The pyramid brought back some memories. We took off to Trojan when it was still there on the Columbia. Never had plucked like this before. Cast out boom tangled with the guy below me. He was very patient with me. After the third time he handed me a pyramid and said use this. It digs into the sand and will not roll like the teardrops. That worked great. Went to give it back he said keep it.
Do this alot when the ri ers are high, but I use a side planer. It's not seen very often but very effective with plugs and you can move your plug around a and up and down a seam from shore. Great eps.
@@MatanuskaHIGH Ya I remember when those things came out, I bought one and tried it out a few days later. Hooked up my plug, tossed it out and then the planer. Thought wow that's kind of cool, as I watched it work a few feet from shore, and all of a sudden POW, it blew up and I thought someone shot my side planer!! It was a steelhead, 10lbs. Funny story, but those things work to cover alot of water and I still use it today.
Buck Tales Outdoors same on the salmon river in Otis Oregon, single point hooks only , had to change all my hooks in one tackle box just for that river . Big salmon ,Chinook .
Just a monster tutorial for bank fishing. Had no idea about this tactic and bait wrapping. Stretchy thread? And the reel/rod combo is like a boat trolling set up! WOW...learned a lot . Thanks for an awesome vid.
Wow this brings up old memories from the time I spent in Washington, we'd fish the Cowlets, Tootle and Columbia. We would run a double rig where applicable with a Spin N Glo as the bottom rig with a 3-way further up the leader with a drop leader and pyramid wt off the 3-way, further up we ran another 3-way with a bead to stop the Flatfish that we would clip on after, those were fun times. Thank you great video.
Need to show double rig setup with a spin and glo on the bottom and a plug slid down the main line to a barrel swivel and bead....I usually cast a little more downstream so that plug is pretty close to the spin and glo that is baited...with both close to being inline of each other I feel the fish think the scent is coming from both presentations and will willingly bite both....any comments or other suggestions??
We use 2 pound weights here where I fish I thought we were the only ones that fished this way lol we use a little bell weight on the slider to get it where we want it but the current in this river is super strong. St. Clair river Michigan.
Good video. Constructive criticism: you made a big deal about the importance of the line counter, but at 6:50 you should have zeroed it with us, and talked about the reading again after you “dragged into the seam”. Maybe you could post captions to add this?
That's going to come down to personal preference. I use both. Moderate/fast is what I typically throw in the boat. Rainshadow IMMP76m. Great with spinners n good twitcher also
Silicone beads made for costume jewelry….. so many colors to pick from. Not hard but not too soft…. You can even make them from the same soft plastic as worms etc… two options that let you have unlimited color options 😊
It wouldn't dive. If u put it on a fixed leader to get it down it may be an idea for spring Chinook. For steelhead I would stick with the diving plugs on the sliding leader.
hey justin, i know it's been a year and you've probably mastered this, but i snip all my vibrax trebles & put on siwash, i do 25 at a time for my clients. i've found that using the side snip portion of fencing pliers work awesome for snipping hooks, you get the leverage & the bite. just a suggestion.
Great video, thank you. One question about the weights. Would cannon balls hang up less than pyramid weights? Just thought of hooking up and being stuck on bottom
this is old stuff try a bagley super minnow in flouresent pink with black stripe s it s a crank bait but you can also slowly flat line it bang your on !!!!!!
Dude I was enjoying the planking video of plugs never once thought of doing that but then you busted out the Coon shrimp disappointed you should have just busted out the bobber and bead LOL I bet you 100% Marlin would have told you to put the Coon chimp up get a bead and he hates them
Thank you for, showing that just because the rivers are ripping we don’t need to stay home watching soap operas. I wonder how a BlueFox Spinner would work with that set up..
I think this is illegal under Oregon Regs, although God knows I have a hard time understanding the ODFW regulations. But they do say that for steelhead and salmon: " All weight, if not part of conventional lure, must be attached on the fishing line between the lure and the end of the rod."
They have pretty much castrated us this year on coastal rivers UGH this is getting so old. No fishing from floating devices, single no barb hooks, no bait, no scent come on man!
Thumbs up this video if you wanna see us do more steelhead fishing content!! 👍
What do you think the best way to bank fish for Steelheads?
👍
I like how you explain things very calmly and consistently
Best fishing content on the interwebs
You can glue a small piece of Velcro (loop side) to the bottom of your lure and then saturate it with scent.
Haven't plunked a ton, my buddys old man did it alot and was always really successful doing so, this high water season be good time to do it for sure.

