Professional road cycling pundit Lanterne Rouge presents highlights of stage 18 / résumé étape 18 / resumen etapa 18 of the Tour de France 2021. Tadej Pogačar (UAE-Team Emirates) wins the stage followed by Jonas Vingegaard (Team Jumbo-Visma) and Richard Carapaz (INEOS Grenadiers). Tadej Pogačar (UAE-Team Emirates) keeps the yellow jersey followed by Jonas Vingegaard (Team Jumbo-Visma) and Richard Carapaz (INEOS Grenadiers).
Pog:"Why should I be worried?"
Peloton:"No argument here"
“Midnight raids by the police?” “Oh shit yeah”
With Roglic out, he can play.
@Leona Bastet I remember that, Roglic was later accused of not being aggressive enough... He has had a nightmare TDF2021
That was an idiotic question ...
@Leona Bastet he didn't wipe the floor tho it was under a minute

Pogaçar, probably
I can’t wait for the tt where pogi just pulls up on a mountain bike and is just like “wanted to challenge myself ya know”
He’s going to see his aas
"Darkness my old friend, GG Enric" - chapeau sir, chapeau.
Yeah, I did a spit-take when I saw that!
Had to screenshot that one for posterity. Such a great sequence.
Hahaha I really had to laugh out loud and then went to search for a top comment mentioning it
The best part is Pogacar sprinting up the mountain and the on screen stat giving him 9km/h
Imagine how many extra seconds that tuft of hair out of the helmet has already cost him 🤣🤣
Laurent Fignon 2.0
That tuft is actually the source of his power. So much so that even his domestiques are equipping themselves with a tuft of greatness
Hairodynamics are the new marginal gains
lol i know he always hs that up there huh hahaha, i wanto like cut or tuck it in.
Nah bruh, it acts as a cooling fin for him
I liked that trash edit very much.
got hyped instantly
What they said, meaaaaan edit.
Pogačar is amazing. When I watched that interview, I was shocked at the stupidity of the question, and clearly Pogačar was too! He handled it with grace though.
yeh i agree, people think it's rude and arrogant. But the context of questions considering the circumstances is just ridiculous
@@andeeguy1260 who's here after 2023 where jonas got buttraped
now 2 years later...
@@Flewty Now years later... he wasn't worried and then he won. People are pretending he said "Vingegaard will never be able to beat me at anything ever for the rest of his life" but he was quite obviously saying he wasn't worried about that edition of the tour, which he had very clearly won at that point. I enjoy their rivalry and I prefer it now that it's more competitive but this is trying to fabricate drama out of the best answer he could give to an awkward question.
Hope you are healing well Lanterne.
Here here
he is rubbing Vaseline on his body
Valverde 10th - pretty good for a guy almost twice Pogacar's age.
I agree, but not fully. Age doesn't mean much. Chris Horner could do it at 43 years and only really stopped when he couldn't recover fully from a crash. Valverde can even be better, he is only 41 years. BTW keep your eyes on Chris Froome, if he is able to complete his rehabilitation, he will have another 6-7 years in his career and the young guys will be in proper jeopardy.
@@crispusmahea2135 Ha. Froome is "riding out his contract". He's proven his strength of character by hanging in and doing what he can for his team and helping that spectator/rider that came to grief yesterday, but he doesn't have another 6-7 years left in his career. He's now 2 years into his rehabilitation. How many more years does he need to get back to where he will be "putting the young guys in proper jeopardy"? 2 more? 3 more? And he'll get stronger as he gets older, all the while rehabbing a severe career-altering injury? That's what you're saying, right?
You're a delusional fanboy. Come back to Earth.
@@joesutherland2017 I agree with you, he has a contract & he's proven alot by hanging in there and actually completing the tour. Did you know that some people were afraid that he'd leave on his hands and knees? Instead the guy was pulling turns in front of the peleton today! Listen if he completes his rehabilitation successfully, the he has more than 7 years on his career and yes he can get stronger with age, it's all down to the nutrition, medical & training regime. I like to use the example of Chris Horner who won the Giro at 43 years! If Froome isn't able to get himself fixed or somehow fails to complete his rehab then we can call his career.
Haha, that introduction is absolutely first class. Hats off mate, great production
Great to see the yellow jersey out front & winning stages. I'm sure Eddy Merckx would approve!

