CAN I BEAT A POKÉMON FIRERED HARDCORE NUZLOCKE WITH ONLY FLYING TYPES!? (Pokémon Challenge)

- It's time for another Pokemon challenge! FireRed with only Flying types seemed like a really fun and challenging idea, as encounters are quite limited in some areas! FireRed is a fun game and a great remake, so let's do this!
We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon FireRed Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Flying types?

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of trading/importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

I feel like using charmander/dratini would’ve been fine so long as they’re not used until they can become a flying type. So once that level cap is on you grind till they’re good
Also he could buy dratini so if he ruled it out in the safari zone he could still get one.
It would have been less intresting though, won't you agree? :)
Butterfree is a flying type could've saved him a pidgey at brocks gym lol
0:39
Strenght and surf: we still have other uses
u should be able to use charizard and all since grinding them in the grass doesnt count as progressing....
You would still have to box the charmander until you got through Erika's Gym, so you would only technically be able to use it from the 5th gym and onward due to the level cap restrictions, and then either switch train or exp share train it at that point.
@@rpglover5955 yeah but that's better than completely boxing it forever
@@rpglover5955 Since you can't use non-flying pokemon, the only way is through EXP Share since then it doesn't come out of its ball, but yeah I was extremely confused by them not using Charizard
I would have deposited Charmander in the day care and used rare candies to evolve it.
@@SilvarusLupus Isn't the day care disallowed in hardcore nuzlockes?
Keen eye ignores accuracy drips but doesn't ignore evasion boosts so double teaming works against fearow
Late, but as several others said from gen 6 onwards Keen Eye also bypasses enemy evasion boosts.
Just a small thing: Wing Attack is lower Power vs neutral targets than Return, despite the STAB bonus, so Return should have been the play vs Arcanine in final battle. But GGs.
Loved that nuzlocke! Keep the monotype nuzlockes coming, they make the base games 10x more interesting and tactical.
Also catching those type enhancing items like hard stone and sharp beak must've been a long ting! Big up yourself for the time & effort you put into the strategy & editing of these videos 💚

Hey thanks so much my friend! Definitely hope to deliver a chill and fun time for the viewers so very happy to hear that :D
15:06 keen eye doesn't prevent opponent evasion from increasing
From gen 6 onwards it also does that; Silph was just too far ahead by a couple parallel universes.
Being there on twitch made me realize that he edits in the rules afterwards to hide twitch chat and his facecam.
Best part of this run is that you took out a giant rock snake with two small birds.
Also, how ironic is it that you lost a Gyarados to a Hyper Beam recharge I the league both times you Nuzlocked this game.

Aerodactyl is such a beast. Easily one of the best early gen Pokémon.

