The real stars of some of these start ups are the batteries. Man do these guys give the batteries a hard time. The starters also.
The GAZ 24, Battery almost cranked flat and the engine fired up. Awesome! (Timing a bit early) That ZAZ968 was also a stubborn POS to get going. You would go through 1 starter motor and 1 battery a year at least.

My father had a new 1975 wartburg it doesn't get has cold in the UK but the is no way it would start fist thing with out full choke it was also a great car in the snow
They were awful cars. Build quality was so bad and so agricultural inside.
@@Mind-your-own-beeswax BS. I drove Wartburgs in Finland with very cold winters, - 20 - 30 degrees C. When properly maintained, those cars never failed to start at low temperatures. I mean, starting an engine needs two things: fuel and spark. Two stroke doesn't have frozen oil to yank or high compression to start. The idiot who cranked that Wartburg didn't know what he was doing.
I do miss older cars, where you could crank them 5x in a row and start, without getting an essay of error codes like in the new cars.....
What manufacturer throws codes for starting in cold weather? If anything newer cars take less cranking time
