YOU ROCK! Your guide rescued my bricked N5010. It's so cool folks like you with bigger brains than mine are kind enough to take the time to share what they know- please accept my sincere thanks! For anyone still stuck in Corrupt Bios Hell, here's what happened to my N5010:
I upgraded the CPU from a Pentium to a Core i3 and wanted to update the Bios from A10 to the latest A15; I launched the Bios update from Windows and in the middle of the update the laptop began to reboot; I heard crackling noises come from the speakers then the screen went black and the power light stayed on; laptop was otherwise completely dead.
I followed this guide and within minutes my laptop was fixed- Unplug AC adapter & remove battery; Plug in Fat32 formatted USB stick with the 2 files on it (the USB stick was obviously prepared on a working computer); Plug in the AC adapter while keeping the "End" key held down; Bios Update screen appeared, selected to update now, waited until it finished then rebooted. ALL FIXED.

This video LITERALLY just saved my bacon. I have a Vostro 3500 that just got bricked after I attempted to update the Bios. After hours of research I stumbled upon your video and it works again. The only thing I had to do was change the HDR file name to winery50. I got that tip from the dell forum and it worked like a charm. I need to write down these instructions. Thanks again.

A 6-year late comment, I know... but today, after trying to update the BIOS from an old N5010 the battery died... and I thought I´ve bricked my notebook. But fortunately I found this video after some googling and it worked like a charm! I really appreciate your help, sir! Kudos from Brazil!

i updated this bios on dell latitude 3310 and then after that when i plug my charger it says 100 percent and the moment I unplug it shows battery low or like 95 percent
@@rhegatamosa3409 I am not sure what could possibly be wrong, but I would firstly power off the laptop (from outlet), remove the battery and press the power button for like 10s. Then reinsert the battery, plug it again and check if the problem persists. If so I would search on the Dell site because there is a lot of info there for your specific model. Maybe you can find instructions on how to downgrade your firmware.

I was updating BIOS on Dell N5010 from version A12 to A15 and it crashed. It was constant beeping and black screen. I followed the instruction was given in this video and my laptop came back to life. Thank You Million times. I am your lifetime fan now.
I must not be able to figure out what to type in cmd screen. a perfectly operating laptop, before the update. now dead windows 10 pro will not let me run it. i really don't understand what to type in cmd. none of the downloads i have tried have n5010a.hdr file i only have one file in the temp folder, where would i get the other ones?
@@heres2ya Check if your laptop have recovery option or not. mine had it that's why i got lucky but some older laptops didn't have that option. if you have Dell N5010 then you should have recovery option spfollow the steps mentioned in video and you will be able to fix the laptop. If it doesn't work then I would suggest try replacing the BIOS chip (that's what i was going to do if this video was not helpful). My DELL N5010 is an experiment laptop for me but if your laptop is your main laptop the think million times before following my advise regarding replacing BIOS chip because it is not tested. Good Luck...Hopefully video instructions fixes your problem...
@@heres2ya This video worked for me but I had to change the name of the HDR file first. Im not sure why but when searching the Dell community forum I was told to. As soon I did this it worked.

@@simplymikell when u download the bios file from your drivers website, then do the following :
1-open the C partition
2- there make a new folder call it "temp" ,
3-move the bios file there in "temp" folder.
4- in windows search, search for "cmd "
5- right-click on "command prompt", and choose run as administrator
6-in command prompt, type the following:
c:\temp\ /writehdfile
note: in the above command, replace with the file name that u downloaded, and don't forget to put ".exe" at the end of the name.
7-then continue from the video.

was killing myself trying to do this simple fix only to realize it wouldn't work because the client's keyboard was DOA and i was using a USB keyboard. can confirm the other USB ports do not function aside from the left one, so no wonder it wasn't working. brand new keyboard installed, it worked first try. thank you!

What Phoenix Tool did you use from word press i cant get my files to read on my dell vostro 3300.
Recently had an issue updating BIOS for a friends Dell Insprion M5030... Warranty expired and Dell wouldn't help me... just said I would have to send it in and they would look at it with a service charge and I'm sure they would've tacked on a bunch of other charges for parts that weren't actually broken too... This worked first try... you my friend are smarter than the entire Dell troubleshooting team... Cheers and thanks :)

Thanks, for me it worked but after removing the CMOS battery. Try that as well. And I put the pendrive in the left USB for your laptop it can differ so pick a USB stick with an active LED so you know if your USB port is working in this situation or not! Again thanks, it was really helpful!

hi my laptop dell N5010 (Intel core i3 model 4GB RAM Model) as i have updating my BIOS in windows 10 pro it suddenly black out my screen and nothing is working. When i restarted my laptop then it not showing DELL logo only black screen and continues beep sound is coming. When i search for the beep sound all result are saying that it's a hardware/motherboard issue as skeptical i thought how this can be possible just doing BIOS update how hardware issues cause (it will arise if would flash other models bios as power constraint will be different but in my case i have flash same N5010 model bios so there should not be any power constraint ) Then i got this video and it work for me Thanks Alisha Artificial Intelligence Program thanks from INDIA . Please guys if thought its work for your laptop please provide detail comment so that anybody with same laptop model will find it easy. Thanks once again for this video it helps lot.
1:- Format USB with FAT32
2:- Rename and Copy that two file as shown in video.
3:- Plug the USB in e-SATA port (the only port on which its work for me(as my laptop has 4 usb port out of three are not get recognize only e-SATA port reconized this usb)
this e-SATA port is residing on my laptop right hand side beside the LAN port.
4:- Remove battery and first press END key then plug the power cord and switch on the power .
5:- with in 5 sec it will show the DELL logo then release the END key. (This processes does not take long time as no one mention how much time it takes to show the screen. If all the people who really think this works them please share the time which required to see the dell logo.
6:- Then select flash bios it will take hardly 30 sec to complete bios flash process the press any to restart the laptop.

