I agree, but not fully. Age doesn't mean much. Chris Horner could do it at 43 years and only really stopped when he couldn't recover fully from a crash. Valverde can even be better, he is only 41 years. BTW keep your eyes on Chris Froome, if he is able to complete his rehabilitation, he will have another 6-7 years in his career and the young guys will be in proper jeopardy.

@@crispusmahea2135 Ha. Froome is "riding out his contract". He's proven his strength of character by hanging in and doing what he can for his team and helping that spectator/rider that came to grief yesterday, but he doesn't have another 6-7 years left in his career. He's now 2 years into his rehabilitation. How many more years does he need to get back to where he will be "putting the young guys in proper jeopardy"? 2 more? 3 more? And he'll get stronger as he gets older, all the while rehabbing a severe career-altering injury? That's what you're saying, right?

Did you know that some people were afraid that he'd leave on his hands and knees? Instead the guy was pulling turns in front of the peleton today! Listen if he completes his rehabilitation successfully, the he has more than 7 years on his career and yes he can get stronger with age, it's all down to the nutrition, medical & training regime. I like to use the example of Chris Horner who won the Giro at 43 years! If Froome isn't able to get himself fixed or somehow fails to complete his rehab then we can call his career.

Pierre Latour was going for the Souvenir Jacques Goddet at the top of the Tourmalet, which is why he was sprinting to get over the top first, as it has quite a lot of prize money attached to it and I think that he got to stand on the podium at the end of the day as well, so it also meant exposure for the team and the sponsors. Not actually a bad idea, considering that he wasn’t going to win the stage and he’s nowhere in the polka dot jersey competition, so he just went over the top in first and then probably didn’t want to take any risks on the descent, so he just went back to the peloton to recover and sat in for as long as possible after going full gas on the Tourmalet.

I’d love to see a 2020 Tour revisit in light of what we know now about Tadej’s prowess. He was an afterthought on an also-ran team last year - quietly surfing wheels up climbs, “animating the race” if anything, never a favorite or a contender… until he won. It would be interesting to see if there’s a way to reverse engineer any race strategy out of that result, given what we are seeing this year.

I think Pogacar's comment responding to the question asking if it was a game to him was because he didn't quite have the same understanding as the interviewer (and us). I got the impression he said it was like a game because *that's simply what all sports ultimately are* - and he understands this, so his outlook on his job is to have fun and do as well as he can. and that's going rather well, so he is very happy about that.

I had thought that it would be a long time before we saw another Grand Tour rider of Froome's caliber, so it seems crazy to say already that Pogacar looks like he may be the most complete 3-week rider ever. He seems to have more tools than Froome, Armstrong, and Indurain ... it's probably not fair to go back to Hinault and Merckx as the racing then was so different. But for all his physical gifts, it seems his biggest advantage is his calm determination under enormous pressure. And he is a boy. Long may he reign.

So you need a team for flats as they reduce drag for you but how do team mates help you going up hill? Sorry if it's a dumb question, just started watching cycling last year and I haven't found a video explaining the dynamics (rather than rules) of team racing. Is it even still a team sport with this guy, I mean in another video the guy says Pogacar doesn't even need a team. Also, and I'm not implying anything, is Pogacar dominating both climbing and time trials really akin to if the same guy, with the same physique, dominated both 100m and 1.500 m in track and field?

Power meters and data should either be outlawed in competition or force the teams to make all their data public. Cycling has become a numbers game which dictates how long and how hard cyclists will pedal. The UCI could easily outlaw HR monitors, power meters and head units so the riders have to ride on feel rather than what the numbers say.....but that will never happen.
