The wahoo element bolt has been a work horse for me, highly recommend. Map and turn by turn are the only weak points, but it gives me all the data I need, is small but not too small, and might be the most reliable bike “thing” I’ve had for the last +3 years.
Watch it die on me now that I’ve made this comment.

My elment bolt has been going for 3 years strong and never seems to run out of battery! eg. 200km ride, at the end i still had 75% battery!! Thank you Wahoo for being my first choice so i didnt have to waste money on other units! Love from Down Under XD

Got the wahoo bolt v1 in 2019, handed it down to my 11 year old this year when I got the v2 bolt for free in exchange for a mate borrowing my bikebox. Tried Garmin but absolutely hated the touchscreens for the same reason as youself. Note: I loved the garmin advanced features like climbpro etc but now I just connect my fenix6 pro to the bars and use that in parallel to the wahoo. Never used the garmin mapping as I predominantly plan my routes in komoot. Wahoo syncs infinitely faster to both komoot and strava (map planning and post ride uploads) than garmin connect... and none of the very annoying "you have too many maps uploaded..." crap that garmin dealt me. Oh one more gripe, I dropped my garmin ONCE and it cracked the screen... Yes I'm clumbsy but the bolt lasted years of abuse and is still going fine.

Same here, have Bolt for over 4 years and it such a great piece of equipment I can't even complain. The battery lasts pretty much the same as on day one, no unexpected shutdowns or freezes, it simply works. Compared to Garmin 520 which i had before, it is day and night. I see no reason to switch for another computer as long as this one lasts.

Same! The mono color bolt for 3 years and it does everything I need. The map and turn by turn are the only weak points, but I honestly don’t use it often enough to worry about it. It’s crazy strong too, it has a cracked screen now after a couple minor wrecks on my mtb, but still going strong even in the rain.

@@pl4free the display is very good and the map is defenitelly more legible then the one from my garmin friends. The battery life is less because of the brighter display (and the battery unit is not as good as it could be) but if you are doing a 10+ hour ride you can put it it battery saver mode.

@@pl4free I have yet to put mine at 100% screen brightness even in the summer. Battery life is worse than most competitors, but I don't ride for more than 8 hours in one go so I don't really care. The usability and functions are well worth the trade off for me.
Alternatively you can also attach a power bank and load it while you ride, but at that point I would also rather get a different bike computer. Imo it's hard to really go wrong with most name brand offers these days. They all have their pros and cons.

Have had zero issues seeing it during my rides. Rode 6180 miles last year and never missed a beat. Battery isn't an issue for me as I have never gone below 60% on my rides. Average 3-4 hours a ride. I'm used to charging things nowadays so no big deal charging after my rides. Obviously it won't be for everybody especially if you do constant epic length rides and bike pack. Never had one issue with my Wahoo, and I now have 3 of them. The first was the big blocky one, and my wife uses that. I have the two newer ones, the super small one for rides where I know where I'm going (most of them), and the one slightly larger in case I will need use maps.

I'm the same as you. Id probably replace the battery and have already made a hack for the worn buttons (which is why I'd arguably go a total touch screen next time) instead of upgrading if I can help it...but would probably consider a wahoo..given that it'd be a second hand buy an older Wahoos will probably be better than garmins for how they connect with phones. Currently having to create routes in Garmin connect and swap them over is a pain...but I don't do it enough to be an issue tbh.

been using the wahoo element for a few years now and love it. it has all the features i need, good battery life, easily customizable pages including maps/routes, a planned workout page that integrates very well with TR workouts, and you can create as many additional pages with as little as 1 metric or up to like 10 metrics on them. Plus with the custom pages, you can have multiple saved pages, but enable/disable the ones you want to use at any time. So for crits i may only have 1 page enabled so its always on that screen, but on long group rides or workouts you can turn on the other pages to see different information that may be relevant to what you want for that day.

Repeating multiple comments on here already, but Wahoo ftw. I had the original ELEMNT until my dog destroyed it, got the BOLT as a replacement and now have the ROAM 2. I've been running Beta for most of the time I've had it and only had one crash where I lost a ride. In my experience, Wahoo's are rock solid while I've talked to plenty of people with Garmin and you never know when it just won't record a ride or an update completely borks your computer.
On a side note, Wahoo's customer support is top notch. When my dog chewed up my original ELEMNT they actually offered to let me send it in to them and see if it could be repaired. Unfortunately it had already gone in the trash, because what company is going to offer to repair an electronic device my dog chewed up, and of course trash pickup was that same day. But that offer cemented me as a customer probably for as long as I'm riding.

