Death was a garage rock and protopunk demo band formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1971 by the brothers Bobby (bass, vocals), David (guitar), and Dannis (drums) Hackney.
It’s honestly so sad how this band didn’t get much fame at all especially cuz they oaky such a huge part in punk history! They literally invented punk and just like by accident they created it and then like 2 years later it actually got famous then they didn’t get any recognition!!
The Hackney Brothers Dannis and Bobby are my cousins I love their music!!! No matter who came frist second .. or even third!!! Their Music Rocks!!! Rock on cuzzos!!!!
Your cousins are very great !!! I wish they got recognition many years ago that they truly deserve! You can literally hear every type of punk rock in their music. They're truly ingenious!!
There needs to be a LOVE button...because I love these guys. Just watched the documentary...and all I can say is wow. Just wow. What a great story. Much love to the lads of Death (and Rest in Peace Dave...you had the last laugh..and I know you are smiling from beyond!)
Definitely one of my favorite bands. I wish I could have had the privilege to see them perform "You're A Prisoner" back in '75. I was only 2, so I guess I wouldn't have remembered it anyway. That song is SOO good.
when they tore down the house on lilybridge street where Death grew up and started playining they tore down a very important piece on Rock And Roll History
Absolutely my favorite punk rock band nowadays in 2020!!!! I wish I knew who they were when I was a kid around the time punk rock changed my life in my pre teen year's
Saw Death play in DC a few days ago at The Black Cat. They are BETTER than the Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, or even The Ramones. Insane show! These guys ROCK!
@@MarcoA1971 they were out before the Ramones and you can definitely hear how the Ramones were influenced by them lol you can literally hear how they influenced every sub genre of punk rock also.
The bass is criminally low in the mix here. Doesn't sound or look like the playing is bad, makes me wonder why when their studio sound was very balanced and unified at the time.
Same reason why PURE HELL Wasn’t mentioned in punk history ? & DEATH has received TONS MORE attention than PURE HELL has to this day !! For those of you that don’t know which is most of you - Pure Hell was a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ALL-AFRICAN AMERICAN proto-punk & punk rock formed in 1974. Only 3 years after Death formed in 1971. Their musical trajectory also followed Death very closely - They also only released 1 single back in the day & had a posthumous full length album release as well. Check ‘em out !!
basically they were rejected by record companies in the 70s largely on the basis of the name, which was part of an overarching philosophy of the band that they refused to compromise. so, they went unknown. there's a great documentary "a band called death" that tells the story better than I can.
I learned about Death from that cool doc. I would have changed the name in this case.....the music is what really matters and we would have got more great albums!!!
These guys are a testament to the creed of believe in your self, and ...NEVER GIVE UP !!! Free you mind and your ass will follow, The king of heaven is (within !!) 💥😆👍💥
Damn these guys are good - I have yet to find a less than great song by them. I think all the Cee Lo Green / Gnarls Barkley fans would love this song especially. Check out the "Gone daddy gone" version by Gnarls.
HOLO DAIS record label forced them to change their band name and they refused and left. No record label wanted to do with a band named like that at the time
A guitarist?! Seriously, it's kinda in the description, although it just says the band was formed by these three mentioned ...but I guess it's still the same three playing. Update: I just found out that the original guitarist died in 2000 (that's probably why you were asking), according to some comment I read the new guy is called Bobbie Duncan.
I can no longer tell the difference between fantasy and reality thinking all of these years that punk rock was invented by 4 legendary white guys from Queens who constantly sang about sniffing glue. The Mandela Effect is very real.
It's that too. Or was. Chuck Schulinder died a while back from, I believe brain cancer. Kinda ironic seeing he formed a band called "Death" and was one of the pioneers of death metal.
We were cheated all these years of Death songs
It's one of the greatest crimes in rock and roll history that these guys weren't as big as MC5, probably wold have been bigger too.
Wayne said he would of cheered them on

True punk rock turning down record deals just because of the name!!!
That's cuz the state of rockNroll in the 70s was snuffed out by moa/aor disco bs.
@@kookadams85 sad

they started the punk music that we knew today. they did not know it was punk though :) love their music....so much
your family kicks ass

Death was first. Dave knew the world would come for them. The universe has the last word.
For the whole world to see who are the originators 🔥
BLOODY HELL I FOUND A LINK WHERE I COULD COMMENT!!!
WE REMEMBER YOU !! WE STILL LOVE YOU!!
PLEASE KEEP MAKING MUSC!!

Definitely one of my favorite bands. I wish I could have had the privilege to see them perform "You're A Prisoner" back in '75. I was only 2, so I guess I wouldn't have remembered it anyway. That song is SOO good.
Death is awesome. Great musicians with pumping energy. Hell yea
when they tore down the house on lilybridge street where Death grew up and started playining they tore down a very important piece on Rock And Roll History
That sound is so clean

Michael Melinchok yes....
I'll give ya the dead Kennedys and pistols, but love the Ramones.
Would have liked to have seen a tour with Death and Ramones

@@powertothepeople3820 the ramones probably never heard their record

WOW!!!
14 people disliked. they could not believe what they heard and saw. they thought this was a mash up
great band
so goood
Now I can jam to good music on Pandora..sounds like I'm high on the moon
The right producers the right people working with them they could have been big
... sweet....
Bad ass
Great Band! I think their Albums are hard to find nowadays. Why where they never mentioned in Punk History?
Because they got recognition in 2009 after finding this album that's been in their Attic for many years. Watch the documentary.

@@jarrettgardner0628 I love pure hell
Their first 3 albums are now on RUclips at least. Till they get removed for some reason.
Because they refused to change their name. That's why.
This was sweet, they really look like they have fun especially at 2:42 hahaha
So many bands were influenced by death They just didn’t know it until a few years ago when the music was discovered in the attic
La próxima vez más a tope
GOOD
❤DEATH❤ Need more be said?
They need Pat Smear from the Germs during the guitar solos. Still love it.
I welcome Death.
Holy holy..S----! Where have these guys been hiding? I think these guys were the first Punk Rock band?
Yes. In America.
Cool as fuck.
Detroit Punk Rock.
The bass riff is sort of similar to Wishing Well by Free in a way.
nice carpet did you borrow that from Fleetwood mac
What if? Mix old school punk, rock & metal and hip hop into one...what would happen? Magic. Oh! A little reggae, also. All black.
Why aren't they as known as the misfits or bad brains? Or maybe ive just been in the fucking dark

These guys would have been huge if they'd have been based in the UK
Does anyone know why these guys broke up in 1976? The year punk was becoming really popular.

Tight fukin band man. Awesome
Oooooohhhh this sound pretty much better, 70's sound technology was ass
Нда...."Death" is not the same anymore
I can no longer tell the difference between fantasy and reality thinking all of these years that punk rock was invented by 4 legendary white guys from Queens who constantly sang about sniffing glue. The Mandela Effect is very real.
I love Death but let's be honest, his voice kinda sounds like Wesley Willis in this one.
Not at all!
I agree a bit. Wesley Willis Fiasco was really cool!
I thought death was a death metal band
