If the CIA hadn't assassinated the Democratically elected President (Salvator Allende) in his country 1973 and installed the Terrorist General Pinochet -his family wouldn't have had to flee Chile and immigrate here (and he wouldn't be a big actor hosting Saturday Night Live! )

Pinochet was a brutal leader in Chile. He ordered the torture of thousands and thousands of citizens for not having the same views that he demanded the people have. And the death toll/people missing is well over 3,000 souls. Those were people that Pinochet's government arrested and brutally tortured and murdered for Pinochet's political gain. When he said his parents took him and his sister out of the country "fleeing Pinochet" - he was acknowledging that his parents risked their very lives to ensure he and his sister had a better life. I can see why he got choked up - the trail of dead bodies pinochet left was staggering. Sting wrote a song about pinochet's deadly rule. The song is called: "They Dance Alone" - gut wrenching.

Us children of immigrant parents can’t help but get super emotional when we reflect on the sacrifices our parents have had to make and the hardships they endured, for a chance at a better future for us. I realize this more as I get older and reach the ages that my parents were when they immigrated and left their family, friends, and had to uprooted their entire lives.

I agree that their immigration story is admirable. Pedro seems like he turned out well given all of the hardship and turmoil. Buuuut I feel like people don’t know how gross his father is. He was a fertility doc who swapped fertilized eggs and gave them to all different women on purpose. He then fled the country until 2022. Not the kind of person to idolize.

Agreed! It was also the polar opposite in quality to last week. Last week with Micheal B Jordan was probably one of the worse SNL shows I've seen in awhile. All the live skits were pretty bad. It felt like Jordan refused most of the ideas that the writers pitched to him. So we ended up with skits about how Jordan was hot or cool, or taking the opposite of that and thinking we'd find it funny.

Beautiful indeed, but Pedro is too masculine to wear this type of tops, doesn't fit his style at all. It's more for Harry Styles and Timothe Chalamét types.

I really like this new thing they're doing where at the end of the host's monologue they get sentimental about a special personal detail in their lives or from they're past. I hope they keep doing it.

@@tru3sk1ll I'm a big scifi fan. Idk. Game of Thrones sounds like too much r@p3, ¡nc 3st and torture for the fact I already am not generally a fan of Medeival times. Might just read the cliff notes and watch the episodes with him in it lol. I'm loooving him in The Last of Us but until then he hadn't been on my radar. Also binge-watching Narcos now!!

I tried several episodes of GOT and even started the first book and just couldn't stomach the vile and appalling gratuitous violance George R R Martin wrote (and yes, I get that it's WAR).
But this man is just so charismatic, I'd watch him in just about anything!
I became a fan since The Mandalorian first released. He's so good at what he does, and it's fantastic to see a Chilean rise to such heights after such a struggle his parents went through to give their son a better life. He freaking RULES in "The Last of Us". I cannot wait to see what else he does!
