D animation. Not as the only art, but equal alongside CGI and live action.

Everything through Endgame is good with Black Panther and Captain Marvel being the quality and story outliers. You can see the feminism sneaking in in movies like Ant Man 2 and Endgame but overall it's a great run of movies. The Winter Soldier and Guardians 1 won't be topped.

I have a solution:
1. Re-hire the writer of x-men "97....aside from the absence of shapely buttocks, the show was possibly the best thing DISNEY Marvel ever put out.
2. Hire a really great A-list tv actor and a massive bodybuilder, there are many to choose from and do a Hulk weekly tv show without all the CG. We all know the show from the 70's was a million times better than any current marvel shows.
#2 was good for the 70's but that approach won't work today.

Disney only sees a tree for how much lumber they can get out of it. They don't see it as a tree. They don't see I.P. as stories and potential stories. They only see it as a commodity.
But if they're being that clinical they also need to factor in brand damage. The IP is an asset, but each time they mine it, there's less in the ground. So if they somehow turn a profit on a project, they might mess up the main ip. With Star Wars, Rey becoming the messiah alters the meaning of the trilogy. With The Acolyte, if they make the Sith sympathetic, that blows back on the trilogy. And every time they create a film that extends an IP, they get further away from the IP. If you create sequels and prequels, then you have new crappy canon and fewer gaps in the narrative. If you do a live action remake, then you can't do it again.
With Mufasa, they need to turn a profit where the level of profit exceeds any damage done to the IP. And it's a total dead end. They already had a kids tv show follow up to the Lion King. Now they have a remake and a prequel. Eventually, they have to move on, right? right?
I'm just waiting for the X-Men/Marvel combo where the story's about how much Ironman and Magneto are attracted to each other.

Just bang out a script treatment in an hour or so and then go back and check the comment a month later and it's extremely highly voted with a hundred plus comments under it saying what a phenomenal read it was etc.

I remember a time when Disney just pooped out movies like All Dogs Go To Heaven 2 and Land Before Time 6, direct to the supermarket bargain bin. They basically got lucky that an utterly mid movie like Frozen ended up being break-out hit. Disney studios could just as easily end up back in that bargain bin.

Here are my suggestions for Disney: 1. You’ve mined Marvel out. There’s nowhere else left to go with that 2. There is a vast star was universe that doesn’t involve the characters from the original series. 3. Stop with the live action reboots already! Just re-release the originals if you want to make money from them and appeal to a new audience. It’ll be cheap and get you money. 4. Stop divesting your platform so hard that we don’t know what is or isn’t are Disney film anymore 5. Invest in lower budget films with interesting new voices and then dump only a part of your financing on maybe two or three mega budget films a year that are interesting and well written and directed

In order for them learn from their mistakes they would first need to acknowledge they own failures to begin with. Look no further than both the state of both Star Wars and Marvel. The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy is single handily the leading reason for the complete decline in both interest and valve in the brand. The trilogy went out of it's way to dimmish the previous stories and characters, all in the name of girl power nonsense, while sh**ting all over the fanbase and telling them all to get bent. And things really have not improved or changed in that regard in the slightest. Just continuing to double and tripling down. Same thing with the MCU. They abandonded and threw out everything that made the MCU so appealing to so many people, all in the name female empowerment and diversity over good characters and stories. People have covered both the decline of both brands, and it seems everyone other than Disney is capable of seeing the obivous and it really all boils down to pride. For Disney to admit they were in the wrong, it would also force them to admit all those people (aka: the fans) they blasted and called every buzz word under the sun were in the right all along, and the mouse is simply incapable of doing so. They would sooner continue to double and triple down, and burn all their franchises down into ash and dust then ever admit they were wrong.

All of Disney's best stuff is what much smarter and more talented people were able to put out near two decades ago. Unfortunately for modern day Disney, those same people are either dead, left on their own account, or were forcibly booted out as they no longer ticked the right boxes on the DEI chart.
For the first 80 years of cinema, you could get away with remakes. Robin Hood was remade probably dozens of times. I think the Wizard of Oz was made a couple times before the Judy Garland Version. If culture is transitory, then you can let it disappear and then retell it. But if you have physical media, then people can keep definitive works on their shelf. So then you have the problem of Disney provably failing to live up to the genius of yesteryear. Similarly, if you watch Indiana Jones and the last crusade the day before you watch the Dial of Destiny, then... ouch. Following giants is a tough act. Disney today risks being a bad cover band of Disney from yesterday. SImilarly, if you've watched Star Wars 20 times as a child or adult and you think it's genius, could you escape mimicking it? A lot of modern culture only has a toolkit of 1) remix or 2) imitate and subvert. It seems a different project from building something from scratch.

Since we're talking the cream of the crop of any and all demographics here then it only stands to reason that if you cancel 50+% of the good straight white male creators and replace them with other demographics of whom there is only a few of that are worth their salt so to speak as far as talent is concerned (due to them being literal minority groups meaning there is simply way less of a talent pool to skim off/pull from) of which those few exceptional ones are already represented in the industry (because the patriarchy is a delusion and we all actually do have equal rights and freedoms regardless of whatever nonsense the leftwing extremist activists spout) then you have nothing of equal value to replace them with other than untalented feckless diversity hires.
It's a numbers game. I'm not saying those groups are worse than straight white men in any way shape or form. I'm saying 90% of any demographic is gonna be failures and poseurs just the largest demographic is gonna have the largest amount of ppl/representation when you skim off the 10% that are capable of delivering the goods. 10% of 100 is 10 but 10% of 10 is only 1 meaning you have a 10 to 1 ratio in favour of the majority group. It's basic math and it's totally okay/normal.
If you went to china and cancelled all their best creators and gave those jobs to the few white dudes in the country you'd be in the exact same position.

Doesn't hurt the real people that worked to make the film good (if it even turns out to be as we haven't seen much yet) as they already got paid.
