Which Interior Is The Best? 2024 Tacoma or 2024 Ranger?

  • Join me for a snowy look at the interiors of the 2024 Ranger and 2024 Tacoma. Ford set up this demo to show that the Ranger has more towing tech (trailer backup assist) than the Tacoma, but personally I prefer to backup my trailers un-assisted so instead I filmed an interior deep dive comparison! Which interior is more your taste? I like some features of each. The Ranger's rear bench doesn't 60/40 fold which is sad, but the LCD cluster and infotainment systems are more intuitive. The Tacoma has a more truck like look inside while the Ranger looks more like Ford's international car line. Ford offers three different engines with up to 405 HP while Toyota has settled on just a 2.4L turbo with or without hybrid...

Really smart by Ford to enable carrying 4'x8' sheet goods flat. While I'd hardly ever need it, when we talk $40-50k vehicles they should have maximum utility.

The Ford-Toyota rivalry goes deeper than you think. I used to sell international Ranger variants to NGOs in Africa and it is ALL about taking down the Hilux. Ford wants nothing more than to displace the Hilux as the default choice in the developing world.

As far as aesthetic, the Ford has a more timeless and classy design that I would be happy to look at every day, whereas the Toyota looks cool - for now. All the exaggerated edges and features of the Toyota seem more likely to age poorly or go out of fashion. The interior of the Ranger looks really, really nice to me. Toyota interiors are about average and a bit on the dull side, the exterior styling (front end) looks dated and is reminiscent of the older Dodge Ram pickups with the protruding front end. Toyota really played it safe with the overall styling, perhaps too safe. The Ranger looks very good inside and out and my sources say the body is now Aluminum which is a big plus. Addendum: The body is partially Aluminum including doors, fenders, hood and some other pieces but the cab and bed apparently are not. Bummer.

Really depends on Ford’s build quality and reliability. Ford has been quite shoddy there for quite a bit of time. If you get one and are going to keep it, I don’t see how the Toyota wouldn’t be the right choice.

I’m curious to understand better what build quality problems you’re referring to. I just finished cross shopping trucks for my business and I found Ford’s build quality to be excellent, better in many cases than Toyota. I can give you examples of what I found.

@@gettcouped Thanks for getting back to me. Yes Ford has slipped in the last few years for sure but nothing that can’t/isn’t being turned around. I’m a big Chev and Ford buyer/leaser for our two businesses. I really like the Fseries Ford trucks and have had great luck with them. Age here is 67 and have been buying and leasing trucks for over 40 yrs. My son and nephew are taking on more of the business now. Anyway you have a great night and thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

When Toyota trucks were made in Japan, Toyota stood out. However this Tacoma has so much cost cutting. The finishing engineering was done by Americans, and it's assembled in Mexico. The American Engineers from both companies are great, Toyota doesn't hire Americans superior to other companies 😂. Ford pays their American Engineers more, and the cost cutting from Toyota, in order to get high margins is going to bite them, like it is with the Tundra. Now if this Tacoma was built in Japan, with it's circle of amazing suppliers, I would buy the Tacoma with no doubt. However, the current Tacoma gets part made by the same people that supply the big three. Judging by the current issues on the Tundra, I'm guessing they didn't do enough beta testing like they would for Japanese built cars.
I've owned my Toyota Truck for 31 years. I'm open-minded to maybe replace it with a Ranger. The new Toyota fans who never experienced Toyota at their peak, will continue to blindly buy them at any price.
My prediction is that no matter what midsize truck you buy, reliability will be average. Buy what you like.

People really seem to look at some Ford's with a lot of copium. This is ugly and it's old already and (more?) shame on Dearborn for like literally putting America last. Speaking of, Colorado is pretty clearly the design winner in this segment as it stands. Honestly the Frontier may then be closest. The Taco really isn't that great...it's like just short of being futuristic enough and/or TFLtrucks-y enough.

Luckily for me style means nothing. Reliability means everything.
I've owned 3 Fords, 2 gms, 1 Mazda and Toyota.
Last two Fords were garbage, my 450 needed two engine rebuilds, rear end redone once, front end redone once. My edge was in the shop every two weeks with a new problem or recurring problem.
My 2006 ranger with 214k is needing repairs although it was just gifted to us so we shall see how well it holds up.
My gms both quit at 250k kms. My Mazda truck was old with 350k and motor seized.
My tacoma only ever saw a shop after serious offroading, was written off 2weeks ago and they valued it at 30k. 205k km on it, 12years old. The resale value and reliability is all people should be looking for it a truck. If you truly want style just build it up.yourself.
