Similar to GWS and WoC. A noisy minority on social media complain endlessly, but the products keep selling out. So the companies just spend their limited time and resources creating and releasing new products and minimise engaging with the social media whiners.
Good video. 100% agree that Lee needs a raise. Or at least, like, an assistant. I appreciate the kind words. You’re probably the most balanced of anyone covering this, so keep up the good work! (I will continue to slander Renegade every chance I get lol)
@@tabletopbro Sorry that comment was in agreement XD Great video and excited for renegades' heroscape I need to make a trip up to the farm and see if all my old heroscape stuff is still boxed up in those sealed totes i put them in years ago.
This is coming from someone who hasn't played HS and doesn't have a horse in this race, but I feel like this is just a case of two groups converging to the same design because they are trying to solve the same problem.
RUclips tends to auto-delete comments that link to or suggest people go to other sites. Sometimes I'm talking with somebody on here and they want a source, so I just tell them it'll get deleted in seconds and give them some keywords to look for on their own to find it. That may be what happened to his chat comments.
I’m guessing that’s why the first one got deleted. And then he was kind of being an ass for the following two comments (sorry Ryan) so I get why they’d delete them - especially given their heavy censorship stance
@tabletopbro Yeah, I think the video uploader gets special privilege to pin links in the comments. It's probably just to stop spam and keep people from posting to problematic sites, moderation on RUclips is stretched pretty thin considering how much content is on here. It just happens to catch everyone else in the crossfire.
Why I agree that the community may have kept their own gaming groups going and that's great. I am also confident that most of the community members are not game designers or corporate business people that would be able to develop ideas or make decisions that would keep the game in print. There are so many behind the scenes costs, and contracts and other things that need to happen to produces and move this game forward that we need to let the company do it. Because if the community was able to design, build, balance, box and ship like a company can it would have been alive again a long time ago.
Live react: 0:33 it's so odd to me that a company would lift work from the community without credit. I feel like you get community buy in that way (maybe worried about copyright? idk) 1:20 Community managers that are good are so rare, I feel the loss of a really good one from the total war community to this day 2:30 the plot thickens 5:10 i gotta be honest, it seems like it might be really tough to deal with an entrenched community if you're a game designer, but i guess that's what you signed up for by reanimating the corpses of these old properties
Yep. I was gonna be new to HeroScape. I backed the old Haslab project (then it failed) and i pre-ordered when it resurrected at Renegade. Almost $300 worth or preorder product. Then i saw the wave 1 product costs, i realized Renegade let me down again (as with transformers rpg limited stuff) and i cancelled my pre-order. I was kinda bummed cause i thought the game was gonna be hype! After this video - it’s lookin like it’s just gonna be a money sink. 😢 Damn. I really wanted to get in this game too, but for me - i think bailing now was the right choice. I got other great games (HeroQuest, Fighting Fantasy, solo RPGs) to stick too. I will still watch longingly and maybe get into the hobby on the cheap later on.
Good video. I tend to side with renegade with most topics because although the community certainly deserves some credit here, renegade owns the rights and can do with it what they want. And the constant complaining about greedy capitalism is so freakin annoying.... of course renegade wants to make money. Duh! So does everyone else at the end of the day. Also Coulda sworn i saw a comment a ways back where lee had said they gave credit to a cpuple folks but i cant remember.... may be wrong. Also i feel there are quite a few casual gamers out there too (like me, im more of a filthy casual!) and the vocal minority in discord tends to be overwhelmingly competitive and frankly can get annoying at times with all the nit picking. Tldr, both renegade nor heroscapers war council speak for all heroscapers. Not by a long shot i dont care how many custom figures they have created over the years.
I don't think Renegade is really doing anything wrong by making their own tournament stuff, and most of it does just seem like what is necessary for them to successfully run tournaments... I just doubt most of the existing community will use it. Especially since they won't be able to access the VC portion of the army builder with it, and I highly doubt Renegade will start having online events. (which, by the way, if anyone wants to participate in tournaments and doesn't have a local scene, online tournaments are already currently happening!) I think you are also combining two groups when you discuss the people that whined about unpainted and the people that think the new stuff costs two much... Many of us knew unpainted would be crazy expensive.
Lack of VC units makes sense from an official perspective but yeah definitely doesn’t help sell it to the pre-existing community. I’m curious if the extra features they’re implementing will slow down the functionality of the website. And maaaaaybeeee? I dunno man the online community always be complaining about something
People are just addicted to drama and it drives me nuts. It comes down to this: If you like Heroscape, support it and dont tear it down. If you dont like it, go away and leave people alone I for example don't want you to actively destroy a game i've waited so long to return
lol that’s kinda the problem if most people don’t like it they will leave.then nobody buys their product causing the game to die again. That shouldn’t be the mentality. it’s okay to give criticism it’s what you do with it that matters.
The infrastructure is already there why not use it!?!? Probably cause the people that own it are going to want something for it. I don't forsee folks turning over stuff they have worked so long on without wanting something. So its probably easier to just make new stuff that you own and hope the community comes to your infrastructure and likes it as much or more. We shall see where it goes. Thanks for doing the doing and making the making for our eyeballs!

I hate being a downer but these new heroscape sets look lame 😒 the old stuff was way more appealing with Roman’s Vikings gladiators. some of these designs just look boring. I tried to be excited. I’ve played herscape since I was 15 I’m 34 now me an friends have enjoyed this game for years. They still seem somewhat excited but I think it’s mostly just because we haven’t played heroscape together for over 10 years. The cards kinda bug me to something just doesn’t sit right with me but idk I kinda hope they succeed but if they don’t we still got the old stuff to fall back on.
I would be EXTREMELY cautious about interacting with the community. If I were them, I would limit my interaction to promoting community sites “to learn more about the awesome community that kept this game alive” but it really comes across as a minefield I’d stay the heck out of. It’s a no-win situation for them.
How come? I’m (obviously) of the opinion they should be frequently interacting with the community as the community is what’s kept the game alive and goodwill is important. I’d love to know why you’re team limit that and why you think it’s a no-win situation
The community does not own Heroscape. It is not their property. The company will seek to make as much money as possible from the game, which leads to making an excellent game experience for everyone.
@@InventiveHarvest they’re hemorrhaging their player base with WAY too many releases a year, design choices that encourage you to buy more cards, and thousand dollar cards you can’t use in competitive play.
