I don't believe that it is accurate to state that Honda and Toyota introduced their new upscale marques with warmed over existing mainstream models. The Legend and the LS400 were designed from scratch to set a new standard for Acura and Lexus. It is true that following models may have been related to Honda and Toyota vehicles, but the top models were never clones of models in the mainstream vehicle lineup, and in the case of the Lexus LS this is still true.
But Lexus is no longer relevant They let others surpass them. Now they’re so far behind that no matter what they do they cannot compete with the rest of the pack. They’re fighting a wall with weak assets and constantly losing
Lexus started with the LS and the ES. The LS was unique, but the best seller in the lineup was the ES which was of course based on an existing Toyota similarly Acura started with the legend and the Integra, the legend was related to a rover 800, but the Integra was related to other existing Honda platforms and was always the better seller… since then, both brands have sold significantly higher volumes in the products related to other mainstream counterparts.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide but clearly that was a mistake for Lexus. A gussied up Camry isn’t luxury. If I wanted a gussied up Camry I’d get a top end Camry. And the Integra being related to the civic is fine as the civics a class leader, the benchmark, the vehicle that transcends the mainstream compact sedan segment. That why the Integra can get away with it If a mainstream platform transcends the segment only then is it okay for luxury brands to share platforms. Like the aviator or integra. Acura and Lexus have a lot of catching up to do. But then again, you are paying like 20 plus grand more to get the top of the line g80. Top Lexus es is in the low 50s and Tlx type S in the high 50s. g80 is about 80k. So definitely a huge price jump. As far as looks I think the Acura looks the best but, interior space is horrible. And the Tech is much better in the G80. Lexus is very outdated compared to the other brands. But out of all 3 when it comes to reliability I will give that to the Lexus.
Disagree. I do prefer the old DESIGN but the new one has some major benefits IMO. First off the OLED makes these new screens some of the nicest to use and look at in any car. Mercedes Hyperscreen and BMWs latest stuff look cheap when you start using it because it's really obvious at night it's a cheap LCD and the bezels are massive. Genesis did a good job of making the bezels minimal. Second this screen is technically integrated better into the dash in respect to the old center infotainment. Third the new steering wheel is REALLY nice. It's the perfect amount of sportiness and luxury look blended together. Its two tone look and the materials used are perfection. They did get rid of the 3D thing but that's a bit of a gimmick and for a decent amount of people it hurts or bothers to use. A nice OLED and a HUD is better for most people. Fourth the new interior has much improved RGB ambient lighting and is more impressive. Design I do like the old one more but the new interior is still excellent and much better looking than the tacked on BMW screen, or the cheap LCDs in Benz Hyperscreen with massive bezels, or Audis stuff which also has massive bezels and odd shapes/dash like in the all new A5 sedan hatchback thing. This is an excellent interior for 70K

I absolutely disagree. This is a 3.5 engine. Almost 400 crank hp, fuel economy isn't even on mind when purchasing performance focused engine. Show me any 360+ hp sedan that gets a good mpgs?
20mpgs is very inconsistent at all. On paper is one thing but daily driving is different. The 540I ain't getting better mpgs than this trust me
The fuel economy doesn't bother me as much as the cost of premium fuel over regular ... but that still didn't stop me from getting my G80
@@mattheww7743 same but G70 3.3T
I’d like to see Genesis hide the radar cruise control sensor better in the G80. It’s so obvious.
For the looks and the 375 hp in the 3.5, I'm 100% SOLD on this car. I'm sad they updated the interior to look like dog shit, but I'm still going to get one, for the powertrain alone.
Imo they made the interior styling WORSE than before the refresh
Too much chain link fence in the front. Still everything else looks pretty good.
The coupe
Aside from just preference, is there a reason to choose a trunk over a liftback?
Excellant point. Lift/hatch much more practical. Perhaps a trunk opening aids rigidity, less drumming?
The door panels don’t look as nice as the pre-refresh model
Is the Nappa Leather seating only Available if you get the 3.5T Engine?
Yes, as part of the Prestige Package ....
Talking about all the falws with space and comfort because of its shape just shows why consumers arent buying sedans like they use too. Such impractical vehciles. Style over substance.
That literally goes for any sedans including lexus and Germans. The sedans obviously not gonna have as much space and sedans and won't fit big families with dogs. Sedans are for 1-3 people maybe 4 that's it. If you have small family or 2 people, it's perfect because it's much cheaper to maintain and fill up gas tank is cheaper. I prefer sedans over SUV any day
Too bad the fuel economy sucks. I wish was a hybrid

