I think what they want is not to be able to fix their RVs, they want you to have to bring it back to them to fix so they can charge you a year's paycheck. Just my humble opinion. Safe Travels.
I used to work in a Fleetwood manufacturing plant & all I can say is...You're not wrong! Although it wasn't a repair shop to fix problems, I saw how they were made from start (bare frame) to finish (out to the holding area for shipping) & they were *LITERALLY* put together with wood glue, staples & self-tapping or sheet metal screws. They are *NOT* made to last for any length of time!
I would love to have automatic steps....We have to open and close ours manually and they get stuck. Since you don't need your $11 Walmart step stool anymore maybe I'll use it LOL! Glad you got them fixed!
And my friend they'd never could have anticipated you coming all you had to do was cut the old lags off and put in brand new carriage bolts. Now you have a structural weakness that you're going to have to deal with.
@@paintingsbyjimhall Of course, you are correct. But I said it was not designed for that purpose. It was designed for the parts THEY chose for price and ease of installation on the production line.
Coachman doesn’t suck, RV MANUFACTURING SUCKS, they need to slow down about 10% and do things correctly. Get rid of the staple guns and get some screw guns. Among other things.
Hold on a minute....... Did I see another cat on the other side of the litter box?! Or are my cat loving eyes playing tricks on me?!?! 😻 😹 In fact.... I'm almost certain that was the cat you had in the April Fools video! BTW.... Love the Mickey clock radio! What a find!! It does look like it's missing a clear plastic cover over the clock though. Probably got yellow & brittle over the years. Because I don't believe those clock hands are supposed to be exposed. Still an amazing find though! 👍😁
Glad you and your friends got your steps repaired. Eric you amaze me how you figure all that stuff out once you become determined. ☺ Way to go. Always a good day when things work out well!
get a drill, drill out the timber on top of the bolt heads, remove the bolts with a screw gun and extension bit. Had this problem before on all sorts of projects and always works
I am absolutely convinced not to get into a complicated rv. what with all the necessary repairs, and my total lack of skills to fix them. A sprinter type van might be the most I could take on. You amaze me Eric.
ERIC A few years ago you bought an old basic motor home that already had one foot in the grave, And yes all the bells and whistles on a basic unit have a preplanned life span, Now if you want to be serious find a PREVOST base unit ( that is one of the manufactures of highway coaches that have a million and a half plus mile expected live span). Then you go basic unit NO SLIDE OUTS quality on board diesel gen set, 1200 or 2400 x 24.5 highway tires again will run well over 200,000 miles before replacing, It will just be a basic unit quality built to run the highways and byways . Just a thought
those cardboard cutout characters were decorations for kid's walls in their bedrooms. that's why there is a hold on the back. that one may have been for a kid's bathroom. glad you got your steps fixed.
It's really nice to see you in such high spirits, great fid on the Mickey clock. Thanks for sharing and as always stay safe, safe travels, and God bless love ya Nancy
To replace the step on my old R-Vision trailer I had to take out the doorframe to get access to the bolt heads. It looks like your rig is built the same way.
Freaking RV manufacturers. Slap it together and to hell with the customer. Almost all are guilty of this. If it lasted forever they couldn’t sell any new ones. Bastards.
YAY Eric !!!! Congrats on the steps and Mickey gold !! Might I make a suggestion? When you are parked at a location, perhaps bracing the steps from the ground up to the bottom of the step to give it support might help them last longer? I am so happy for you !! that is great to have a chore completed and working so well !!
It's nice that you're in a big enough town to find some parts to help cobble together the RV steps. Imagine if you were in some town in the middle of nowhere..
Aw, Jax looks like he's getting so thin. As far as the steps are concerned; after this I would never trust them to be there. In other words, always look first before you step out.