Only hesitant cause you inspired me to do literally this run last week.
how did it go?
This was such a great video! I love watching hardcore nuzlockes but they are usually never as long as I want them to be so I appreciated the fact that this video was nearly 42 minutes long :)
gotta say, i watch a lot of pokemon content creators and you're definitely one of the funniest. your content makes me chuckle every time. thanks (:
Why didn’t you just put a Charmander or Dratini in the Daycare, grind it out to their respective levels and feed them a couple rare candies to evolve into full flying types? nothing illegal there
He said the daycare was against the rules at one point
the pokemon dont evolve in the daycare. they have to get a level up by Experience in the Team, which is only possible my Exp. Share or Switch trainin. but he wasn't allowed to use non-flyings in battle, so that's not possible
@@Mimigma-ok2vf rare candy? He said it in the comment my guy
i think he changed it so he could use the exp. share to grind their levelsand evolve non usable pokemon to become usable
@@braxtonalik4842 he would need in this game 50 pokedex entries
Flying types are kinda underrated and Farfetch'd is one of the most underrated period. I am very happy to see it worked out for you. My own Ch'Ding swept his way through Lance with some stupid crit luck that I was not expecting but Stick + Slash/Aerial Ace while Swords Dance to hell is all sorts of insane.
Really good run Silph and it came at the perfect time since I was very bored 😃 keep up the great work bro you’ll hit 100K in no time
Hey man, been binging these nuzlockes lately. Love your energy and knowledge about the games. Keep up the good work. Didn’t come across your channel until these so I can’t wait to see these continue
I love how you talked about how good Keen Eye was for the battle against Koga's Muk, as you use a move that can't miss (aerial ace).
As someone who put thousands of hours into fire red as a kid, I had NO idea Golbat would fake an evolution every level after gaining max friendship! The things you learn as an adult
You have to beat the game, then go to the islands and shit, and he’ll evolve. You obviously didn’t put that many hours in 😂
@Dustin D I'm aware of how the evolution can be completed goofball, I wasn't aware it would show a message saying the Pokémon stopped evolving goofball
Bro keep up the good work, i love watching these videos, they are perfect to just unwind to with some nosolgia
Massive respect for sticking true to your rules, even when the going gets tough 👍🏽 big fan of your channel
Always great to see you upload man
I've grown to really love these videos
Super glad to see another Gen 3 challenge video! Good job!
1:00 actually you could’ve still used them without the Exp share. You would just have to put them into the daycare till they reach their evolution level and then use a rare candy. Is the daycare against the rules or did you just not think of that
He said he isn’t allow to use the daycare
Awesome! Automatic add to watch later.
As much as I love these nuzlockes, and I definitely get that The Algorithm favors theses right now (gotta pay the bills), I definitely miss the True Power stuff (not just the tournaments, but the gym/e4 member vids too) and video essays about nintendo/pokemon. Always good content though!
Agreed
True. Later true power series videos got less than 50k views and the series in general was lagging on terms of views so i totally get why silph stick with nuzlockes
Aerodactyl is one of my favorite mons, since I saw the "Dragon Master/Champion" Lance use it in Soulsilver. Its a shame it takes so long to get it.
You can get it after the fourth badge. Just skip erika, defeat koga, get surf and then backtrack to Pewter city to get the fossil and then surf south from Pallet town to cinnabar island
@@abcdef-zo7cr In the Johto games you can't get Aerodactyl till the postgame in Kanto is what I think he meant.
I agree. Yeah it takes a long time to get an Aerodactyl in Johto but in Kanto its not that long.
Also he never got rock slide in rock tunnel move tutor
Good job you liked the name Ch'ding, pretty sure the name rater won't change the nickname of traded mons
Keen eye doesn't negate evasion in gen 3. That was introduced in gen 4. So your Fearow was very prone to missing because of that.
Great Video Silph, not going to lie I was praying for a return of "Goldeneye" for your 1st Pigey encounter, would have been so awesome to do this run with a shiny. One of my favorite champion battles I've seen you do. Also loving your streams on twitch and really enjoying the normal mono type run. Keep up the awesome work.
Ayy thanks so much Brendan! Haha I find myself continuing to hope that we'll be able to find a *viable* shiny encounter in one of these runs; maybe it will happen one day! Really appreciate the support my friend, means the world that you support my content the way you do :D
hell yeah
Great run yet again!!! Love this series. ❤
Great run, excellent team !! Never seen any one use Farfetch'd as well as you have here.
Did I miss the rule where you couldn't teach anyone fly?
Fly is only 70 dmg, 95 acc and takes two turns. Not ideal for a nuzlocke
You know... keen eyes' flavour text says "prevents accuracy loss" and therefore has no significance when it comes to evasiveness of the opponent
It does in later gens so thats why
i loved the heisenberg joke bro, im rewatching breaking bad loved to see that joke in your video totally unexpected. love ur vids homie
Amazing; big fan of the show! Thanks for the support 😄
Keen Eye didn't ignore opponent's double teams until generation 6, which explains the Lt. Surge fight. It only prevented the Keen Eye pokemon's accuracy stat from being lowered, and did nothing to the other pokemon's evasion stat
Wait why didn't you swap Golbat for Dragonite
Dratini/dragonair aren't flying types

@@shoaib366 Have you tried with the randomizer? I genuinly don't know what happens if your starter isn't in the regional dex but I suspect it would work just fine.
I just imagine Mikey shouting “Team Sky” with the loud eagle in the back! 😂
That was a clutch fight during the champion. If Arcanine had used Extreme Speed before you used the last Ancient Power then it would have been the end. Great video.
I definitely would’ve wanted to see the pokémon that evolve into flying types even if you just had to switch train them. Just from my perspective would’ve been fun to see some more diversity
ya i think these challenges should always include the pre evolutions of pokemon that gain the typing, otherwise you would be able to argue that you cannot catch them even as a route encounter you wont use and exp share grind until it has the typing because you still caught what would be an 'invalid' pokemon. its also nice when the challenge allows the use of a starter and Charizard perhaps a little ironically as the most popular Kanto starter is avoided by people so much to say they aren't mainstream i guess. needs some love in the challenge and nuzlocke runs ^^
yeah I and probs most people say pokemon are fine in a monotype if they evolve into the given type but he can play by those rules if he wants to make things more challenging. no charizard, gyarados much later
I always just run through everything with a Bulbasaur before the first gym, and by the time I’m out of Viridian Forest, my Bulbasuar is one rattata or pidgey away from a level up, and then I demolish Brock.
The real answer is Mankey
I don't know if it's against nuzlock rules but you could have lived the Charmander in the daycare until level 34 and then used 2 rare candy to have a charizard in the team.
But great video nonetheless. I loved the best possible team videos and these nuzlocks are so awesome to watch. Great work 👏👏
The Day-care is banned in most nuzlockes, as it would make training your pokémon trivial.
You're videos are very entertaining 😂 thank you!
The fact that Kanto has so many flying types is actually quite fascinating
johto is also a region that would be pretty cool for a flying team

Considering the hoops you jumped through to get that FarFetchd, would it really have been against the rules to switch train your Charmander to get Charizard?
As long as you didn't use that Charmander for offense, it wouldn't break the rules (and you kinda already broke them to get that FarFetchd..)
Just an observation, great run as always Silph
I was looking for this comment. I think sometimes the moral decision should be influenced by the viewers too. We'd all love to have seen charizard, but agree with the switch training. The early game in this was impressive 👏 he also had a garaydos quite early so charizard wouldn't have felt unethical
Ultra hardcore rules ban pokémon that can't be caught with a specific type, even if they gain it by evolution.