Thought they did a refresh a few months back?
I don't believe that it is accurate to state that Honda and Toyota introduced their new upscale marques with warmed over existing mainstream models. The Legend and the LS400 were designed from scratch to set a new standard for Acura and Lexus. It is true that following models may have been related to Honda and Toyota vehicles, but the top models were never clones of models in the mainstream vehicle lineup, and in the case of the Lexus LS this is still true.
But Lexus is no longer relevant
They let others surpass them.
That why the Integra can get away with it
If a mainstream platform transcends the segment only then is it okay for luxury brands to share platforms. Like the aviator or integra. They can get away with reusing mainstream platforms since they already transcend the segment

@@naveenthemachineyou’re speaking on too subjective of a topic , far too definitively.
Where's the rear seat entertainment package
Acura and Lexus have a lot of catching up to do. But then again, you are paying like 20 plus grand more to get the top of the line g80. Top Lexus es is in the low 50s and Tlx type S in the high 50s. g80 is about 80k. So definitely a huge price jump. As far as looks I think the Acura looks the best but, interior space is horrible. And the Tech is much better in the G80. Lexus is very outdated compared to the other brands. But out of all 3 when it comes to reliability I will give that to the Lexus.
Lexus ain’t ever gonna catch up. They’re just too far behind to a point where they have to discontinue the brand just like infiniti almost did.
Why do you have to call the sunroof a moonroof?
they ruined the interior design
New wheel > Old wheel
New screen > Old "3D" screen
Are you buying this car tho?
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 OLED or not, this new screen setup looks cheap and does nothing but mimic what we've already seen from Mercedes and BMW. Prior interior had an artisanal quality to it, much more pleasing to the eyes than this new one...

@@5hunnidCG the Germans are still “better” but remember you’re going to pay significantly more comparably equipped for that little bit better polish in the bmw or Mercedes or Audi
I'm really loved this car and I should buy this.
G80 is much better looking than the GV80 coupe
Did they do away with the 3D instrument cluster
They sure did, unfortunately! This new dual screen setup is cheaper to assemble and looks the part as well... Pre-refresh model interior looked great, there was no need to change it.
The new OLED is horrible, like every other company in the industry Genesis follows this trend. The gauge cluster screen is not centered now and the wheel comes in your sight. The old design is better and in better focused position.
The new wheel is better than the old anyway.
Hopefully Genesis has solved some issues in this new model, like the rattling sunroof 😢.

@@i.d.6492 very funny, I own 2021, 2.5t , and I sit inside the new model in the showroom recently and I saw the difference in the position of the screen comparing to the old one (21-23) and I didn’t like it and that is my opinion about the car, and if you don’t like stop commenting like a shit you are too, as if you own the company or as if you are the one who designed the car. Rest in peace Lexus. Genesis has objectively ended them.
It’s safe to say Alex that Lexus ostensibly no longer exists. The less said about Lexus the better. Do us a favor Alex and don’t bother wasting your time reviewing Lexus products anymore. They’re all too mediocre and they’re just uncompetitive
I think as long as they are selling to the general public in decent numbers it makes sense to continue reviewing them. It’s not about good or bad, but reviewing products that people are spending their money on.
But what’s the point of reviewing a mediocre car? Doesn’t matter if it sells
The Mitsubishi mirage surprisingly sells well but Alex never reviewed it and for good reason: it’s dreadful in every aspect
Same thing applies to Lexus. Theres a good reason they’re considered the Mitsubishi Mirage of luxury brands
If I were Alex and asked to review a Lexus I’d take it and garage it for a week and pretend that I forgot to review it because let’s be honest: I could spend the time I would have allocated to review a Lexus on something more interesting and attention worthy
Lexus is best selling Asian brand man. Genesis is what infiniti and Acura need to worry. Your statement of Lexus products are not competitive is not valid if your never drive one or own one. I have a 2020 Genesis g90 ultimate and I can tell you it’s not better than my 13 LS460L that I had. The G90 is quieter but LS460 had better ride and stiffer build quality. Both brand are extremely competitive and competition are good to bring better of company that benefits us consumers. Let me ask you. What car you drive?
@@naveenthemachine I made the point clear. It absolutely matters if it sells because that is what is popular or at least getting people’s hard earned money so would be a disservice not to cover such a product to highlight what is good and bad about it.
