This is the stuff that keeps me using Dan as a resource for my 360. Bought the Launch 431 on his recommendation and now I know how to set the “ mysterious “ PIS myself 👏👍😎 2 thumbs up Danno
Hi @jimcear1766, nice to know that the "Launch 431" is working perfectly for you. I was looking to buy a new one but there are a lot of options: Launch X431 Pro 3, 4, 5, Mini Pro, PAD III, PAD IV, PAD V, etc. Which one do you recommend to me? Thank you!
I love that you guys dispel the fears about exotic ownership and show the average person we can complete these projects on our own! I’m a few months away from my first Ferrari, I grow more confident with these videos! Looking for a F430 ……. Also as a new “Loeper” I’d love to see my name listed amongst the brethren on your videos… you know, vanity and all Thanks for these amazing videos team!
Dan I can't thank you enough for posting this. I know my shifts could be tighter on my f430 with the F1 transmission I figure most likely any service center would not want to calibrate these properly because it would mean you got to come in for a clutch every few years. Not to say that's a common practice but now I know I can check the teacher. I own a 2007 f430 with 12,000 miles on it the clutches at 45% so whoever own this car before me definitely they had interesting driving techniques to put it lightly. However I would like to try and stop the wear and tear on the clutch and this provides the perfect solution for that without going to the dealership. I'll buy that scan tool and put this in the hands of my mechanic can't thank you enough Dan this was something quite often crossed my mind as I knew these shifts on the f430 F1 transmission could be cleaned up a little bit.
100000% agree with you that an incorrect PIS setting has turned many people off the F1 trans! When it is dialled in, it really is a good system - PIS makes a huge difference!
@@normalguysupercarYou’ll see me commenting on a lot of your videos as thechallengestradale. That’s my other channel that has like no videos. Anyways, what’s odd is that mine also did not show any RPMs either with looking at the primary angular speed but it was definitely creeping forward. Moved it back and settled on 3.98mm and it’s perfect. 19 year old clutch with 65% wear, so mine might be different than other cars with newer clutches. Thanks again for the video.
Great info, question: 1.Can any X431 do this? There are many sub models of the X43, 2.Do you have to pay a yearly subscription to keep using it? Thanks
Very Nice informative video. I know this is an older post.....I have a 2007 Maserati with the F1 gearbox. Is the procedure the same for adjustment? Thanks!
Dan great videos you post. Has made me more comfortable in looking to buy the 430. Suggestion. Can you put links to your for sale cars as to what you've done to the car. That way you don't have to search your videos to see the repairs. Thank-you for all the great videos

Like all cars - some are good and some bad - I had constant issues with my 06 Gallardo Spider - moved to a few cars between, but have a 360 spider now hand have had VERY few issues in my ownership. Probably just confirms we should keep cars that run good, cause you never know about the next one ;)
Years ago I had the Chance to get a Silver 04 Gallardo for around 89k. At the time I was not financially ready for it, could I have gotten it Probably, could I have properly maintenance it? Absolutely not.
is your Gallardo a manual? If so, it may require less maintenance. However, the F1 gearbox in the Ferrari, and e-gear in the Gallardo (and Murcielago), and DuoSelect in the Maserati, and CambioCorsa in the Maserati, and the Aston Martin Sportshift II, and the BMW SMG etc are all Magnetti Marelli controlled clutch/shift mechanisms (i.e TCU, sensors, actuators). So an e-gear Gallardo and an F1 430 have mechanically different gearboxes, but the sensors and actuators and TCU are all Magnetti Marelli based and of equal reliability, and operational ability/smoothness.Even then, there are some mechanical crossovers- i.e Valeo supply clutches to both; the friction plate on a 599 is the same as on a Murcielago just as an example I know from personal experience. I've had a few different models of cars with these robotic clutch gearboxes, and I quite like them (prefer them to the newer DCT's where you can't feel a shift).
