This song means a lot to me. I had a very religious upbringing; my parents are now divorced due to religious differences. They always tried to (and still do) impose their religious views on me. For a long time I believed in God and I was a creationist. I first heard this song when I was around 9 or 10. At that age, song lyrics never really resonated with me and I never tried to understand the meaning behind the music I listened to. But when I first heard this song, read and understood the meaning behind the lyrics, they made more sense to me than creationism ever did. And even though I still remained religious for a while, I will never forget the epiphany I had listening to this song. It was incredibly fascinating. It's interesting to think about how children respond when they're exposed to different views at young ages. We never studied evolution in school, but this song was sort of a gateway to a whole world that my parents would never expose me to. I have Bjork to thank for sparking my interest in biology and I'm studying it now in university. :)

    "À um sopro
    Da Mãe Oceânia
    Seus pés ligeiros
    Deixam pegadas em minha areia
    Vocês fizeram
    Bem para vocês mesmos
Desde que deixaram meu abraço úmido
    E rastejaram à terra
    Todo menino
É uma cobra, é um lírio
    Toda pérola
É um lince, é uma menina
    Doce como harmonia
    Feita em carne, oh
    Vocês dançam ao meu lado
    Crianças sublimes
    Você me mostra continentes
    Eu vejo ilhas
    Você conta os séculos
    Eu pisco meus olhos
    Falcões e pardais
    Correm em minhas águas
    Raias estão flutuando
    Pelo céu
    Pequeninos
Meus filhos e minhas filhas, oh
    Seu suor é salgado
    Eu sou o porquê

A poetic take on evolution! Only Björk would have thought of that! :D
The final sentence, "your sweat is salty / I am why", is weird on its own, but connecting that to "you left my wet embrace / and crawled ashore", I assume she means even though we no longer live in the ocean, the ocean (salt water) still lives in us in a way.

Trivia about "Medúlla" (2004), the album which contains this song: apart from a piano in one track and a gong in another, EVERY sound you hear is made from human voices. Apart from using her own vocals, Björk recruited full choirs and several singers, vocal artists and beatboxers.

Video stupendo, originale, bello. ...Oltre alla meravigliosa voce di quest'artista, cosa veramente rara ed originale nell'omologazione del panorama musicale delle canzonette.

what makes Bjork's music beautiful is the fact that it is about stuff that matters, stuff that will and has always been current... the things we dream of and cannot conceptualise or put into words, she does; she is like a pot of expression that sustains itself, feeding itself ingredients and cooking, always, at just the right temperature ... i would found a wiccan coven in her honour because She just has this interconnectedness and understanding of the Earth that we can all learn from

Wow. I never saw the video before. Its like when you read a book and expect little from the movie because the book was just so good, then somehow, the movie met expectations. That never yet happened to me with a book. This video did add to the song

never comparing gaga and bjork together, if you are art student , you'll understand why. both of them deliver their art in different way. different meaning. different view.
