    Kojima convinced Harry Gregson-Williams to do MGS2's soundtrack by sending him a collage of his favorite tracks from some of the movies Harry had composed for and saying he would love to have the guy making a similar Hollywood action score for his game. Not only that work, but IIRC Harry managed to write an incredibly fitting soundtrack despite working from his home in the UK with minimal context or direction from the actual game.
    Easter eggs in this episode from the top of my head:
    -You can teach the parrot to ask about Ames.
    -You can hear the parrot give foreshadowing.

    Every soldier in the game has a unique dogtag, and each difficulty as an entirely new set of unique dogtags.
    To get them from grunts/special targets, you need to initiate a 'hold-up' have them hand it over. You probs wouldn't be too bothered about collecting, but you might wanna try a hold up just to see how it works, it's pretty clever (like lots of things in MGS)

  • @Jake_Northcott
    @Jake_Northcott 15 дней назад +5

    If you're noticing that people sort of talk differently in this game compared to MGS1, it might be because of the difference in translation styles. MGS1 was translated by one guy who made a big effort to change things to sound more naturalistic in English while also adding in realistic-seeming military jargon (the terms codec and "OSP" both originate from him), whereas MGS2 went for more of a literal translation. MGS characters have always been kind of poetic-sounding, but I find the difference particularly notable in a conversation like Fatman's.

    • @zummone
      @zummone 15 дней назад +2

      If MGS2 features a literal translation in contrast to 1, then by all means call me Hideo Kojima, because the two statements share about the same level of accuracy.

      @@Jake_Northcott For future reference, they are both notorious liars and you shouldn't trust a word they say. Anyway yeah, it's not that MGS2 has a more direct translation than 1, it's really just poorly written in comparison.

    • @CrazeeAdam
      @CrazeeAdam 15 дней назад +2

      @@zummone I find it more that, on purpose. This game is supposed to be a commentary on a lot of things, sequels being one. MGS2 is still really well written IMO, it's more so off the wall with themes and things it's getting across compared to the more straightforward 1 and 3 of course.

    • @0Fyrebrand0
      @0Fyrebrand0 15 дней назад +1

      The difference in voice acting quality between MGS1 and MGS2 is jarring. MGS1 really holds up excellently today, whereas MGS2 is a mess. Granted, that's deliberately done for effect in many places, which I won't go into due to spoilers -- but it doesn't excuse everything. The writing all through this game is awkward, non-stop.

    It's kinda funny that Fatman, despite his bizarre mannerisms, was always meant to be the most normal guy from Dead Cell. You have women who can't die and have bullets bend around her accompanied by actual vampire, and then, as far as the Dead Cell members who were cut from the game goes, also 100 years old soldier and martial arts guy capable of running on walls and ceilings.
    I think the idea was that Fatman, despite being just a regular guy with no superhuman abilities, ironically was the most monstrous of the team, caring about nothing more then blowing things up and upstaging his former mentor, while Fortune and Vamp at least have tragic backstories to explain their reasons for doing what they do.

    Just when you think this series can't get any weirder, it gives you vampires, and fat guys on rollerskates.
    If I recall right, If we contacted Stillman or Pliskin enough times beforehand they eventually give you insights into Fatman, like that he manicures his hands and practices them by reassembling and disassembling his Glock over and over.