It's magic. The only improvement that I would make would be for the unit to change screens faster. Definately a delay once you hit the button, so bouncing back and forth on the sceens is a bit of a pain. Glad to hear that prices for these seem to be coming down with the Trimm.

My question about the Trimm, can I download TP workouts to appear on the screen? I look dat their site and I can't find any info. Thanks for any info on it.

I tried a few out, and without a doubt the best one I used and purchased, was the Wahoo Bolt V2. The interface, hands on operation, with or with out fingered gloves, the lack of a useless touch screen, just the right size, all made this the hands down winner for me. Not saying the only good bike computer, I'm not brand loyal or sponsored, as there are several that will do the job effectively, but it does it better than any other one..

The Trimmone lite is sold as a unit and with an option for the cadence sensor additionally. Cadence sensor says it doubles as a speed sensor if you rotate the battery cover? I assume that's for (bad) speed/cadence indoor computer training setups and it logs your outdoor speed via GPS and cadence via the additional sensor?

I raced throughout the 80s and 90s. I used an Avocet. Still have it. I've been thinking about dusting things off and riding again. I just looked at the OneLITE and the speed/cadence sensors seem like a big nope to me. Why would anyone want that hunk hanging on their hub? Would it even work with old-style Campy Record? The small ring the Avocet used was sleek and fairly non-obtrusive.

LOL... My first cycling "computer" was and analog front wheel odometer. But the worst were the early wired Cateyes with HR in the late 90's, very erratic HR tracking.
Now I use a Garmin 840 solar, but also have the Bolt 2. Use the 840S mainly because of the longer battery life - too many things to charge now.

I got a Karoo Hammerhead 2 last year and I love it so far. It was on sale for around $400 cad which was cheaper than a comparable Garmin. I always had a Garmin 500 size computer and the only thing I miss is the less frequent charging of the Garmin. Still, I can get 2 to 3 rides out of the Karoo (typical 2 to 3hr rides). The edge 500 did everything I needed except navigation, but I enjoy using the Karoo more. I'm using a Garmin mount adapter and have not had an issue with it coming off... guess I could use the supplied mount if it were an issue. I like the look of the slimmer design of the Trimm, but I doubt I'd switch until it's time for a new computer.

It does not have a mapping feature, but I pretty much know where I'm going. If I get lost, I have my phone. I paid a little more, but now it's under $100, which was important given the price of Garmin head units. I didn't need color screen or map, but you can get that with an upper level model. Some odd button locations, but you get used to it after a few rides. Just my $0.02. Thanks for the review.

Good thing you have good spatial IQ. So many of my riding buddies don't. Which seems to coincide with a low technical IQ. Weirdly they all insist on the "best" Garmin money can buy, but only use speed, ride time, and maybe cadence. Not an issue on road rides with good cell coverage but on our gravel rides without cell coverage, riders getting lost, missing turns is frustrating because they don't download the gpx files beforehand...and not knowing how to use gps in general 😅

As I’m aging and my eyesight is getting worse I’m in need of a bigger screen and as I’ve run mine for about 3 years now and sadly the battery life is diminishing so I’m looking for a replacement. People bragging that their computer last for 3 years without problems...
It's likely a fluke but my Edge 705 has over 15 years. The battery lasts only 6-8 hours (depending on the temperature, originally it could last almost 15 hrs) but I have a spare one to swap out (this is pre-anti-repair era, so you just need to unplug a standard connector).
No pesky touchscreens, all the data I ever needed, turn-by-turn navigation, colored map. And you can get the map from anywhere, e.g., hyper-detailed topo map exported from OSM (includes benches or springs in the woods, depending on you local OSM community). The only downside is that it has Ant+, not BT, so newer power meters, etc. can't be connected.
I honestly think that, for the most part, the evolution of cycling computers went backwards and is only now starting to pick up some forward momentum. E.g., companies advertising turn-by-turn navigation or colored screen as some "special feature".