That interview was cringe. Can they not ask the guy more intelligent questions than "are you worried about someone 6 minutes behind you?". In other years, a 6 minute gap would probably put you out of top 10
Exactly 🤣 he should be more worried about WADA.. but then again, they all should 😅
It was worth it to get that answer.
I wonder how much it would of been if Roglic didnt crash, with Jonas as a domestique, it would of been interestinf
Well said! What kind of question is that?! How can you answer that and not sound like a jerk?
No doubt, his answer was all-time; catching himself laughing and trying to roll it back was even better...kinda makes me want more of this. Still, my heart is with Primozzzz.
Great coverage Lanterne, in my opinion every rider completing this tour is a winner with some more remarkable than others but no losers here.
It must be the bike?

Vingegaard, the mountain goat from Denmark, the king of the Denmark highest "mountain" (170 meters).

"It's a game for me since I started" .... You're playing a different game mate
A game with the testers 😅
Agreed chess and checkers it feels. Like football with Messi, zidane, pirlo, xavi, iniesta types he's so poised and intelligent. Been racing since he was 9 so not too many years difference maybe at his craft. Roglic is funny always emphasizes "I'm young 31 not to many miles on my tires: ), tadej is older in bike years lol" true despite almost decade difference. Both really nice guys off bike.
Nah he just got rim brakes and most of GC is on CX bikes guised as road racers.
@@durianriders shut up
@@durianriders can you finally shut your mouth if the tour is won on disc brakes?
Pierre Latour was going for the Souvenir Jacques Goddet at the top of the Tourmalet, which is why he was sprinting to get over the top first, as it has quite a lot of prize money attached to it and I think that he got to stand on the podium at the end of the day as well, so it also meant exposure for the team and the sponsors. Not actually a bad idea, considering that he wasn’t going to win the stage and he’s nowhere in the polka dot jersey competition, so he just went over the top in first and then probably didn’t want to take any risks on the descent, so he just went back to the peloton to recover and sat in for as long as possible after going full gas on the Tourmalet.
Thx!
$5,000 prize money
He did zip up for sponsor before summit so you have to be spot on.
Interesting, thanks. I never look into the intermediate prizes.
No wonder. Thanks for the explanation
The first two times, before finally playing it back, I thought the interviewer asked, "Are you worried about being a god?"
Tadej : Why should I be worried?
That Pogi interview sure has changed now
😂😂😂
Round 3 baby
"Why should I be?". YES!!! Finally Tadej sees it's more fun to speak the truth rather than "day by day" or "km by km" like two weeks ago. He needs to keep speaking with this same confidence.
Honestly its not even confidence with a question like that. Its like why should he be because he could crash twice in the tt before enough of that 5:45 lead is eaten up to start worrying.
I think that he was so surprised by the stupidity of the question, that he couldn't think of a humble answer.
He answered it like the hyper-predator that he is, he *knows* his “prey” also, My sense is that he genuinely respects Vingegaard, and realized the reaction was not how what he’d like to express about Jonas… so he nicely back peddled and brought it back to the specifics of re-gaining 6 minutes at this point in the tour.
@@appearance8932 I think he answered like that because it's common sense. It doesn't even have anything to do with him or Vindey. It would be like asking if Uran can still get a podium because carapaz is bad at TTs, it's just a question that isn't possible anymore, unless he crashes very badly, which is like sure anyone can crash out, you could ask that of every rider every day
didn't age well, did it?
Pretty neat snot management from Pogacar in the intro. Chic.
This aint his first rodeo!
Pogacar is just out on a club-run every day.
It wouldn't surprise me if he Sprinted for the "Paris" sign! 🤣🤣🤣
he should help his teamate to win 1 of the remaining stage after this as appreciation hahahah

2:34 Latour got the 5000 euro. That's why he gave it all. The inexplainable event was that Gaudu, after pulling most of the climb, allowed Latour to go first.
I'm really disappointed that Pogačar didn't put any effort into getting the Green Jersey. What a slacker!

Tadej is bad-ass, BUT bear in mind that Vingegaard threw almost two minutes !! waiting for Roglic when he was still his aid earlier in the Tour. So he's spent a lot of time and energy before being let loose. Just saying :-)
Almost two minutes? I thought it was 55 seconds.
yeah yeah pogacar is great and dominant and all. but best of all are those glasses. thats just free speed, they look epic!
Agreed, i really like them
@David Burnside Scicon I think
Damn LR, this is a pro recap. Visuals, information, music...
Splendid!
Pogacar, man, I think we are witnessing the early years of one of the greats. How awesome!
The interviewer asks "are you worried about Vingegaard?" He should have said "Hells to the no! I'm the boss here in TT or the mountains. Ineos sucks!"
lol Froome looks almost like a full natty bruh next to these guys
Maybe we judged Chris Froome and his 6.1 watts per kilo too harshly.
These numbers seem silly now with people pulling 7.5 for 20+minutes
Losing 6 minutes in TT - Pogacar - you’re just teasing the reporters - you’re going to put 6 minutes into your lead aren’t you? You bad boy… 🚴♂️