For my vostro 3500
1- format fat32 pendrive 1gb
2- copy A3500_A10 or A3500A12 to prendrive
3- ran A3500_A10.exe or A3500A12.exe /writehdrfile
4- ran A3500_A10.exe or A3500A12.exe /writeromfile
5- renamed run A3500_A10.hdr or A3500A12.hdr to winery50.hdr
6- Removed the battery and AC power from the dead computer
6. Inserted the flash drive into the dead computer's USB port
7. Holded down the End key and then connected the AC power
8. USB flash led and coller turned on

I have a Latitude E6400. i was very happy with him. After i install Win10 pro with all updates the machine runs well. a few days ago i updatet my bios to A27 in windows. I got a error that it could not flash. After i shut down my notebook it doesn´t start up. the LED and the fan shortly works and then nothing else.
I make step by step by looking this video, but it will be always the same. Didn´t it work with my Latitude E6400?
I did exactly the same on my E6500, after installing Win10 I wanted to upgrade bios to A29, an error appeared and a request to restart. The laptop does not start... :( Were you able to solve this problem?
Hello, My dell N5010 shutdown in bios update process, i remember that the last part of bios was delete and the update was writing and Windows Say low Battery and shutdown, so, now just turn on and have blank screen (no backlight turn on) and sounds BEEPS. Yours laptops reacts like my laptops?

Does this method work with a optiplex 5070 sff? I got the 2x orange and 5x white led blink and it means corrupted bios and now it won’t do anything than just blinking this code.. may it work or not?

Perhaps buy new chip and programmer from aliexpress. Program a new chip.

Download the bios firmware and Create the hdr and rom file as shown in the video, rename as shown
Then use a usb 1gb or 2gb 2.0, format to FAT32, copy paste these 2 files
Remove Battery and AC
Plug the USB Stick
Hold "End" and plug AC until BIOS flash screen appears (DELL)
Release "End" and f2 or del to enter BIOS Setup as per your laptop, select flash bios and you are good

when using a the comands with CMD run as adminstrator, in the TEMP folder the hdr and sys fuiles are not being created? why is that?

Doesn't work like this on a Dell Latitude E5570. It uses CTRL-ESC combination and the downloaded file can only be run on a working computer, not in recovery mode...

I have a Dell Latitude PP01L that my dad gave me because its bios is corrupt. This tutorial looks very easy. As soon as I get the charger for my pc, I will try this. It is made for Windows 98, and my dad was just gonna trash the pc, but I challenge myself to getting it working again. If I get it to work, I am going to use it for portable playing old games such as Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, and Mechwarrior 2 31st Century Combat.

I have a Dell inspiron 5520 laptop that has been upgraded to Windows 10 .. the BIOS version preinstalled before the OS upgrade was A7 now it shows A10. However , recently I changed the CMOS battery and the BIOS set up seems corrupted. F2 button stroke not taking me to the BIOS set up as it did before. It takes ages now. Also the battery and the RAM is not getting recognized. Any fix ?

The reason why I'd like to reset the bios is I replaced the ssd in my Dell latitude 5580 and upon upgrading it from windows 7 to windows 10pro the backlit keyboard stopped working, I went into the bios to see if it was enabled and the option isn't even there, everything works fine but the keyboard backlit feature? Any suggestions? I'm at my wits end.

I have black screen issue (not even the Dell logo appears on boot & the screen is completely black but fan , all leds & keyboard backlight is working). After done all troubleshooting steps, i am sure that it's Bios get corrupted. I want to re-flash the BIOS but can't access the BIOS due to blank screen issue.
Can you please help me for my Dell model. Through cmd, after extracting the .hdr & .rom files from downloaded bios file (version A12 June 2020), what rename should I do to these extracted files for my particular Dell model (XPS 15 L502x)?
[Actually, I read in some other articals that we have to rename these extracted .rom & .hdr files.
For eg. in case of Dell Vostro 3700, we have to rename these files to winery70 .hdr & winrey70 .rom (but it's so different from it's actual model number).
So what about other Dell models, how can we find what is correct rename ? ]

Thing is I can’t download it it’s stuck in startup saying bios auto recovery failed
I tried a remote bios update from A08 to A15 over TeamViewer (stupid I know), and thinking the N5010 would be fine, but it bricked. The power button does nothing. No LEDs, dead. I tried this method using an 8GB FAT32 flash drive. Still nothing. Suggestions?

I kept getting progress "not started". After many hours I can tell you all that I was holding END for too long. As soon as theDell logo appears release the key. too long and it never starts. Worked great on my M5010 on old and new bios' plus works on all 3 usb ports. (Some mystic had suggested to use the port next to the power socket but I proved that was rubbish).

Thank you very much, during bios update from windows 10 a low battery message appeared (it was at 100%) and, halfway through the update, it turned off.
Thanks for your guidance. Inspiron 15 n5010 resurrected, the usb stick has been connected in the rear left USB port. In the other USB the procedure does not work.

I updated bios on my Dell N5110. Now my laptop takes more than 3 minutes to boot. Before it used to boot in less than 50 seconds. Any solution?
Why the renaming and capital letters of the files? No dos commands are case sensitive, although there are switches for commands that are. Might be nice to let the newbies know they don't have to rename and don't have to capitalize because if they're reading all of this and are gonna go for it, might as well keep it as simple as possible for them
