Hello Tom. Oh yes, I have come to really love the Mamey fruit! Initially, the texture had put me off, but I gave the fruit another chance and it began to grow on me! Now, I simply adore the fruit and it seems I cannot get enough of it! The very LARGE fruit you gave me last weekend is very good. Allowed it to ripen a couple days, then peeled it and diced it and placed in the fridge overnight! Deliriously Delicious. Now after watching this video, you have piqued my interest in the other preparations such as the Ice Cream, Icicle and the Shake! This was a very delicious video! Thanks Tom!!!

La Michoacán’s is the best ice cream shop. They’re the only place that makes ice cream that doesn’t taste liek the ice cream you get everywhere else. Mexican ice cream. I found out about Mamey because of their ice cream
yes! and their ice cream tastes like the flavor it supposed to be. The mamey ice cream is like biting into a mamey!

hahahaha. I have it for breakfast all the time 🤣. but yeah it's really good. There's another variety of mamey called Key West that ripens around July and to me that one tastes even better.
I'm just N of Tampa an hour or so, wonder if I can find it up here??

Don, as fruit go it's on the more expensive side but so delicious. and you get a lot for the money. the fruit in this vid were on the small side. a lot of mamey you'll see 2x or 3x the size of these ones.

I have to try a batido de mamey next time I’m down there in homestead. And yes you’re right Michoacán is a state in western Mexico, it’s also the largest producer of avocados in Mexico.

Looks like a form of papaya. How does it compare in taste???
the pulp looks similar but mamey's texture is much creamier. The flavors are not very similar. The papaya has that very powerful strong flavor and aftertaste. Mamey is much smoother like pudding.
I'd get into a lot of trouble ordering one. It's too close to one of the few Spanish words I actually know. 😊😊

In india and most part of south east Asia sapote is mostly eaten in fruit form only directly cutting and scooping only and rarely as shakes or popsicles

@@SleepyLizard absolutely it’s delicious having directly the fruit also gives the salty and tangy aftertaste which I like , in fact majority in india prefer consuming fruit in natural form even the Citrus fruits as well.
Yes the mango is consumed in all forms and all stages starting from raw to the final fully ripened state there are around 1500 varieties in in India alone 🤓🤓🤓

Is the taste similar to Chico fruit?
Hi Atty, you probably saw in the vid I had 3 varieties of Chico on the table because Chico (sapodilla) is related to Mamey but I find the flavor and texture to be very different. I never got around to talking about the Chico though.
The skin and shape look similar but the texture of the mamey is creamy and smooth whereas Chico has more of a gritty texture. Also, Chico has that brown sugar and cinnamon flavor but mamey is much more tropical and fruity.
What else is in the mamey popsicle? Just water and mamey?
Gosh I don't know. Probably some sugar.
