i hate the work when i just want to continue building (especially at the beginning when i don't have wall and ceiling connections and beams yet, with only Mk1 available, or when i am missing just a single quickwire for later/higher MK, at a remote location), but i love it when it adds to the look after i have done some *_clean_* setup :-)
i am also not sure whether i love or hate to use separate power networks with parallel lines (with corresponding switches at a central location) to selectively and remotely power separate sections of the factory ...

OK, hiding the joints inside beams & pillars is great, and the last tip of "mounting" the joints on the machines themselves is next-level. I've only just started playing with using beams for cable management, and now I have more tools on the belt. Excellent!

  • @NiennaNeryam

You can also daisy chain in vanilla with beams. I like to run it just clipping into the machine with the power node sticking out. Removing beams afterwards. But I hadn't thought about turning them around yet.
You can also create longer power poles by stacking them. If you build a temp 7m beam through the first pole you can then build one on top perfectly. Power lines connecting them are invisible. I then place a power node on the bottom of the foundation under the first power pole and connect distant lines through my sandwich layers.

I've just finished building and belting a quartz/future computer factory, and it's the first one I've gone all-out on to keep things clean and beautiful. These tips will definitely help me finish it right when I go back to wire everything. (All of your stuff looks amazing. I can't imagine how many hours it would take to do all of the details like you have.)

I usually use the wallmounts, and place them underneath the flooring. Pull a cable up through the machine so it's not visable, and then add another slate underneath the first to hide everything.

I love the fencing trick to make it look like the machines are daisy chained. That’s a lot of extra time for a feature that should have been vanilla in my opinion but thank you for showing how it can be done!

I place mk 2 wall outlets directly on the sides of foundations and hide them with another foundation, I did this in my factory so I could hover everywhere "who needs to walk". I place them 2 foundations apart and when wiring things you can easily place a pole above the wall outlet and connect them for a clean look or even connect the wall outlets directly to a production device from below.

I hope one day, the hub computers are usuable to see things like smart power switches all across the map. Not only that but overall production managers too. Being able to see at a glance, whats being produced and where. Like say you have a factory making heavy modular frames, I could put it all on one switch, and then see it from the hub. Then I can also see an overview of all the machines on that grid, including overclocks, back logs, insufficient resources and so on. Then all these smart switches can link to the main grid, which feeds back to the hub. Naming the circuits would allow you to see what factory is what, and maybe even clump certain ones together, say a plastic/rubber factory and a turbofuel factory that share a building due to their common resource, you can see how much of the crude is actually being used between both at once.
The thing is, the infrastructure for this is already in the game

Being an electrician and working in industrial manufacturing, I mostly build a sort of scaffolding with beams and openly have the cables, pipes and what not run along it. This kind of stuff tends to be openly visible in the real world, why hide it through clipping? I think having those visible adds a lot to the industrial look.

@@TotalXclipse Absolutely. I'm also trying to keep them out of site as good as possible, what I was referring to was the bit where you were showing that you can hide them inside the beams. I just tend to run them across the beams, usually behind the machines.

Nice tips here. Didn't quite see what I was looking for in my scenario. Maybe putting separate circuits on the underside of the resource bus/road. It'd be nice if we can stack Power Poles. Maybe float a Wall Outlet on top of a power pole... or put railing on top of power pole and many wall outlets along them. But meh, I just don't think it looks right. I'd want to avoid using small pillars, or beams, as they feel too large and clunky. There's just not a game item narrow, tall, with a stacked T on top for multiple power lines. The massive transmission lines you demo were a nice look, but doesn't work for me, far too big, too time consuming. Some good ideas and inspiration from your video.

    • @Warp9pnt9
      @Warp9pnt9 Год назад

Actually, a Power Pole with Modern Railing and Double Wall Outlet looks pretty clean, reasonably easy and fast, too. I think I'll try that. Should be able to get up to 5 cables side by side. Looks pretty sweet, real fast and simple. Inspired once again by Total!

We have a pretty neat thing that we are doing with cables that sort of work like a switch. But only using wall mounts. I would love to share it with you if you would like, just don't really know how to explain it. 🙈 It could be cool for using early game or simply if you don't want to spend so much resources on switches.

When logic inevitably gets added, I really doubt that CS will be so cruel to only let us run one signal per cable. Not when there's a perfectly sound logic cabling system to steal from factorio. Your control rooms with dedicated lines are a neat idea, but they are probably a waste of effort if your goal is to future-proof things.

How do you guys manage to keep production organized as you go up in tiers and need resources from other micro factories? I can easily enough get local resources routed to a supply depot but pulling the right ones and sending to certain other factories for next tier production is where I get lost.
