She specifically addresses the rise of modern spiritualism and had direct experience with this satanic phenomenon. Chapters entitled "Modern Revivals" and "Spiritualism" are particularly insightful.

Interesting I've also met liberal Christains. I'm a Catholic who tends to avoid getting too political. I'm pro life but also for helping the poor. Supporting good causes. Caring for the environment. But I feel ideally a conservative political government is best and will make our country run the most efficiently. I also sometimes find myself at odds in many circles.

@endauthority Most of those concepts aren't rooted just in philosophy. Besides, philosophy is rooted in theology. Part of my point was that these ideas and systems of thought were all being discussed by the same people and had major impact on American society (see: Great Awakenings). Thomas Paine, for example, discussed a wide variety of those ideas. Paine was a deist, but he discussed atheism/agnosticism and mythicism along with much else.

If you follow philosophy and theology back to the beginning of Western history, you will find that they aren't so distinct early on. They only later became considered as distinct later on. Much of theology makes philosophical arguments and much of philosophy considers issues of theology.

But my initial point is that far right conservative Christians tend to hate the idea of magic, yet Christianity still deals with a sort of magic, but instead they just call it “miracles” and the “Devine”. Believing that you can live forever is pretty much believing in magic in my opinion