Dan, appreciate the video. Would like to buy a Launch X431 scanner but my Google search provides results that look different than the device you use in your video. Can you provide a more complete model number and/or link to the scanner? Thanks.
really good vidéo , but I have a question , I have a same Launch X-431 and I have a problem with my gear box ; when i put my car in gear 1 or reverse i accelerate the car stalls before that i changed the brake pads, i bled the brakes and since i have this problem with the ASR MSP light and a damper on the dashboard screen how can i find the exact problem to repair is the same engine on a Maserati 4.2 Duoselect F1 thank
just read your codes- I had the damper come up on my 4.2 Duo Select and I used the Autel AP200 (£68 on amazon) and it said it was one of my two wheel sensors on the front left wheel. Perhaps when you changed your brake pads you broke a wire or pulled one of the wheel acceleration sensors (there are two on each wheel)or perhaps just the movement/action of jacking/lifting the vehicle stretched a cable from the sensor that may have been brittle etc (from heat/age). Easy to tell if you use a good diagnostic computer. The launch would tell you this, but so does the much cheaper Autel AP200 (which also gives you clutch wear, but you can't adjust the PIS, for that you need to spend more than £68...)
Welcome! Can you help me? I have a Ferrari F430 from 2006. It's been replaced: - F1 battery - hydraulic oil (tried several types) - Launch x431 deflation - clutch bleeding - relay - F1 pump motor - installed the e-diff electronics (Swiss company) If I drive a little bit, it can't turn back on. Especially on 2 and a4 the problem. It lights up with a gearbox fault. F1 hydraulic pressure is slow to recover. I'm dead. I have no idea. Have a nice day! Hi: Zoltán Pap (Hungary)
@@normalguysupercar Thanks. Can you guide me how can we determine the correct value based on the clutch wear ? Is there any source for that, or we need to try and decide ?
Hi, my Quatroporte (2005) for some reason is running very hi on engine revolution. I'm talking about almost 3k rev at only 50 mph on the 6 gear. I've seen on youtuve videos that other Maserati don't even reach 1,900 rev at 55mph on 6 gear but my car every single gear is very hi on revolution, feels like every gear reach hi rev with little gas and the transmissions its not slipping or showing any trouble signs. I just bought the car and don't have any previous experience with Maserati. I can't drive over 50mph because the engine is too high on revolutions!!! Any help will be appreciated.
That’s such a great video!!!! Always wondered how that works and I have the launch pad for years lol. Question, would adjusting PIS throw off future readings on clutch wear index? Like if u tighten it would it actually think u have a newer clutch coz the contact point is a lot closer? My old f430 stalled frequently, the old shop adjusted the PIS until it’s normal and doesn’t stall when I try to back up etc. but when I sold it the buyer’s ppi shop said it has 0% clutch which makes no sense coz the car doesn’t slip, and when I bought it a year earlier it had 73%.
You should read Craig waterman’s info on this topic on the Maserati/Ferrari forums, you are always having to adjust the PIS to tighten it up on these cars as the clutch ages.
Hello and thank you for your vieo, I recently purchased a 2005 unfa f430 with only 6000 km (3800 miles). I have a problem, when I engage first gear or reverse gear and give gas the car jerks and the engine shuts off. To start I have to slowly touch the gas until it starts moving or it shuts off on me. With launch 431 I checked the clutch and it has 20% wear, so almost new. I adjusted the PIS as per your video and the shifting is better, but the starting problem remained. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks
Depends what year - anything after 01 you can. 01 is 50/50 - early TCUs cannot be updated, later ones can. Anything pre 01 you can’t - you’d have to swap out the TCU
Correction, you should do this when the clutch is as warm as it's going to get under normal driving conditions. Otherwise, if you really push the car you can overheat the clutch due to thermal expansion. Just kinda warm is not good enough.
Didn't work for us this. Car stuck on 5.08 and Launch refused to change it 🤷🏻♂️ Edit: OK managed to get Launch to work. You have to keep pressing the blank button on the eight until "write configuration" shows up and then press that. Car drives better now!

how about performing the procedure jacked up & dtermine the difference in grab point from wheels spinning in the air to not spinning on the ground