Yeah he has really performed well this year. Unfortunately, his performance has made it apparent that Porte should hang up the jersey and retire.
Me too ever since movistar I know a lot of guys on tt now get in tough position but he was first I ever saw do such an aero posture. He was already good at movistar although my guess is he worked hard with ineos to really perfect that posture. He does it on long courses like Olympics hes incredible. Strange observation he looks more like Alberto to me every year resemblance to me is so strong: ). Maybe just me but I always think it🙂. He's been really good a really long time and doesn't seem to be slowing a bit.
I’d love to see a 2020 Tour revisit in light of what we know now about Tadej’s prowess. He was an afterthought on an also-ran team last year - quietly surfing wheels up climbs, “animating the race” if anything, never a favorite or a contender… until he won. It would be interesting to see if there’s a way to reverse engineer any race strategy out of that result, given what we are seeing this year.
Sepp wins 15 and keeps his leader in connection with Tadej pulling for 3k -- bonus points and money for the Durango Kid. Tadej is at another level and had this tour sown up before it started!
I think Pogacar's comment responding to the question asking if it was a game to him was because he didn't quite have the same understanding as the interviewer (and us). I got the impression he said it was like a game because *that's simply what all sports ultimately are* - and he understands this, so his outlook on his job is to have fun and do as well as he can. and that's going rather well, so he is very happy about that.
It's a pleasure to win, it makes you forget how hard it was to get there...
Tadej Pogačar dominira na Dirki po Franciji. Tadej dominates. Bravo!
Za koga pa letos navijaš?
It’s a shame we didn’t get another great TJV and UAE battle this year, but I’ll take it for this hilarious interview
Another terrific edit, and summary--thank you! I watch the full stages, but these are always like dessert! I had thought that it would be a long time before we saw another Grand Tour rider of Froome's caliber, so it seems crazy to say already that Pogacar looks like he may be the most complete 3-week rider ever. He seems to have more tools than Froome, Armstrong, and Indurain ... it's probably not fair to go back to Hinault and Merckx as the racing then was so different. But for all his physical gifts, it seems his biggest advantage is his calm determination under enormous pressure. And he is a boy. Long may he reign.
I don’t think Roglic or Bernal would have beaten Pogacar this year, but it would have been nice to see them try-they are the only riders in his league.
Well this comment didnt age as well as thought ;)
i think now he knows why he should be worried about jonas
And he still knows
"Are you worried about Vingegaard"?....😆 Looks increduously and answers "Why should I be worried..."? Smooth 👊

Thanks LR your commentary and humour always appreciated. The bit of zen I like is that at this point Cav will win the GJ and the Lanterne Rouge.
GOATED for playing the opening clip
Vingegaard looks so strong!
And the future told hov strong
It can be a little unfair to read into comments made in an athlete's 2nd/3rd/4th language. Pog kinda seemed to regret saying 'why should I be worried' immediately
True, he didn't mean it in a disrespectful way.
Pogacar riding Rim Brakes up the mountains best part of this Tour lol
So you need a team for flats as they reduce drag for you but how do team mates help you going up hill? Sorry if it's a dumb question, just started watching cycling last year and I haven't found a video explaining the dynamics (rather than rules) of team racing. Is it even still a team sport with this guy, I mean in another video the guy says Pogacar doesn't even need a team. Also, and I'm not implying anything, is Pogacar dominating both climbing and time trials really akin to if the same guy, with the same physique, dominated both 100m and 1.500 m in track and field?
"Looking at his bike computer telling him he's about to blow up" - wahahahahha
Dang that intro was superb. LR and LRCP now an essential viewing routine..
I really wish Roglic was still in the Tour and in good shape. Imagine the fireworks we would have gotten yesterday and today if there was someone who could really challenge Pogacar instead of just being happy to follow his wheel.
(Only downside would be that Vingegaard wouldn't have done that well, but he would still have done some great things)
Right now i think only bernal has a chance to challenge pogacar.
Hopefully they face each other on the next year Tour

Power meters and data should either be outlawed in competition or force the teams to make all their data public. Cycling has become a numbers game which dictates how long and how hard cyclists will pedal. The UCI could easily outlaw HR monitors, power meters and head units so the riders have to ride on feel rather than what the numbers say.....but that will never happen.