My buddies and I were doing this on the snake river in the 70s. :-).
I'm fishing the snake tonight!
Still works 2020
I hit the snake damn near every other day. Idaho falls!
@@markhugh1783 nice! I'm down past lewiston usually.
Excellent! thoroughly explained!
Yes, Cameron. Nice work…New approach for me and many of us…
I love this. I love plunking and this is something new I can do. Excited for it

William B I was gonna say sideplaner is how I was taught to fish plugs from bank and work seams and holes

William B I like how easily you can work a plug through a hole and even across river which is hard any other way
On the Salmon River in NY we can only use single point hooks , no trebles. Great info and another great option for variable conditions. Thanks

great information, I never thought of plunking, I have always used a side planer board
Damn put me in coach! Great lesson Cam. Thanks a ton.
That was well-explained. And the name of that guide service ("Gone Catching") is genius.
Thank you for this info. I will give this a try.

Great Video! Thanks Cameron.. Learned a lot on this hook up!
Oh hell yes I’m trying this one!!
Another great video. Sometimes it's good to be a bank maggot.
Superb video across the board.
Always learning so much
Good video and Thanks for all the tips. Keep up the good work!
Once bittin; should you wait and just start reeling or grab and set? Gunna be using this technique on Mokelumne River this year. Great vid.
Fanstastic info gonna try this on the river in Oakville next to my place !!
That’s a super cool way to do it 🤘
what is that stretchy threadÉ never seen it, what a great idea
This is just what I needed
Love it! Another great video 👍😉🥃🇺🇸
Thanks for more great info

Thanks good to know!
What do you typically set the drag to? Some say super tight drag and of course some say super soft...
Very much appreciate the technique tips; love how you also emphasize conservation (e.g., using single vs treble hook) of our diminishing stock.
Great video guys! As always. I wanted to know if you guys know if the steelhead are running in bonneville or any rivers around that area?
Planer boards work awesome as well.

I am getting older and this gives me a tactic where I do not need to wade and can bring a chair.
Why not use a side planer and do away with the heavy weight? We do this on the Umpqua and it works awesome.
hey can someone please answer my question:
for casting spinners for salmon and/or steelhead, is it best to use a Fast taper or a Moderate Fast taper?
That's going to come down to personal preference. I use both. Moderate/fast is what I typically throw in the boat. Rainshadow IMMP76m. Great with spinners n good twitcher also
matt nelson ok thx
The Okuma GSP 9’ 8-17 is an amazing spinner and casting plugs rod.
i use alot of maglips they work great
Silicone beads made for costume jewelry….. so many colors to pick from. Not hard but not too soft…. You can even make them from the same soft plastic as worms etc… two options that let you have unlimited color options 😊
Can you do cut plugs the same way?
Could you use a brads Super Bait mini/3.5 cut plug?
It wouldn't dive. If u put it on a fixed leader to get it down it may be an idea for spring Chinook. For steelhead I would stick with the diving plugs on the sliding leader.
What size hook do you use on the maglip's?
Can you do a video for setting up a pole
Great video! How do change from trebles to singles on those lures?
Snip the trebles off with pliers then take a siwash hook and pinch the eye shut
Justin or use a split ring and just a regular single hook
Josh, thank you for getting back to me about this, I’ll have to change mine out

@@8barbies779 thanks man!! I appreciate that!!
Use the tiny hair rubber bands to meat wrap her baits ,it works way better than stretchy thread ,and they come in multicolors.
Great video, thank you. One question about the weights. Would cannon balls hang up less than pyramid weights? Just thought of hooking up and being stuck on bottom
The use of pyramid weights is so they sit still. Oppose to rolling around and possibly tangling up!
as always nice video ..
You should run for President
Use a lure Jenson side planer and pop it in a rod holder, its easy.
How about a tutorial how to catch steelhead casting plugs not plunking them.
Cameron, what are your thoughts on casting plugs?
Which river is this ooo
this is old stuff try a bagley super minnow in flouresent pink with black stripe s it s a crank bait but you can also slowly flat line it bang your on !!!!!!
Why is the bead chain running to the pyramid?( It is anchored). Bead chain should go on plug line.
Bro can I use this shrimp on a hook.
Are wildlings off-limits just during the spawn?
All wild steelhead except a few rivers
You can catch and release just not kill them.
So, are they ever legal to take home for food?
@@georgepetzen4686 not wild fish there is a hand full of rivers you can keep 1 from
Can I just nibble around the edges?
First to comment again, love you guys

I pove throwin out some plugs wrapped up
As good as the name brand for a third the price. Realistic movement and tails!

After watching your steelhead bank fishing plugs in rivers, why don't you use a side planer board instead of the large weight?
“Interweb” 🤣😂🤣

Cam, those XXXXL gloves aren't helping much are they? Hahahahaha
"easy way to catch steelhead..."
Still had plug that’s a flat fish boy
Do you ever fish??
So you’re in the fish tortury