I know you’re kidding about the house boat idea, but imagine the new content going from bay to bay up the coastline . Eric the sea captain doesn’t have quite the same ring to it 😂
You and many others are the reason why I didn't buy a RV. Too many problems. I have a high top van. I love it. No I don't have the room you do. But I don't have the problems you do. I'm really sorry you have to go through this. I live in Northern Indiana. I know how these RVs are builded. It's a joke. Bless you and I sure hope things get better for you
Powered stairs, two motors for each slide out, fresh water pump, waste tank monitors, powered levelers, and on and on. These are complex machines with so many moving parts and wired devices. You have done a 180 degree turn in your travels. I saw you looking at that Bertha-like van the other day. Wistful for a simpler life with more time for travel and exploration instead of repairing that ranch home on wheels?
My steps on a Thor Windsport 33x have stopped working and are the same Lippert step. The steps are stuck out and a purple wire is hanging down under the step, and all the fuses are still good. It's been raining here and that's as far as I've gotten. Has anyone got any answers to this problem. The purple wire has a connector on the end, but I can't find where it could connect. The Lippert website says the purple wire is for the step light, but the light switch works. They say unhook steps and tie them up and take to a shop. That usually means a month in the shop. Has anyone run into this problem? If so please help. Thank you!
That is a pontoon boat , not , a house boat . Lag bolts are for wood , not metal . Glad ya got your stairs set back up Man ! Time to travel North !!👍👍 P.S. cool radio !!
I struggle with ALOT of items with my Coachman as well. I feel your pain. Everything I touch seems to need further drilling or cutting.. it's a nightmare
IDK about your area but out west of you west of Springfield is Colan RV Sales. They are a salvage/junk yard for RVS. Ya outta check out them next time you need to replace a large part!
They are making things harder to repair these days.... cellphones, laptops, cars, etc... See Louis Rossman videos - who is an advocate to the "Right to Repair" movement....
Careful Eric. All those Mickey's might attract another cat. Glad you got the step retrofitted. I don't remember good times fixing my parent's rv..or boat. Just sayin.
hey eric, they build them so fast. coachman is know to build it as fast as they can. with parts that are crap.back in the 80s, they build super nice rvs & campers. maybe when it comes times for tires or something, just trade it in for a better class a. been more of a pain for you, vs haveing fun with it. jaxs is saying time for a new one dad.

It is not just Coachman I assure you, there is not an RV made with true craftsmanship in the last 20 years. Just glue them together and get them up the door.
That's why I'm going to go for either a trailer or a slide in truck camper someday. Specifically interested in a fiberglass trailer like a Casita or Scamp.
The quality control on all these recreational vehicles are horrible. I've had two of them. And I'll never own another one again. And they are right about putting them together they don't even think about what they're doing just slap them together. if you have to work on them you have to cut things out to get to nuts and bolts nothing is straight it's a mess and you better be mechanically inclined if you buy one of them things. I'm glad I don't own them anymore. I just go to the motel and in the morning I get up leave the key in the door and get in my car and go where I got to go. Life is good.
After watching you and Kevin, i don't think class A's are worth it. Like Kevin said when he bought his new big foot RV he misses a drivers side door so you dont have to worry about the step. Also the windshield is cheaper to replace in a class C or B.
There are no RVs designed and built for future maintenance and repair. They are built as fast as possible with the fewest steps possible.
"fewest steps" haha..nice unintended pun
Wait you're surprised that a sticks and staples RV isn't made to be repaired. That's so cute. :)
One small step for Eric .... one giant leap for Jax.

I had that radio when I was kid... I got in trouble for taking it apart and not being able to get it back together lol
Remember, that RV was designed for the Lippert steps. They assume you will buy an exact replacemnt if needed.
I am sure by now that maintaining an rv often means mods and imagination.
@@paintingsbyjimhall Of course, you are correct. But I said it was not designed for that purpose. It was designed for the parts THEY chose for price and ease of installation on the production line.
I think they are put together for road vibrations and sometimes they hold together better with hidden bolts versus more costs.
